“Jules! You’re back!” Emmanuel ran toward him, the bell on his tall, curved hat jingling the entire way. He wrapped his long, gangly arms around Jules, hugging him tightly. “When did you get back? I thought you were gone for three months?”

Jules grimaced. “Yeah, about that…I guess you could say I’ve gone rogue.”

Emmanuel furrowed his brow and cocked his head. “What?”

“I promise to fill you in later, but I don’t have a lot of time. Where’s the Big Guy?”

His friend stood with his hand on his hip and eyed him warily. “He’s at the house. I think he’s reading letters.”

Jules headed that way, Emmanuel falling into step next to him. A light snow began falling and Jules pulled his coat closer to his body.

“How did you get here?”

“Stole the only sleigh on the island. Caleb’s hiding it in the stable for me.”

“Bet he was glad to see you.”
