Chapter 4 - Incident, Started!

It was a chilling night. The wind howled. Bic was patroling in the corridors, to check whether the children using the rooms were sleeping or not. She was still upset about what happening this morning but she laughs it off as some children prank. She walks to the nearby room that she hasn't checked yet. She gently open the door, and was shocked by what she's seen.

The light has been turned off, but with the help of the moon, she can see what's inside. All the children in the room have fallen asleep in their bed, dreaming whatever they dream about. But what surprised her was the thing that hanging in front of her sight. It was a kitchen knife, hanging in the air.

"Everyone! Wake up! Quick, go outside!" Bic shouted! She wanted to scream and run but she can't do that. She really cares about the children here, so she wants them to be helped first.

"Ma'am... five more minutes..." Said the first child.

"Yeah, yeah! We're still tired..." Said another child.

"You guys, the ma'am said wake up so wake up! It must be something important! The building could be on fire or something!" Said a smart, delusional, and righteous child.

"What?! The building is on fire? Where?" Shouted the first child, waking up all the occupants of the room. They all looked around in panic but then their eyes were all focused on one thing, the flying knife. The flying knife then started moving like crazy and then stopped when it pointed at the door. The room suddenly fell silent, until that one child starts to scream, of course.

"AAAAAAAHHHHH!"

"KYAAAAA!!!"

"MAMA!"

"MY ANCESTOR!"

They all trying to run out of the room. But someone intercepts them.

"But hey guys, what if it's not a ghost? It could be some sort of quirk or something like that" Said the smart, delusional, and righteous child while pushing his glasses upward, reflecting some moonlight.

"Don't block the door, you idiot!" Someone pushed him out and kept running, followed by others. Some who had a useful quirk, use their quirk to move faster.

"Wait! D- Don't leave me alone!" He quickly got up and followed them while using his quirk, shooting out a laser from his butt.

Bic has already long gone, far from the room by the time they did that. What about the children? She thought that she has already done enough for them. If they don't live to see tomorrow, she believes it's their destiny, she can't change destiny.

The one who held the flying knife is in fact, Mai. She uses her new ability to cover herself with unconsciousness except for the knife in her hand, making her presence cannot be noticed by other beings unless she allows it, even while standing in plain view. She looked at the others who were running away from her.

'I'm sorry, everyone... Fufufu~'

And just like that, a mark was made.

(Hours before the incident happened)

After Mai was done doing the gacha, she lies down on her bed. She's tired, not physically but mentally. As all this crap was happening in a single day, of course, she is. She closed her eyes, trying to sleep. But because of her exhilaration of getting the five-stars, she can't sleep.

'Urgh! I'll just close my eyes and let them rest, then' The silence is calming, but even then, she didn't like to waste time so she tried to think of something. She then remembered a thing that still made her curious.

'Ai-chan~, there's something I want to ask, how did I become expressionless. Is it a drawback of my Touhou ability, Manipulation of Emotion? If so, what about the new ability that I just got? Will I be forgotten? Or maybe doing something unconsciously?' She asked the system.

[Ehem! Let me explain. Yes, the host becomes emotionless is the drawback of your first Touhou ability. But host didn't need to worry. That's only happened because you didn't get it from gacha. If you got an ability from the gacha, it has no drawback. So, if host wants to remove your expressionless state, you just need to pull out the five-stars character, Hata no Kokoro from the gacha!]

'Nope~ I didn't even want it, just curious.' She said to the system. 'So that's how it is...'

There is also another topic that made her curious. It was the incident point. 'Can be gained by making or solving an incident... huh?' She thought it would be better to save up the points little by little from now on, so she started thinking about what she could do with her ability to earn them.

'The simplest one is to catch criminals in action.' Thought Mai. But she just didn't have the mood to do that right now. She opens her eyes and looks at the ceiling. "Is there anything else I can do?" She softly said.

And then, an idea came to her. "What if..." An imaginary grin (can't) be seen on her face. She began to design her plan. From what she knew, she could also take her revenge while doing that. All she had to do now was wait for the nighttime to come and then do what she had planned. She then fell asleep without her knowing it.

Her life for the rest of the day is quite plain. After she got up from her nap, it already afternoon, so she quickly goes down to the first floor to get her lunch. She had nothing to do after that so she planned to just go to her room and do an experiment with her abilities. But before that, she borrowed(steal) a knife from the kitchen. The other kids were studying with the caretakers, as for her, she was already called a genius before she even regained her memory. Another reason why other kids hate her.

The night has come. After dinner, Mai began to carry out her plans. After she came to her bedroom, she began to use her new ability, Manipulation of Unconcious Mind. She already came out with an idea about how to use it after her experimental session in the afternoon.

Koishi's presence cannot be noticed by others because her actions are controlled entirely by her unconscious. But Mai refused to do anything unconsciously, she wanted complete control over what she did. So she needed another way to hide her presence. She's different from Koishi, she's still aware of herself. It's good that there's no drawback in acquiring this ability.

Mai stands in front of a mirror. She focused her mind to pull out a part of her own unconsciousness from inside her body. After she does that, she began to change its form into that of an aura and covered herself with it, of course, her clothes too. She could still see herself just fine, but when she looked in the mirror, no one was there. It's a little bit scary.

Though there is still a bit of a flaw when she's in this mode, which is that it's a little more difficult to do things unconsciously, such as sleeping. Her instincts were also reduced. But her presence was completely lost and she became invisible. Even when she was moving fast, there was no sound or even a flow of air for others to feel.

She then picks up the knife she borrowed(stole) from the kitchen. The reflection in the mirror only showed a floating knife. It shines brightly.

'Let's do this!' Thought Mai excitedly.
