Riku and Oliver pt.1

"Excuse me, sir, would you lay your suitcase on the counter please, we would like to check." Riku frowned.

"What's wrong with my suitcase?"

"Riku, riku, it's normal, just let them have a look", his father explained quickly and took his son aside.

"I told you that they might want to look at it. It is their job, they just wanna make sure no one takes something dangerous into the airplane."

"I wouldn't do that."

"No I know that, but they don't."

"Oh okay."

"You'd know that if you've listened to me once or twice."

Riku rolled his eyes on his fathers comment.

Since his parents constantly fought, he always choose his mothers side. But on one thing his parents agreed: Riku had to get out of the country. He spent all of his time, either in the garden, the woods or his room.

Just definitely not around actual people. His mom decided, that that was supposed to change.

He was always climbing trees, singing to the water creatures of the small lake, in the middle of his most secret hiding place, he found years ago. Sometimes he even went camping on his own. Especially when his dad was home from his business trips. Then his parents would fight the most.

What would they fight about? That was a good question.

Hell, Riku wondered how his mom ever fell in love with such a dickhead. He used to be the most cruel playboy in school, his mother used to tell him. As she studied a few years abroad, for college, she met him again, because he was going to the same college and entered similar courses.

His mom always told him, about how his dad totally transformed into this really respectful handsome young man and that they fell in love.

Incredible. Riku shook his head. Well, his dad had been having a lot of affairs and one-night stands, whenever he was on a business trip. And when he came back home to America, where Riku's mom moved into a small house with him, she was furious.

And this, is why love is overrated.

He asked her so many times, why they wouldn't get a divorce. His mom just said that it was adult stuff and too complicated. She also said, it wasn't his position to think about this kind of stuff.

It wasn't meant for him to struggle with it, the kid that he was, she always said.

Did he say that he recently aged 23? He hated how his mom thought, she had to protect him from everything. He was clearly old enough to, at least, be involved.

On the other hand, at least he had a mom who gave her best taking care of him.

Anyways. So that was the reason he and his father weren't on the best terms. And his mother stayed in America, while Riku had to accompany his dad on his trip. To meet these disgusting new people and these disgusting new friends, he wouldn't need anyway.

His mom thought it would be good for him to socially bond with someone. Maybe even find a new girl, he could start building a relationship with.

His parents did never understand that he wasn't interested in girls.

He didn't know if he was even interested in anything or anyone, but definitely not girls.

For some people, connections would be good, she used to say.

Riku didn't necessarily disagree with her on that.

But he himself wasn't a social person, he didn't like new situations, and he really hated big cities. Bristol for example. Where this plane was going to fly to.

And the most worst part about this flight was: his dad's seat number was 43.

And his was 42.

So they would sit next to each other.

During this whole flight.

Was there anything that was worse than spending 13 hours right next to someone who you deeply disliked?

No, Riku noticed, just half an hour later. And the airplane wasn't even in the air yet. His father just wouldn't stop lecturing him.

But as Riku put his old headphones on and pressed 'play' on the little thing, with which he normally listened to his cassettes, he had with him (he always had it in his pocket, a few cassettes extra if he had a lot of time), his dad took it from him and pulled his headphones off.

"You're so disrespectful, son."

Those words almost made him snap. He was able to get out a quick "sorry", before he mentally cursed his dad.

"Hey, um, hi, excuse me, do you think, it might be possible for one of you to switch seats with my ex-girlfriend?", a friendly young man interrupted with his strong british accent. Riku looked at his dad, who didn't respond.

"That would be very kind, we are gonna go crazy if we have to spent this long flight next to each other", he continued, almost begging.

Riku jumped out of his seat, grabbed all his little things and said: "No problem at all, this seat is free." He avoided his fathers gaze on purpose, as he disappeared with the other man to the opposite side of the plane, somewhere in the back.

"Right over there", the man said to a woman with black high-heels and a way too short dress. Disgusting, Riku thought. She waved at them sarcastically and left. Just her attitude combined with her look could make Riku vomit.

Finally the man turned to him. "Do you want to sit at the window or the hallway?"

Riku didn't say anything. Suddenly he felt shy and a little bit overwhelmed.

"It's okay if you want to sit at the window, I don't mind", the man said chuckling.

"I'm Oliver Bailey by the way."

"Riku Avens."

Oliver nodded friendly.

He leaned forward and whispered into Riku's ear "We should really sit down now, before the plane is going off."

Riku's face gained a bit of color and he shoved himself through the seats and let himself plop down on the seat at the window.

Oliver sat down next to him.

The pilot made his speech, that the plane was going to take off and asked everyone to put their seatbelts on.

Just now, Riku saw the seatbelts that were hanging off the seats.

Sure he had been in a car before, but how do you use seatbelts in an airplane?

They looked totally different!

"Wait, lemme get that for you", Oliver said and reached over Riku's body to connect the one side of the seatbelt to the other.

Riku couldn't help but notice the black nail polish.

"Thanks", he answered and the color on his face returned.

"First time on a plane?"

Riku nodded.

"Nervous?"

He nodded again.

Yes, he was very nervous. And part of that was because it was his first time on a plane.

Other part of it, was because of this Oliver guy next to him. He really wasn't bad looking.

His dark blonde hair looked funny how it was put into a small bun. It probably wasn't reaching his shoulders yet.

He wore light blue ripped jeans with a visible dark brown belt and had his black shirt tucked in, the first few centimeters unbuttoned, to give a little peak of his chest.

His skin was slightly tanned but not too much.

His eyes were a mix of dark blue and green and- and they were looking right at him!

"Didn't your parents teach you that it's rude to stare?", he said amused.

"Sorry."

Huh, Oliver thought. He was prepared for denial but instead this Riku straight up admitted that he had been staring. Such an honest guy.

"So, why are you flying to Great Britain?"

"Why would you care?"

Oliver raised an eyebrow in surprise.

Okay maybe that was a bit harsh, Riku thought by the look the other guy gave him.

"You're incredibly rude for your good looks, did anyone ever tell you that?"

"My dad does all the time. But he forgets the part where I'm good looking", Riku joked.

"Shame. Is that older man there your dad?", Oliver asked curiously.

"Yes."

Riku looked over the seats to find his dad. He saw him flirting with this woman aka Oliver's girlfriend.

"Your girlfriend is flirting with my dad."

"Ex-girlfriend."

"Right. Sorry."

"And what do you care? Isn't your dad responsible for himself?"

"Well, yes that's the problem."

Olivers face showed obvious confusion.

"He's actually dating my mom. But he seems to forget about that, whenever he is on his new work trip", Riku explained.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know."

"It's okay."

"What an asshole", Oliver said.

Riku smiled.

"Agreed."

"Referring to your question, why I'm on the way to Great Britain..", Riku then said.

"Yes?", Oliver answered, curiously waiting for the response.

"My mom told me, I should escort my father here, so I could make new friends. They think, I spent too much time alone in the nature."

"Well, that's nice though right? When I was younger, my parents always told me I should spent more time outside, in the nature. And making friends is actually not that bad believe me."

"Nah, I'd rather be on my own. Also, maybe my mother wants me to keep an eye on my dad. I know it hurts her to see him drifting further and further away from us."

Oliver didn't say anything to that.

"Soo, ex-girlfriend huh?"

Oliver nodded.

"Who betrayed who?"

"It wasn't like that."

"Sure."

"Why are you even asking this?"

"I told you about my parents, wouldn't it be fair if I'd have some information about you too?"

"I guess."

Riku waited for a conversation but Oliver didn't even showed signs thats he'd say anything anytime soon.

"Okay, let's start with some easy questions then. How old are you?", Riku said.

"24", Oliver answered.

Riku smiled. "I'm 23."

"Why are you flying to Great Britain?"

"England is my home country. I was just in America because I wanted to learn new art styles", Oliver said.

"Art styles?"

"I'm a tattoo artist. Well kinda, I am modeling too but not that much", the older narrated.

"Siblings?", Riku continued.

"Half-brother. You?"

Riku shook his head.

They talked like this until the plane made really loud noises and Riku put his hands on his ears.

And as it roughly started moving and got ready to take off, the nervousness kicked back in as well.

"You okay?", Oliver asked as he saw how the younger had his nails rammed into the material of the seat.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm- uh- is this how it's supposed to be??"

"Yes. If you want to calm down, I got something for you", Oliver said and searched his pocket. Slowly he showed his hand with a little white pill on it.

"What is this?"

"What do you think?"

"Hell no, get that thing away from me."

The older looked at him puzzled.

"I-it helps though.."

"It doesn't help. It's poison, put it back in your pocket."

"O-okay. Sure", Oliver said.

This was new. Interesting.

So he slipped it back into the pocket of his pants.
