Darkness

He slowly picked up the ring, just he took the ring between his fingers, strange thoughts came to his head. He could hear distant whispers that spoke of many things, they spoke of desires, they spoke of pleasure and power.

Arthas felt quite strange as he inspected the ring with all his focus, he didn't notice his sword shining with sinister blue light as if it were very hungry.

'Why bother with all these efforts? you could easily raise the dead and conquer the world. With each soul, you shall grow stronger and become unbeatable eventually.'

'Why put yourself through so much trouble and make a kingdom prosper? So that you one day use it to find a way to travel to other worlds? How foolish... you could have done as such decades ago if you had no chains made of morals restricting you. You are WEAK!'

'Join me, we shall conquer middle-earth, you shall become a God, one that stands above the Valar and I shall become the king of Arda. You will have achieved your desire and I will have mine. If we unite, none can stand before us!'

'I Sauron promise you that we will emerge victories over the forces of light. Darkness shall reign...'

Came the whispers from the ring. Sauron's spirit spoke directly to his mind. 'Return the Ring to Mordor, to me and I shall aid you in your desire. King of Lordaeron. If you become a god above the Valar you can easily traverse the great void and find other worlds...'

A smile crept onto Arthas's face, 'Amusing... Sauron, you are known as a betrayer and a master of tricks; do you honestly believe I would be fooled? You have fooled other kings and turned them into the Nazgul...'.

The whisper carried malice and anger, 'You don't get to say as such, you who is a supreme necromancer and wield the darkest sword in this land. I accept my darkness as taught to me by the great lord Morgoth, I wield it to achieve my desire. You who is weak and rejects his darkness does not deserve to have such power...'.

The blue eyes of Arthas began shining in a sinister icy light, 'I can destroy this ring right now.'. Sauron's whisper had a mocking tone, 'Then do so and be swallowed in the abyss of my Darkness as I shall devour you through the Sword and doom the world in the eternal winter of my will.'.

Arthas's face grew cold and the icy light intensified, Frostmourne released a blue gas-like substance that made the temperature of the room drop significantly. A maddening hunger assaulted Arthas.

Have you ever been to a desert? Imagine walking for days in a hot desert without food and water. And, suddenly find yourself in front of the greatest feast the world has to offer. How would you feel when you gaze at the cold and clear water and the decorated food. the smell of delicious food driving your mind to madness as your stomach hungers with such intensity that drives any rational thought out of your mind.

Such hunger suddenly assaulted him compelled by Frostmourne. The feast was the Ring as he felt the desire to shatter it under the evil blade of his sword. The ring fell out of his hand as he fell and held his head, he let out a low cry of pain as the insatiable hunger assaulted him. A terrible pressure began being emitted from him, his eyes getting an icy blue halo that left gas-like shining marks in the air that slowly vanished as he shook his head.

The ring on his fingers began turning hot as cracks appeared on its surface, smoke rising from his finger that the ring was on showing how hot the ring was, it burnt his skin. Gandalf hurriedly entered the room and widened his eyes as he saw Arthas in such a state.

Ysildea who was dealing with a bunch of papers with a frown on her face suddenly stood up with wide eyes stunning the nearby Eiliandir who asked with concern, "Wha..." before the elf could continue, he shut up under her stare. A magical aura surrounded her as the runes in her eyes began moving mysteriously, she began slowly chanting something.

As Gandalf was wondering what was going on, the ring on Arthas's hand began shining a blinding white color; however, the cracks increased. Arthas suddenly stopped and stood deathly still with eyes closed.

He slowly and calmly opened his eyes with an expressionless face, the were gently shining with the same icy blue color and halo that left trails behind in the air as he moved. His eyes had no emotion, Gandalf felt as if he was staring at nothingness itself; The Aura that Arthas emitted was so Dark that he couldn't even fathom. Gandalf stepped back as terror gripped his heart.

Arthas began murmuring with no emotion, the voice coming more from Frostmourne than his mouth as if the sword spoke through his body, "It is time you remember... the deal was made and the payment is due.". The Ring on his hand suddenly exploded and Arthas collapsed on the ground for a brief time and Frostmourne turned to normal.

Just as Gandalf wanted to sigh in relief seeing the situation pass, Arthas opened his eyes and Gandalf put up his guard. This time, however, they were not shining and no Dark aura was being emitted. He sighed and crouched near Arthas, his eyes filled with concern. "Are you well? What was that?!"

Arthas had a frown, his head ached as if he had hit it on a rock a dozen times; "I don't know, my head is cloudy but I remember holding the Ring..." Realization dawned on Gandalf, "I see, I was foolish to leave you with it alone especially since you to deal with that. Come, rest here...".

Arthas took Gandalf's hand as the old wizard helped him to sit on a couch nearby and he began to slowly calm down. Frodo suddenly entered the room and Gandalf began having a discussion with the Hobbit which was ignored by Arthas. His head slowly became clear but as time passed, his eyes widened in disbelief.

He remembered some memories of a past life... They were not of earth.

He remembered endless agony enough to drive men with unbreakable willpower to insanity, he remembered torment the likes of which even gods were afraid of; So much misery and pain, a literal hell made personally for him.

He remembered more and more as his eyes grew wider and wider and when all the memories he had acquired were remembered, only a word escaped his mouth in a murmur entailing unimaginable things. "Void Lord..."

Gandalf's suspicions that had been put aside over the years returned as he gazed at his old friend with worry. 'What was that darkness... and with the appearance of the one Ring at this time, the future holds a great war...'

------

The One Ring is fine, it was the ring on his finger that was destroyed. (The one to resist corruption.)
