Chapter 174: Vivi's ice explained.

"What's wrong, Robin?" Asked Luffy.

"This looks like ice but…is not cold at all. Is actually a bit warm." Explained Robin.

"Let me check!" Nami was the next one to place a hand on the ice and was as surprised as Robin.

"How is that possible?"

The rest of the crew also wanted to feel the warm ice.

Vivi wondered for a moment how to explain this to them as science was not as advanced in this world when it came to physics.

"There are more than one ways to create ice. Let's see how I explain this…"

She took a few steps back and created a big sphere of water.

"By lowering the temperature, you can turn this water into ice, as Aokiji does. But that is an aspect of water control that I have no access to since it belongs to someone else. However, what I can do is compress this water into a smaller form."

"How does compressing the water turn it into ice?" Usopp tried to understand.

"Let's say you take a piece of paper. Is bendable and easy to break. But if you press it together into a ball it becomes more resistant and if you squeeze it as hard as you can to make it into a very small ball that is even harder, right?"

Seeing that they nodded and seemed to understand, she continued.

"If you could keep making it smaller and smaller… eventually, this tiny ball of paper could become as hard as iron."

Robin opened her eyes wide. She had already realized how her ability worked by the looks of it.

"I recently had an encounter with Smoker and he had learned to do something similar. He could compress his smoke into a solid form. It doesn't matter what material it is and it doesn't matter if it was a liquid or gas to begin with. If you compress something enough, it will become solid and the harder you compress it, the stronger it will become."

"And when water turns solid, it becomes ice…" Said Sanji.

Vivi then compressed the big sphere of water floating next to her into a ball of ice the size of a basketball to finish the demonstration.

"And because you didn't use a low temperature to create it, it remains warm." Added Nami.

"That means that this ice will not melt, right?" Usopp concluded.

Vivi shrugged. "If the temperature surpasses my ability to keep it together, it will melt. But at least it should be able to withstand an extremely high temperature without losing its shape."

"And what can you do with this ice? can you change its shape too?" Asked Robin.

Vivi nodded. The ice started to morph and change.

"I can give it any shape I want. Even to the point of creating some complex tools, as long I can make a detailed mental picture. My enhanced memory helps with that."

The ball of ice turned into a very detailed gun.

"Thats a handgun!, I have seen some designs from the Marines" Exclaimed Usopp.

This type of weapon was somewhat new and the only models available are flintlocks. But the one that Vivi had created was a modern gun based on a semi-automatic pistol.

"But that one seems different than the ones I have seen…" Usopp finished saying.

She held the weapon in her hand.

"It is fully functional too. It fires ice bullets that are encased inside and released them purely by pressure created by my control abilities. There is no gunpowder used in the process, so they make very little noise."

Vivi aimed the gun at one of the cups on the table and shot. The gun made a muffled noise as a small bullet came out and pierced the cup without breaking it, leaving a hole in it.

"Hey, don't start shooting that thing inside the ship!" Complained Franky.

"Wow, it didn't even break the cup!" Luffy lifted it as liquid keep pooing from the hole.

There was something that she did not tell her crew and something that she never planned to share as it would rise too many questions.

After fusing her two fruits into one, creating her 'Divine zoan', some of her mental abilities received a significant upgrade, especially her memory.

When the Old Hag told her to make use of her 'otherworldy knowledge' she thought it was a stupid suggestion since most of her knowledge was useless here. Things like making junk food or how riding public transportation or use modern gadgets that didn't exist in this world.

However that all changed after gaining full access to her memories. All of them, until the last detail. She was suddenly able to remember everything that she has seen, hear, touched, or smelled during her entire life.

Every meal she ate, every conversation she ever had, every book she read.

Every single piece of information that entered her brain, no matter how little or insignificant, was all there.

And there was a surprising amount of information that was useful to her now. After having a scary encounter in her dangerous neighborhood, she thought for a time about getting a gun but knew nothing about them so she watched a lot of videos and read some books. In the end, she decided against it and forgot about everything she learn during that time.

But everything was still there now. Every detail, every weapon design she saw, even if it was only for a second was there.

An encyclopedic library of knowledge at her fingertips and the medium to give it life.

That was something she was not willing to reveal to her crew, no matter how close they got. They would never understand and would never look at her the same way.

While everyone was discussing the current events. Someone else entered the room. Which was strange as the entire crew was currently in the dining room.

The clown-looking man walked to the table a sat down before grabbing his head and letting out a grunt.

"Man…what a hangover…so, what's for breakfast?"

Buggy asked, leaving the room in complete silence.
