Chapter 111

"Damn it!"

Garling's eyes contracted, a clear expression of surprise etched across his face.

"Ka Ka Ka."

The saber in his hand gradually began to bend. At this rate, it wouldn't be long before it shattered completely.

Not only was he risking the losing grip on the saber due to poor handling, but Carnes' sword was also aiming for a direct hit at him.

In that instant, Garling made up his mind.

His figure darted swiftly; his hands ready to release their hold on the Saber.

But then, suddenly.

Carnes' sword attack was too fierce, exceeding Garling's expectations entirely.

"Bang!"

"Boom!"

In an instant, the saber was sent flying, yet fortunately, Garling had already maneuvered his body out of the sword's striking range, evading the attack.

Otherwise, as he had anticipated earlier, Carnes' sword would have struck him directly.

"Boom!!!"

Garling tumbled to the ground, rolling continuously. Swiftly, he rose to his feet and dashed toward where the saber had fallen. For a brief moment, he felt an odd numbness in his hand, the sensation momentarily alien.

"Could this guy really... rely on a Devil Fruit to attain such terrifying power?" Garling mumbled in secret.

Garling suddenly comprehended that his understanding of Carnes that had stemmed from their time in the God's Valley had been completely wrong.

But the Carnes he confronted today was an entirely different entity from the Carnes he had known back then.

"Shua!!!"

Retrieving his weapon with a fluid motion, Garling prepared to rejoin the fray. Yet, as he readied himself for battle once more, he found his attention drawn to an unexpected sight.

A figure with large black wings and an enigmatic face floated towards Carnes' side.

"Captain..." Ulquiorra appeared by Carnes' side and spoke softly.

After enduring several battles besieged by numerous opponents, Carnes could feel the weight of physical exhaustion.

"Huh~" Carnes exhaled a deep breath, his gaze sweeping over the God's Knight members below. His voice rang out with a composed demeanor.

"I know, what you're trying to say."

"Allow me to handle this, Captain. I'll finish these ants as quickly as I can," said Ulquiorra.

However, Carnes shook his head slightly, affirming that this battle was meant for him, and he could handle it on his own.

Yet, if he couldn't personally kill the enemy with his own hand, then he will lose the meaning of being here at this moment.

It would undermine the significance of his presence in this very moment.

"My purpose isn't just to kill them, but to be the one to end them with my own hands. I personally want to deliver the final blow," said Carnes.

As his gaze fell upon the lifeless body of Whitebeard, Carnes shifted his attention to the red-haired Shanks and his crew, and then to the formidable figures of the God's Knights.

These individuals who emerged in the final moments and have maintained their peak strength... they're an exceptionally troublesome bunch!

With this thought in mind, Carnes cast a sidelong glance at the state of his own crew.

From the corner of his eye, he took in the sight of fallen Gale Emperor's Pirates members strewn across the battlefield.

Even those who were still capable of fighting now bore the marks of a chaotic and brutal conflict.

Observing this scene, Carnes couldn't help but fall into a momentary silence, and he spoke calmly.

"Now is not the time to embrace death.

Death isn't an option for our crew members right now."

Given the current condition of the crew, prolonging the battle could result in the junior and intermediate level members being utterly decimated.

Only Commanders will come out of this battle unscathed.

Though these adversaries before Carnes deserved to meet their demise today, but they are still in their peak strength due to their less energy consumption in battle.

Also, for Carens the powerful state of the Sage of Six Paths cannot be sustained indefinitely. He must conserve his strength, lest he would find himself in a disadvantageous position later on.

Furthermore...

The God's Knight members are here, and it's possible that the World Government's more reinforcements are also on way.

Should more members of God's Knights arrive early, this situation can turn ugly for his crew especially low-level members.

"Prepare to retreat," Carnes uttered softly.

"At the very least, his life has to come to an end."

Ulquiorra nodded, and with a swift whoosh, he vanished into thin air.

Subsequently, Carnes surveyed his surroundings, eventually focusing his gaze upon Garling.

"Before I depart, I shall bestow you with a gift." he announced.

Garling furrowed his brow upon hearing these words, hastily closing the distance between him and Carnes, gripping his saber tightly.

Carnes brought his hands together and muttered softly,

"Planetary Devastation!"

As Carnes words fell, the entire Marineford began to shake violently.

Garling, who had been charging recklessly, suddenly came to a halt.

"What's happening?" he demanded, his eyes narrowing as he scanned his surroundings.

In that moment, Marineford began to crumble, swept up by an immense force of suction that seized hold of anything and everything—be it a person, a corpse, debris or any object– with an overpowering gravitational pull.

"Beckman," Shanks yelled.
