Chapter 37: Calm Before the Storm
The next morning when the sun rose Kai and Sabo saw Ace of. "Bye Ace! Make sure to kick Teach's ass!" Kai said as he waved to Ace who was walking away. "Next time you see Yamato, make a move. I want a sister-in-law!" Sabo shouted. "I don't wanna hear that from you Sabo! Not until you tell Koala how you feel!" Ace shouted back as he left.
Kai turned to Sabo. "Let's get you a mask too! Then we can be mask buddies and you could help out without exposing yourself!" Sabo agreed and they went to buy a mask. Sabo got a mask that only covered his eyes and had a fox-like look to it. It was white and red. Kai nodded at his choice in respect it looked good and kept the whole noble air Sabo's outfits had around them. "You should go meet up with your teammates, they are probably worried about you. I'll see you later at the casino." Kai told Sabo. The two then parted ways as Sabo went to his team and Kai made his way toward the rainbase.
Kai walked into the casino. He still hadn't slept yet but he wasn't tired. After gaining superhuman strength and stamina what's one all nighter? Kai was pretty sure that in the manga Aokiji and Akainu fought for like 10 days straight without breaks. Kai walked into the casino without feeling even the slightest bit sluggish. Even his burns felt better. He probably should have got someone to tend to them but who cares? Kai didn't!
Kai walked up to the same roulette table he, Ace and Sabo played at last night. It was the same poor guy who was there last night. The man saw Kai walk in and started sweating. He didn't want to get fired! Kai made the casino lose a lot yesterday! Kai looked up at the guy. "Are we gonna do this whole thing again? Or would you do me a favour and get your boss out here early?" The man nodded frantically and went to get someone else.
Kai lit a cigarette and waited for his personal dealer to show up. Soon Robin walked out of the back room and walked towards his table, making everyone else in the casino gambling curse Kai for being so lucky and getting the hottest dealer. Kai felt the jealous stares and ignored them.
"What's a girl like you doing in a place like this?" Kai asked Robin, who giggled. "I happen to work here." Kai chuckled. "Not for long. I give it less than a day." Robin smiled. "Oh really? Maybe I should pack my stuff then." Kai laughed. "Wahaha! Just make sure you don't trip down the stairs and die on the way out."
"Nishishi! You're pretty funny sometimes, Mask-san." Kai smiled. "I try." Robin smiled and asked Kai. "So why are you here Mask-san? I don't take you for much of a roulette guy."
"Who knows? Maybe I just came to see you devil-chan." He said with a wink. Robin giggled. "It's not nice to get a girl's hopes up Mask-san." Kai smiled. "Who said I was joking? I really am here for you devil-chan. You're the most entertaining thing on this island right now. Maybe I just wanted to have a little fun before the big fight."
"Nishishi. Does that mean I can get my hopes up?" Robin asked Kai. "Maybe a little bit. You're pretty cute after all devil-chan." Kai said as he placed another bet. Robin giggled. "Too bad you have a mask on. It would be nice if I could see just who I was talking to."
"Nice try devil-chan, but I'm not as dumb as the two last night. If you wanna know you just might have to marry me first. After all, I might just be a big scary ugly demon without a face. It would be a shame if you ran away scared." Kai said in a playful way. "Nishishishi! It would be really horrible if you were a real demon who decided to brutally kill us all. Maybe you're just waiting to tear me limb from limb."
"Wahahaha! Who knows?" Kai laughed at Robin's joke. That was when a man with a top hat and a mask on walked into the casino along with a girl and they sat down next to Kai. Kai didn't look up. "Yo, Pipe boy, you wanna meet with the king tomorrow? I could probably get it to happen." Sabo thought for a moment. "Yeah, that would be a big help, thanks!"
Robin was a little shocked. "Shouldn't you tell your boss or someone about this? Meeting with a king as the revolutionary army is a pretty big deal." Kai snickered and looked at Sabo. Who just said. "What boss? I'll have you know, Robin, that I'm the chief of staff. And Dragon can't be bothered with every little thing." Robin froze. He was chief of staff? As in Dragon's right hand man. She looked over at both Kai and Sabo, just who are these two?!
Koala lost it when Sabo exposed himself. "Don't go telling people your position again! Why do you do this every time? We don't even know her!" Koala was pinching Sabo's cheeks into a funny shape as he had a smile on his face. "I do know her. She's the Airhead's girlfriend, right?" He said as nudged Kai in a suggestive way and tried to elicit a reaction out of either of them. "Who knows?" Kai shrugged and Robin cut in. "I don't think you should be saying that Pipe-san. Not with your girlfriend right next to you. Nishishi."
"WAHAHA! Yeah, Pipe boy! Your wife's right beside you, why are you worrying about us?" Sabo froze. They turned it on him! He slowly turned his head to Koala whose hair was waving in the air like she was a super saiyan. "What exactly did you tell these two that I was?!" She yelled at Sabo who started sweating. "Koala, you have to believe me, I didn't say anything like that! They are just demons plotting against me! It's the truth!"
"Wahaha!/Nishishi!" Robin and Kai both laughed at him and Kai added. "Actually it's devils, not demons." Robin covered her mouth. "NISHISHI!" She was laughing hard. After a minute Sabo's cheeks were beet red from all the pinching. "I'll get you both back one day." He told Robin and Kai.
Suddenly the door burst open. "I'm here to kick your ass Crocodile!!" Luffy yelled out from the door. "Wahaha! What an entrance!" Kai said from the table. Luffy ran towards Robin and Kai. "Sunday girl! Mask guy! Where's Croc?" Luffy asked with the crew following him, minus Sanji and Chopper. Both of them pointed in a certain direction and everyone ran in that direction until they saw a sign that said pirates go this way. Luffy ran the way it said to go because he was a pirate! The whole crew fell down into the cage through a trap door along with Smoker who was following them.
"Wahahaha!" Kai laughed. Robin and Sabo face palmed at the sight. "I didn't think they would actually fall for it." Robin said. Koala whose mouth was wide open in shock asked. "You're joking right? How did they fall for that? Isn't that the guy that this whole country's future rides on?"
"Shehehe! What a guy!" Sabo laughed at his idiot friend. Both Koala and Robin looked at each other very nervous for what was to come. "What's wrong with these guys?" Robin asked. Koala looked very sad. "I don't know, this isn't even nearly the worst thing Sabo has done." Robin gave her an apologetic look in understanding. "You know devil-chan. You seem awfully sad for someone who's supposedly winning a bet. Wahahaha! Anyways I think we all have somewhere to be. Koala, can you hold down the fort here?"
Robin was shocked at herself again. At some point she had started to hope Kai won the bet! She didn't know when it had happened but she couldn't deny it anymore. She started to wonder. What would happen if she actually joined the crew with Kai?
Kai smiled to himself and said nothing. Him, Robin and Sabo walked towards the hallway where Luffy and the others ran.
