Chapter 5

Title: Confident...

...

After some time passes, I finally learn something. Pirate Crews have a way more complicated structure when they have a lot of members in it. Especially one as sophisticated as Amelia's Crew, or maybe this is only how she manages the crew? Well, it doesn't matter in the end as I have seen just how efficient the method is.

Especially since her crew is not entirely loyal to her like Luffy's are. She has Doser (the muscular guy) which she trusts and is probably her 2nd in command, and then there are a bunch of other positions like gun master which makes sure the cannons are clean and all in place and such.

The treasure is split evenly amongst everyone, the captain gets 2x what everyone else gets, Doser gets 1.5x what everyone else gets and the other people with titles get around 1.2x-1.3x what everyone gets. A truly sophisticated system and there is even a crew found.

Amelia definitely must be highly educated if she can come up with something like this. Because no one would be after her captain position now, after all, the normal members in her ship get paid a lot still, and would they risk their lives and betray her just to make a little more? No, they won't. Also if anyone is injured, there is an injury found for that, and in case they can no longer work for her as a pirate, they will have a retirement fund. Meaning that no matter what, the crew looks out for each other, like one for all, and all for one.

Now I wouldn't call this the best system out there, but it is goddamn good. Even if the captain is a little cold, no one really even cares about that. Plus it seems like she is strong, really strong, so that is also why her crew is loyal to her.

I look at the people around me, and the cutlass sword in my hand. I am on the ship's deck, with the captain in front and around twenty other people around. While the rest of the crew are managing the cannons, just in case an unexpected situation arises.

"Ship spotted!!" Yells out Amelia, she currently is holding a giant spiked club over her shoulder casually. She does this with one hand, which further displays her strength.

I jump up a little and see a galleon-like ship, and instead of running away from us, it actually stops.

"Remember, don't kill if you don't have to." Orders Amelia once again, and unlike her usual nonchalant tone, this time there is a hidden threat in it.

The crew all nods, and I do too. I am honestly learning as much as I can from her on how to manage a crew, talk to people, and how you get your crew to do what you want without them even knowing that they are being manipulated.

"Max!" She finally calls my name. Doser had already warned me that something like this would happen. "Transform and roar a little, that should scare the fat merchants enough."

I nod at that and transform into my bear form. I immediately go from being one of the shortest crew members to towering over all of them except Doser who we are about the same size now.

"Nice isn't it?" I say to the crew, smiling at them with my jagged teeth showing. I can feel the power run through me, and I can't help it as I look at Amelia.

I wonder if I could defeat her? No, I mustn't get too cocky. I know that I might be stronger than her in raw power when in this form. But she definitely should have more techniques and be more experienced in fighting. My fighting experience extends about as far as middle-school fights… even then I had people fight for me as I didn't wanna get into a fair fight.

We arrived at the ship, I expected some fight… but there was only a pile of treasure on the ship's deck and a group of nervous people stared at Amelia.

"Sweet Smile' Amelia, we want no trouble with you." Says one of the men. "We heard that you don't have a violent reputation, so we have already prepared all the treasure in our ship that is worth anything."

Amelia nods at that. "I understand, I give you my word that I won't attack you at all. As long as you keep your part of the deal and don't attack us."

When I hear that, I am a little disappointed. I guess I won't be trying anything and figure out how strong my Bear Form really is.

Damn… I really might need to leave this crew soon. It's kinda useless if I am not gonna be fighting anything, I don't care about money either as it's kinda useless if you don't have the power in this world.

Still, I keep calm, this is not the time to complain yet. Even if I wanna fight to test my power, I do not want to go to such lengths that my life is in danger.

The whole ordeal with the merchant ship goes on peacefully. No one even got a scratch on them. We each took a cut of our loot and I got a couple of million Beries too. Pirating is very profitable, that is for damn sure.

But this money felt useless to me, I could go on and buy some weapons, but that is it. Starving on an island taught me a lot of things, what matters the most is me and only me.

I should start learning Haki too, who knows how much time that will take me to learn. Time is not exactly on my side either, so there is that.

Everyone is currently partying, while I stay to the side. I don't have the time to waste, I must push on harder. Every day I spend not getting stronger is a waste of time. Nothing good comes out of it.

"Oy! Max, the captain is calling you. Meet her in her cabin!" Yells a random crew member, I don't know who it is, though the voice is kind of familiar.

So I get up and walk towards her Captain's Cabin.

...

I knock on her door and wait for her to call me in.

"Come in." Comes Amelia's voice from inside.

I walk inside and see her sitting behind her desk like usual, and countless letters and a map is down on the desk.

She looks at me with her one cold eye that I can never figure out what she is thinking.

"Tell me, Max, what is your dream?" Asks Amelia suddenly out of nowhere.

I keep a calm face at this and get ready to transform just in case. Inside her room is an enclosed space and I have an advantage. She has nowhere to run.

"To become Pirate King, captain." I tell her with a casual voice.

"I see…" Says the woman, not even a trace of surprise in her eyes. "Our crew has a policy if you want to leave, you have to inform the crew first. Is that understood?"

"Yes, captain." I answered her, understanding that she saw through me and noticed that I might have slipped somewhere… damn... that sucks.

Amelia still has a calm look on her face. Does she want me to go? Or is she expecting something more? I don't know, but I decide to ask her something again. "Captain, when did you see that I was a potential flight risk?"

She smiles at that, this is the first time seeing her smile and what she says next leaves my head spinning.

"You just told me right now Max… you really shouldn't talk too much." Says Amelia, an amused smile on her face.

I see… so that is how it is. That is quite silly actually, I assumed that she read through me just because she was calm when I told her that I wanted to be the Pirate King.

"Can I go now?" I ask her, she just nods and I get up, starting to walk away.

"Also Max." Calls out Amelia.

"Hm?" I turn around with a curious look on my face.

"Don't be stupid." She says simply, to which I nod.

"Thank you, captain, it seems like I still have a lot to learn from you." I say to her, keeping the hidden meaning behind my words very evident. I will stay here to learn more from you.

"Of course you do, you are still just a kid after all." Says Amelia, and by the tone in her voice, I almost assumed that she knew something about my reincarnation.

But now I knew better, I just learned another lesson. I must seem confident no matter what, that is the way of a leader. Also, Amelia knew nothing about the real me, she hadn't seen through my disguise... yet.

….

AUTHOR NOTE:

The MC is learning how things work around here. He wants to fight, but can't since he is under someone else's leadership.

P.S: Just to make this clear, the way Amelia talks is mysterious and seems like she knows something that you don't. She doesn't really know anything about Max. But she makes it seem like she does, and Max learned that now.
