One Piece: A New Sun

Edward groaned as he rolled himself onto his back and shielded his eyes from the sun with his forearm. His mind cleared slowly as he began to recognize the sound of the soft rolling waves, and seagull calls over head.

"... ahh, where am I?" He muttered.

[As I said, you are in the world of One Piece,] a calm female voice answered, causing him to immediately jolt.

"Who said that!" he shouted as he quickly shifted around.

[Calm down and look ahead of you, dunderhead.] The voice replied sarcastically.

Edward looked directly ahead of him and just now noticed a large text window hovering several feet from his face.

[I am Claira, your personal assistant provided to you by Isekai Corp. If you wish to mute my voice and receive notifications through text only, please tap the mute icon on the bottom right.I will now begin to walk you through the basics of using our system.]

"Hold up, STOP!" Edward shouted as he waved his arms. "I still don't have any idea what's going on, or where I am!"

The woman sighed. [To put it bluntly, we dispatched a Truck-kun to 'help you cross into the afterlife,' if you will.]

Edward's jaw hung ajar as he processed this. [You sent a truck to kill me? What the fuck!] He was about to begin a tirade of vulgar insults before she continued.

[Well, our divinations department foresaw your death roughly two days after we had Truck-kun visit you. As such, we decided you would be more than happy to take part in the testing of our brand new services.]

Edward was even more speechless as he shouted, "YOU KILLED ME BECAUSE OF SOME SHIT FORTUNE TELLING?!"

[Sir, please calm down! Our divination department is composed of the best tellers, and has an accuracy rating of 87%. I can assure you that us intervening was the best case scenario for you. Now, may I continue the tour of our system, or do you want to scream some more?] She was clearly irritated at him insulting their divination department.

Edward felt his head swim as she talked. Luckily, he wasn't the protagonist of a chinese cultivation novel, otherwise he would've spit out blood by now.

He cradled his head in his hands and sighed. "You're… Are you sure I was going to die?" He asked weakly.

[Absolutely sir. Well, a 87% positivity, but that's basically guaranteed. You only have gains from our involvement.]

Edward nodded and weakly stood up. "Ok… go ahead and explain it to me…"

[Sure!] The woman said in a bright and cheery voice.

[Our system offers many benefits that I'm sure will have you jumping for joy!]

Edwarded rolled his eyes and he walked out towards the gentle tide.

[Isekai Corp is dedicated to giving our customers the best experience possible. As such, you don't need to worry about following the plot of the original One Piece story line.]

Edward nodded as his eyes followed the circling seagulls overhead.

[We have deposited you roughly around the time Luffy sets sail and gains his first crew member, Zoro. Whether and how you choose to interact with him, it's your choice.]

Edward nodded again.

[Our system offers many different features. First off, we have a gacha system. We have spent a decent amount of time optimizing this feature to make it as balanced as possible.Our gacha reward tier works as follows:

Rewards:

Rare: 78.75% (R for short)

Super Rare: 20% (SR for short)

Super Super Rare: 1% (SSR)

Special: 0.25%" (SP)

Naturally, the better a reward, the less likely you are to get it.

Gacha tickets are earned through daily tasks, random rewards, and can be purchased with the real world currency at 1,000,000 Beli per ticket.]

Edward squinted as he nodded. "What kind of rewards would I get from super super rare, and special to make them such a low outcome?"

[Good question. Something that Special would offer would be a genuine Devil Fruit or the storyline to gain an exceptionally powerful crew member. Super Super Rare may also include meeting a powerful person with the option to add him/her to the crew, or something like a brand new ship, or cursed sword.]

"What do you mean, 'the storyline to gain an exceptionally powerful crew member'?" Edward asked in confusion.

[This will be someone of considerable notoriety or potential. To add them to your crew permanently, you first have to find them, and help them through their personal crisis; forging a permanent bond with them.]

"So like each of the straw hats," Edward mused.

[Exactly,] Claira said. [In the world of one piece, the straw hats are able to stand so tall despite having so few members because of this.]

"Ok, so what am I supposed to do now?" Edward asked as he looked around.

[Well, we have prepared a welcoming gift for you. Every new customer gets a package of 10 Gacha, and is guaranteed a SP Devil Fruit and either an SSR or SP rated crewmember storyline.]

"Ok, so how do I use the gacha?" Edward questioned.

"I'll let you know whenever you receive a gacha ticket and you can choose to either stockpile them or open them immediately. Now, would you like to open your starter pack?"

"Yes," Edward nodded.

Edward looked ahead and saw the screen transform into something that looked like a casino. 10 golden tickets floated in the center of the screen as the busling casino scene behind blurred out of focus.

[The developers wanted this to require user interaction, so to activate your tickets, you need to swipe your finger across the tickets.]

"Oh…" Edward raised his finger and rested it upon the screen. Odly, it felt cold to the touch, very similar to glass. With a quick swipe, he brought his finger right and left a line along the tickets. Each ticket realigned itself into a straight line and dissolved.

The first ticket opened at the forefront.

Edward's brow twitched as he watched the first six R rewards open. "What is this? This is rare? All of these are clearly shit!"

"Those boots aren't bad though…"

"Charisma? This isn't fallout…"

"Asai Sakana? I hope she's cute…"

"Oh shit! Sun Sun Fruit?! That sounds like a good one!"

"Hey, Claira! What does the Sun Sun fruit do?!" Edward asked excitedly.

[Sorry, I was talking to the girl in the cubicle next to me. She's the assistant to the guy we sent to the Naruto world. What did you want me to do?]

"I got the Sun Sun Fruit. I want to know what it lets me do!" Edward repeated.

[Ok, let me bring up some info on it… Ok got it. The Sun Sun Fruit (Ama Ama no Mi) is a Logia-type devil fruit. Your body will amass the power of solar energy, and lets you become intangible, allowing attacks to pass through you. Due to the incredible heat given off by the Sun Sun Fruit, the user has to be careful to not burn both friend and foe to a crisp. It can be thought of as the hottest devil fruit."

Edward rubbed his jaw. "That sounds pretty amazing, but I guess I can only use the power when no ones around? That makes it much more useless…"

[Not necessarily. It just means you have to practice to control it properly more than other devil fruit users. Oh and here's your earnings. The system storage has been intentionally disabled, as to not make things too easy on you.]

Directly at Edward's feet appeared several items. 2,000 beli and a small haggard wallet appeared along with the assortment of other items.

The one that attracted his attention immediately was the sun sun fruit. It was circular with a light orange color covered in circular ornate swirls. It seemed to glow slightly as the air wavered around it.

[I would suggest moving far away from your other prizes before you take that fruit. Unless you want to incinerate all of it that is.]

"Ah, right!" Edward nodded.

He quickly snatched up the fruit and retreated a distance away. After what he felt was a safe distance, he looked down at the fruit in his hands. "Here we go!"

He opened his mouth wide and took a bite.

"..."

*GULP*

"This tastes like shit!" Edward shouted with a grimace. "Do I have to eat it all? Fuck." He steeled himself before he screwed his eyes shut and began to devour the fruit so fast, he didn't have to process the taste.

"Blagh, pthooey."

[You have to eat it all. Stop trying to spit it out!]

"I know, I…" Edward began to reply before he felt the heat within his stomach rising. "Oh shit…"

Before he could continue, his whole body was engulfed in light as a huge explosion rocked the beach.

A beam of light shot into the sky, and held for several seconds before receding back into his body. Edward's body was left on the ground in what appeared to be a puddle of light. It was several more seconds before his body began to reform.

Edward let out a comfortable sigh as he pushed himself up and looked down.

"Oh wow!" he exclaimed in surprise. He taped his toes on the ground and found it to a thick slab of glass. Most of the ground had actually disintegrated.

Not only that, but all of his clothes reformed with his body as well.

"I always wondered; how does everyone's clothes reform after they've gone intangible? Like you see someone turn into sand, or lava, then when they reform, their clothes are perfect and pristine." Edward questioned.

[Perhaps it is best not to question the laws that govern this world,] Claira suggested.

"... good point." Edward replied. "So what now?"

[Well, you should probably take this time to practice your new powers. Even if you can't use it properly yet, you need to make sure you can contain it, otherwise everyone around you will disintegrate.]

Edward nodded, "Ok, I'll try it now."

Tensing his body, Edward thought back on the feeling he had before. The feeling was extremely comfortable as he felt his body heat up again, and he quickly transformed back into a raging body of blinding light.

Edward continued this for two hours until he was able to control the sun sun fruit enough to make only his hands turn into solar energy.

[Hmmm! Ah, it's up to you. I guess I'll sign out now since I'm off the clock. Have fun Edward!]

"Woa-woa-wait! Where are you going?!" Edward stuttered. She was leaving already?

[I have a life too, you know! I can't sit around with you all day!] she said disdainfully. [Look, I'll be on with you from 8am to 5pm. I'd suggest going to the small town on this island and using your beli to rent a room.Goodnight.]

"..." Edward stayed silent as he listened to her sign off.
