CHAPTER SEVEN

SCARLET'S POV:

I stood there in disbelief after receiving his unexpected phone call. He was asking me out for dinner. A part of me was unsure if he genuinely wanted to give our relationship a chance, or if he was just trying to insult me again. Despite my reservations, I decided to take a leap of faith and get ready to go out with him. By five o'clock, I was halfway through getting ready, feeling a mixture of excitement and nervousness.

As the clock struck six, I heard the doorbell ring. I hurriedly made my way to the door, my heart pounding in my chest. Opening the door, I was greeted by Mason, who looked incredibly handsome. He wore sweatpants and a brown skin-tight t-shirt, his hair perfectly styled. A smile lit up his face as he handed me a bouquet of flowers.

Returning his smile, I thanked him for the flowers, placing them on the table beside me. He complimented me, saying how beautiful I looked, causing my cheeks to turn a shade of red. I shyly nodded, feeling a surge of happiness. Mason then asked if I was ready to go out with him. I nodded eagerly, putting on my best dress, and we left my house together.

Mason took me to a fancy restaurant, a place I knew I could never afford on my own. The waiter led us to a table that had a reserved sign on it. Feeling a mix of excitement and gratitude, I glanced at Mason, who smiled reassuringly. The waiter handed us the menu and asked for our orders. Unsure of what to choose, I looked to Mason for guidance. He confidently placed our orders, and as the waiter left, Mason looked at me and said, "You're looking very beautiful tonight." I blushed, thanking him for the compliment.

Wanting to understand his change of heart, I asked hesitantly, "What made you change your mind about giving us a chance?" Mason poured himself a glass of water, looking thoughtful before replying, "I reflected on what you said, that we can't die with the dead. It made me realize that I do deserve a chance at happiness, even if it means taking a risk." I nodded in understanding, feeling touched by his words.

Curiosity getting the better of me, I asked Mason about his family. He looked around and then back at me, confessing, "I have a family. My sons are my top priority. I never considered remarriage because I didn't want them to suffer. If we continue, can you treat them as your own children?" I smiled warmly, assuring him, "I will try my best to be a good mother to them. All children deserve love."

Mason smiled in return, his eyes reflecting gratitude. As our dinner arrived, we shifted the conversation towards our lives, getting to know each other on a deeper level. I discovered that he was a genuinely kind-hearted man who had dedicated his life to his children after his wife's passing.

After dinner, Mason dropped me off at my home. I expressed my gratitude for the wonderful evening and the chance to spend time with him. He, too, seemed happy with our time together. We shared a friendly side hug before he suggested that I join the office again tomorrow, as a way for us to get to know each other better. Excited about the prospect, I agreed, hoping that everything would continue to progress smoothly from this point onwards.
