CHAPTER 5: School Or Trouble?

Skylee P.O.V

A familiar face with grey eyes was looking at me like I had grown two heads. His jaw hung down with eyes big like saucers. Two more familiar faces came into view and I almost forgot how to breathe.

Damn, Skylee!

My heart started to pound so fast as an unknown feeling appeared in the pit of my stomach that made me feel sick. Taking a hold of my inner fragile self, I managed to glare at him because he was staring at me so oddly.

One of his friends, who called me a bitch back then, put a hand on his shoulder and he looked as if, he had just come back in reality. Then he shook his head, chuckled, and come inside to sit on the desk across from mine. Just great!

"Someone needs a warm welcome here." I heard him say when he walked past my desk, emphasizing the word 'warm'. Unknowingly, I gulped and looked at the door to avoid God know what actually.

From all the schools in New York, he had to be here and Brother Xander had to send me here. What a stroke of blue moon luck I've got!

"Shit!" I cursed, slamming the table when the weird feeling didn't disappear.

"What happened?" The girl beside me asked. I had already forgotten her name.

I looked at Mr. Got slapped. He was sitting on the desk that was almost beside my desk. His early expressions of shock and surprise were changed into a huge frown, and now he was glaring at me, hard, as if, he could kill me by his looks.

Glaring back at him, I looked at the girl beside me.

"What?" She was confused and curious.

In between contemplating whether I should tell her something or not, the teacher arrived and I let the topic go. I couldn't tell her anything anyway when I knew nothing about her.

The English teacher - Professor William was an aged man with grey hair combed to the left side, dark eyes with normal features, and was wearing a black shirt tucked in brown dress pants. He appeared a nice gentleman to me until he said something and I stopped myself from cursing loudly.

He said, "So, we have a new student today, a transfer student more particularly from the branch of Los Angeles," he gestured me to come. "Miss Skylee, would you like to come here and introduce yourself?"

'Sure.' I internally smirked.

I stood up from my seat and walked straight towards his desk, maintaining a confident figure. Every eye was looking at me and I could feel the fierce gaze of a particular person boring holes in my appearance. I noticed another girl, who was sitting on the first desk, was also glaring at me like a little girl do when we snatched her favorite chocolate.

But... 'Do all the students here have grey eyes?' She also had grey eyes, but a lighter shade of them.

Taking a sharp breath in, I ignored all of them.

"Skylee. I'm an odd combination of 'Not-so-sweet' and 'Don't mess with me.' I don't make friends. So, stay away from me." I said sternly and made my way back to my desk without waiting for Mr. William's reply. I heard many gasps and whispers after my introduction. I smirked as I sat down on my seat.

Mr. William coughed to make everyone quiet and said, "Alright, that's enough. Skylee, if you find any problem in the study, you can always come to me or either take notes from Rosalyn. She is a brilliant student. Now students open your books."

Mr. William started to read some pages of our course novel 'The old man and the sea' while my least focused was on him. My mind and eyes, again and again, wandered towards the person sitting at some, one desk distance away from me. His presence was making me unable to concentrate on the class.

Likewise, I also felt his killer gaze boring holes in my skull and it did irritate me too much. I felt uncomfortable under his piercing gaze. Embracing myself, when I looked at him, he didn't mind looking away instead he smirked. I looked back at my book.

I squatted closer to the girl beside me and whispered. "Hey!"

She looked up at the teacher who was busy telling us something about the symbolism of dreams.

"What?" She whispered back.

"Who is that guy over there?" I said, pointing at Mr. Got slapped with my pencil.

"You mean Eric." She said, looking at him then back at me with a questioning gaze.

Oh, so Mr. Got Slapped name is Eric.

"You want to tell me something about the prank and..." I left my sentence incomplete and looked at the teacher who was telling something about the feeling of loneliness on the surface of the sea of the old man - Santiago.

"I want to tell you about the Queen bee and Trio. Try to maintain a ten-foot distance from them. They are nothing but pure trouble. Actually, they are pretty rich and spoiled students with tons of attitude and ego." She stopped to look at the teacher then she leaned closer and continued.

"Apparently, they are pretty popular among all students. They held a stupid threat aroma around them and if they don't like someone, that person doesn't stand a chance to survive in this school. Because of popularity, no one complains about them and they do all kinds of worst pranks just for fun."

As usual, rich spoiled brats! But did it mean I was in big trouble? No way, they hadn't collided with Skylee Kingston yet.

I smiled at her and asked, "Tell me more about them."

"Queen bee is the daughter of a businessman, a well-known name in New York City -- Mark Enterprises. An architectural company that always handles all the big projects of New York. She is just a pain in the ass, so selfish, egoistic, and a control freak. Who thoughts the world just revolve around herself."

"Too bad, people let her control them and treat her like a Queen so she treats them like slaves." She said, making a disgusting face.

"I thought this school has a rule of keeping surname confidential," I said.

"Only if you want. And why would she want to keep her surname hidden when she can get popular by revealing it?" She smirked.

I kept my surname as a world secret, even though I could get famous if anyone figured my real identity.

What's the fun of getting known by everyone? Keeping yourself a mystery for others to solve is real fun.

"The girl sitting on the first desk is Helen Mark - the queen bee. She had spelled 20 students in total." She said, looking at the teacher pretending as if we were hearing him. But I no longer hear him.

And my Mum asked me to stay away from trouble. Now tell me how could I stay away from trouble when it was standing just a few steps away?

"Trio, a group of three boys - Eric, Zack, and Owen. They are nothing but world-class jerks. Hot, handsome, players and heartbreakers, good-looking and have the charm to flatter anyone. They change girls like clothes and flirt with almost every girl. Somehow, they are part of the basketball team and you have no idea how popular they are among boys and girls, inside and outside of this school." She smirked.

And I slapped him - Eric. Didn't it ruin his reputation a bit? I wanted to ask this but chose to keep my mouth shut for some reason.

Okay, so now, the real trouble is sitting beside me. I peeked at him with my peripheral vision. As much as I was stuck in trouble a part of me laughed internally. These rich brats had not met Skylee yet. This year was going to be so much fun.

I again looked at Eric and smirked. He was jolting something in his notebook when noticing my gaze, he looked at me. I saw something in those grey orbs, a kind of threat for not sparing me. I immediately looked back at my book.

"He is handsome, no? I advised you not to fall for his charm. He is the biggest player and heartbreaker among them." The girl beside me said in a matter-of-fact tone whose name I still didn't remember.

"Don't advise me. Keep it to yourself." I said.

Once the bell ring and the lecture ended, I was the first person leaving the classroom. I literally ran in no particular direction. Wait... Why the hell was I running? I stopped interrupted by my thought.

I can't be scared of him. Who is he? No one but a jerk. How can I let him scare me? Instead, I should be the one scaring him.

I shook my head and walked towards my locker. I opened it and placed my things inside. Then I picked the book for the next lecture.

I turned around only to be hit with very hard rock. I flinched and looked up to meet the same piercing grey eyes and a huge frown.

He was standing so close that I could easily smell his muscular scent along with his strong cologne doing something crazy with me. He placed both of his hands on both sides of my head, literally caging me between him and the locker.

My eyes widen when he leaned closer to my face and let me say if there was any other girl, she must be already falling for him.

I repeat, any other girl but me.

He leaned closer to my face, now he was just three inches away before his nose could touch mine because I could feel his minty breath fanning my face.

My eyes grew bigger when he whispered in a husky voice, "Why the hell did you slap me?"
