I sat there over Murin’s dead body in shock. This was a moment I had pictured happening most of my life but it had never occurred to me I would have to kill him to save anyone by myself. My reasoning behind doing so still settling in fully.

I hadn’t confirmed yet that the test wasn’t Nellie’s. I also wouldn’t have put it past Murin to lie about it either, but the possibility he was telling the truth made my heart race. I scrambled to my feet just in time for Alice to come through the front door of Murin’s house.

She stopped just in front of the door to the study. Her eyes widened as she looked between me and her former boss. My heart rate pounded in my ears like a timer reminding me I needed to get to Reign.

I took a step back, looking around me for anything I could use as a weapon if I needed to, and Alice immediately picked up on my body language. She held out her hands and stepped back a couple of paces.
