40. Time's Up

I hold my breath as I listen to Sammy complain about his toothbrush to George.

"I'm serious, Dad. This doesn't look like my toothbrush. Something feels off."

Having rushed out to the nearest shop to buy the exact same colour of their old toothbrushes, I had successfully replaced them before they woke up.

I let out my breath when George calls what Sammy is saying a bluff. I continue searching for the best top to match with the palazzo trousers I have chosen to wear for today. My panic returns when I hear George say…

"Hey, you know what? I think you're right, mine feels different too. Let's ask Sarah if she has anything to do with this."

Before I can rehearse the lie I plan to tell, George has already popped his head from the bathroom door.

"What's up?" I casually ask as if I don't already know what he is about to ask me.

"Did you happen to change our toothbrushes?"
