41. Dilemma

"I'm so sorry, Dave," I mutter while grabbing the keys to Michael's mansion from one of the cabinets labeled 'Do not touch'. It's not as if he deserves the apology, especially after what happened between us.

Holding the set of keys tightly in my fidgeting hands, I sneak out of the underground hall where the section for confiscated properties is kept.

I start letting out the tense breath with each step I take up the main floor of the building.

"Officer Sarah?"

My heart leaps on hearing my name. I slowly turn, saying a silent prayer for whoever it is not to be a strict colleague of mine.

It turns out to be just the guy in charge of the underground area. He flashes me a curious look when I don't say anything else.

"Since you wouldn't willingly tell me, may I ask what you're doing here?"

"Ermm… My boss…"

His brows furrow in confusion, "Dave sent you?"

I nod at him.
