Chapter thirty-three

Regan and Elena got ready to go the office the next day as they had an appointment with the police. He dressed in a black polo Ralph Lauren poplin button down shirt with black slacks while Elena dressed in a Rassimy textured mini dress.

She sat at the vanity in her room as she applied her make up. Today was going to be a big day for her. Finally, she was going to stand up for herself. She remembered her mum and sighed. She flinched when she felt a pair of lips on her neck.

"She won't be angry forever. Don't worry about it." Regan said. His face was still in the crook of her neck.

"Are you reading my thoughts now, Reggie?" she asked with a smile on her lips. Lately, Regan knew what she was thinking even without her talking.

"Are you forgetting that you are mine now?" he placed another lingering kiss on her neck.

"Reggie. We have to go to work. You will leave a hickey… stop." She whined and wiggled out of his hungry lips.

"Then get dressed already."

She checked her make up and put on the simplest jewellery she had. "I'm ready."

He took her hand and led her out of the house.

...….

When he passed the cubicle, Arielle was missing. Regan concluded that she was busy with something else so he walked into his office with Elena hand in hand.

Regan placed his hands on Elena's. He could sense her tension. She had her finger entwined and her eyes were dilated and shaky. "You will be fine babe. I'm here."

She only smiled in response.

The door was knocked on and Arielle came in after Regan had allowed her to. "Good morning."

"Good morning Ari." Regan replied and got the memo the moment she gave him a pointed look. "Elena, meet my secretary, Arielle."

"Regan, you didn't have to be so formal, hi Elena." Arielle said mindlessly.

Elena's eyes slowly perused the black haired woman. If she was his secretary that why was she so informal and casual? She looked at Regan with questioning eyes.

"You can ask me anything you want later, Elena. We have something important to do today." He knew that Elena might be thinking up things but the office was not the best place to settle scores.

She only nodded. The greater part of her mind was occupied by something else. When she had started working at the Leroy's resort, she never got to see the secretary one on one. She pinched herself to get rid of the thoughts forming in her head. Regan would never do such a thing to her and even if something was going on, she would ask him later.

Arielle noticed the woman's discomfort and realized that it wasn't time for her chatty character. So she looked at Regan and asked, "Can I stay when the police come? Please…" she rounded her eyes as she pleaded.

"Who is going to be at your desk?"

"I already asked David and he said he'd stay." She already knew her boss in and out so she got ready before hand.

Reign sighed with fake tiredness. "Okay, but you have to stay out there till the others come. We need to talk." He looked at Elena who was still trying to get herself together.

Arielle mouthed an okay and left the office to her cubicle.

After she left, Regan rolled up his sleeves and walked over to her. He gently nudged her up and led her to the leather sofa in his office. She wordlessly followed him and allowed him to hold her.

"Do you want answers first?" he asked soothingly as he stroked her back.

"I trust you but if you feel like it, then answers it is." Her voice came barely above a whisper.

Regan smiled. It made his heart warm to know that she trusted him. He told her everything she needed to know about Arielle.

She only hummed in response to all he told her. He knew that her mind was going haywire at the time to be concerned with a trifle matter like that. He took her hand in his and said, "You'll do just fine perle. Lucy, Zeke and I will be here. All that you have to do is say something. We have proof against them so there's no escaping this time okay?"

She sat up and met his eyes, she stared at him with doe eyes. She mustered a small smile and said, "Thank you, Reggie."

He drew her into his arms again and said, "I'll get Claus to talk to your mother. I'm sure she can't stay mad at you for that long." He stopped to see her nod in his embrace, "Now breathe Perle. You have another man on your mind and I don't like it."

They spent some time together before Lucy and Zeke arrived. Claus stepped in shortly after with Maxwell. "Is everything all set?" Regan asked.

Maxwell nodded and showed everyone the flash that contained the information they needed. Regan looked at Elena and noticed how she kept avoiding eye contact with her brother. He squeezed her hand gently under the table.

"How are you Elena?" Lucy asked.

She simply nodded in response and offered a small smile.

"You will be fine." Zeke said from his seat beside his wife.

She whispered a thank you and stared at her lap, hoping that her brother wouldn't speak to her and gratefully, the door opened and Arielle walked in with two police officers.

"Good day all…" she greeted but the moment her eyes met Claus, she lost her tongue. "I… they… um" she shook her head to get rid of the stuttering, "They are here to see you sir."

Regan nodded and everyone sat down in the office. Arielle shut the door and took a seat beside Maxwell.

"We are from the state CID. I am Olivia and this is my colleague, Freddie. We have received reports about a case of poisoning which is equivalent to attempted murder. I'm sure you know why we are here." The woman named Olivia spoke with audacity. The police officers presented their ID cards and she continued, "Let's get straight to business, shall we?" her left brow shot up as she looked at everyone in the office.

Maxwell provided the laptop and the flash. Olivia and Freddie watched the video attentively and said nothing until they were done.

Olivia clasped her hands together and asked, "He works here?"

"Yes" Regan replied.

"I would like to speak with him. You know, ask him a question or two." He sharp eyes stared unblinkingly at Regan.

Regan nodded and said, "I'd also like you to interrogate an accomplice. Her name is Agnes."

"Send them in." the woman said.
