Chapter thirty- four

Arielle left the office and came back shortly after with the two people in question. It was easy to tell that they were fretting furiously while also trying to maintain their cool.

"Please have a seat." Olivia gestured them toward two empty chairs. When they were seated, she reintroduced herself and her colleague. "I am sure that you have heard about the incident that took place a while ago in this very resort. So I will ask you a couple of questions and I expect nothing but utmost co-operation." She took out a small notepad and a pen.

"But we did nothing to be questioned!" Agnes whined.

Olivia looked at the brat in front of her and with a raised brow she said, "And who said you did anything?"

Connor was quick to interject, "I'm sorry for her behaviour, please carry on with the investigation. We will be more than happy to answer your questions." He tried his best not to sound or look nervous in front of the many people seated in the office.

Olivia gave the blonde man a disinterested once over and asked, "You are Connor, aren't you?"

He replied with a nod.

"I need words Connor, you are not mute."

"Yes… yes, I am Connor." he replied. Olivia was tougher than she looked, he thought. Her straight face was unnerving him more and more by the minute.

"Where were you on the day of the incident?" she asked as she clicked her pen and stared at the man with a blank expression on her face.

"I was here at the resort."

"Hmm. Did you by any chance come in contact with anything your boss ate that day?"

"I don't think so."

"Okay, do you suspect anyone in or outside this room?"

"Yes, Elena."

Olivia looked at Connor and Agnes calculatingly and said, "That is enough. Agnes right?"

"R-right." If there was one thing Agnes wasn't good at, it was handling tension and anxiety. She silently wished that the whole thing would come to an end and she cursed herself for agreeing to work with Connor. 'Lord if I get out of this, I will never be desperate again.' She prayed silently.

"Where were you on the day of the incident?"

"I was here a-at the r-resort." She wished she would stop stuttering.

"Do you also think that Elena is behind the crime?"

"Ah-yes, Mr Leroy made her his personal chef and he rarely eats at the resort and since she is in charge of the meals he eats, then I suspect her."

"That is enough. I have something for you. I'd like you to pay attention to it and tell me what you see." She signalled Maxwell to replay the video which he had presented earlier.

The two watched the video and Regan found pleasure in watching them lose their heads. They were shocked beyond words. Before the passing of Gwen and Aaron, cameras were only installed in significant places but when Maxwell had noticed the way the Irish man lurked around Elena and the hallways, he planted cameras there and it had come in handy.

When Olivia had had enough, she paused it and said, "Now do you have any proof that the people in the footage are not you?"

"B-b-but I didn't do anything. It was all Connor's idea; he tricked me into doing it!" Agnes wailed. She wanted to save herself by all means. Connor glared at her but didn't say a word. The footage was as clear as day.

"Agnes I believe that everyone here is grown and is sensible enough to know when they are being tricked into doing something that is wrong. Let's save my time here. You both are under arrest-."

"One more thing! One more thing." Elena chipped in.

Olivia's head snapped to her direction. Elena handed her the papers that proved the abortion. "What is this?" she asked.

"Abortion papers," She said quietly. Regan rubbed her hand to keep her going. "They are abortion papers. He made me do it and he said if I told anyone, he'd kill me."

Connor's eyes were as wide as saucers at Elena's sudden braveness. Not in a thousand years did he think that she would expose him like this.

"I can call the doctor if you need more proof." She said more resolutely.

Olivia nodded and Elena dialled Doctor Terry's number. The call connected on the first ring and she put it on speaker, "Hi Doctor Terry. I am with the police right now and they would like to hear more about my case."

"Oh I would be glad to. Anything to see that he gets what he deserves." Doctor Terry said and iterated everything they needed him to say.

"Wow Connor, you are one hell of a guy, aren't you?" sarcasm danced in her question. "Freddie, get going with the cuffs. Say your goodbyes before you meet in court."
