The Pills (2)

"These pills shouldn't be in your possession…unless someone in your home is taking them" Mr. Lucas announced with a grave voice and a solemn look on his face.

Mr. Perkin nervously coughed. He knew that no one was taking the drugs in his house. But he possibly couldn't tell Lucas that the pills were gotten from someone else's house which was also given to Perdita the day before. He pretended to be surprised and shocked, but at the same time, he wanted to know why it shouldn't be in his possession.

Was it an illegal pill?! Were the siblings involved in something unlawful? Perkin questioned in his mind.

"Ahm…" Perkin cleared his throat and shifted in his sitting position once more. His small black eyes peered at Lucas in anticipation. He asked, "Why do you say so, Mr. Lucas?"

Lucas licked his lips and a tired sigh escaped his lips "Mr. Perkin, I don't know the person taking the pills in your home, but I would strongly advise the person to stop taking them for their health"

Lucas sighed again and leaned against the table to support his weight. Experimenting all night had taken a big toil on his fragile human body. He continued to say, "The pill you brought to me is a birth control pill."

"Birth control pills?!" Perkin exclaimed in a loud voice.

Mr. Lucas misinterpreted Perkin's surprised voice thinking he was shocked to find out that someone was using a birth control pill in his home. He knew only Perkin and his wife lived in their house with no relatives or even children. They were a childless couple. Who else could have been taking the pills if not his wife?!

Lucas's eyebrow furrowed in a deep frown that creased his old face. Was Perkin's wife perhaps taking the pills to avoid childbearing?! The frown on his face turned into a shock as he stared at the confused Perkin.

"Is your wife..."

"Of course not!" Perkin interrupted Lucas before he could finish what he was saying knowing what he could be thinking.

"My wife will never do that! I know her, she can't possibly be taking those pills not to conceive!" Perkin's voice rose higher each time he spoke to defend his wife. He knew it was false, and he couldn't imagine what would happen if word went out that his wife was taking birth control pills.

No! He wouldn't allow it, not when it was another person that was taking them.

"Mr. Perkin, calm down. I know it's hard to believe at first, but you should speak with your wife…"

"I said she is not the one taking those pills!" Perkin roared and abruptly stood up making the chair he was sitting on fall back with a loud thud. Realizing himself and what he was doing, Perkin lowered his voice and whispered "My wife will never do that when we both desperately need a child"

Lucas walked around the table and went towards Perkin. He placed a comforting hand on his shoulder and said, "I know it's hard for you to believe, like I said earlier, calm down and talk to your wife. She can still conceive if she stopped taking the pills" Lucas assured but it only infuriated Perkin more.

Perkin shoved his hand off his shoulder and glared at Lucas who didn't want to believe him as he kept insisting his wife was the one taking them. God knew what will happen if the villagers heard this, which was totally false.

Perkin paced around the room perplexed. He didn't know if he took the wrong pill or not. But he was sure it was the same pills that, that old man gave Perdita. Did he get the wrong pills? Perkin wondered.

How could he tell them that it was Perdita that was taking the pills and not his wife? Was Perdita involved in immoral acts? No wonder those vampires were always coming to meet her. She has been going around whoring in the village. Perkin continued questioning himself and came to a conclusion with the most plausible answer he could form.

The question now was, would Lucas and the villagers believe him if he told them that? Would they believe him if he told them that the ever-joyful innocent lady was busy satisfying men in the kingdom?!

Perkin's eyes hardened in anger, come what may, he must find and gather enough evidence to expose Perdita or even catch her in the act!

Meanwhile, away from the village of Woodbridge, in the town of Salem where the castle is located, Sthena and Daemon sat in the drawing room with the royal apothecary who had been busy since daybreak while trying to discover the contents of the pills.

After some hours of waiting in the room, the royal apothecary announced that he was done with the experiment.

"What did you discover?" Sthena questioned with his red glacial eyes that watched the man.

The royal apothecary bowed deeply at the king before saying "Milord, according to the experiment I conducted, these pills are blood pills"

"Blood pills. Hmm," Sthena hummed. He wasn't surprised at all. When he saw first the pills, he had suspected the same thing.

Blood pill was something common in pureblooded vampires, and sometimes in average vampires too. They are pills made from human blood. Though they are not effective as when vampires drink human blood, it helps in cubbing the thirst to drink blood for a while.

For a pureblooded vampire, it doesn't really help because it only lasts for a few hours before the urge to drink blood becomes more potent. This was the reason why blood pills became extinct. It had little or no effect on pureblooded vampires. But for an average vampire, it could last them a few days when they take it together with alcohol or the blood of a cat.

Alcohol and cat blood were also used as food for vampires when they didn't see human blood to drink. This was the reason why, when Perdita and her brother took the pill together with the cat's blood, it subdued their thirst for blood.

Sthena rubbed his chin in thought. The siblings thought they were only drinking cat blood, they didn't know they were also taking human blood.

Sthena waved his hand for the royal apothecary to continue.

The man bowed again before continuing to say, "Aside from that, Milord, it also has a birth control substance in them that could damage the womb of any woman, even that of a pureblooded vampire."

Sthena's brow rose in surprise, so the green-eyed vampire lady has been taking these pills without knowing it could damage her womb and also others who could have bought and taken the pills.

Who are the producers of these pills and what could they be aiming for? Sthena questioned in his mind.

The royal apothecary cleared his throat to gain the attention of the men in the room. He clasped his hands in front of him with a frown that marred his young-looking face.

"There is something more I found out that was also added to the pills, that could be more dangerous, especially to a pureblooded vampire"
