New Pokemon and first advancement

On the outskirts of Viridian Forest, next to the fire at his campsite, Lukas is intently staring at the blinking Poke ball in his hand.

*ding*

Hearing the sound that indicates a successful capture, Lukas breathed a sigh of relief, especially glancing at the coin lying on the ground with the red side pointing up.

"Come out."

"Abraaa!"

Seemingly not satisfied with losing in such a way, Abra gives an annoyed cry while spotting a disgruntled expression.

"Don't be like that, I just beat you in a game of wits."

"Abra!"

"Don't worry, you'll still get the potion." While placating his still slightly upset new partner, Lukas looked at Abras full summary.

Looking at Abras move set, Lukas was speechless.

'Did she do nothing other than practice moves the moment she was born or what'

Of course, looking at the moves one more time, one can tell little thought went into building this move set.

Abra despite having learned 7 moves to novice and above only has two that can actually deal damage.

On top of that, both of them are psychic-type moves as well.

'Well, it seems Abra noticed this problem as well'

Seeing multiple damaging moves of different types in the learning column, Lukas can only imagine that Abra probably came across a Dark or Steel-type Pokemon against which her moves showed minimal to no effect.

Her Stats are about equal to Charmander whose Constitution and Agility rose to high during the tournament.

Clapping to get the attention of all his 3 Pokemon who have been getting to know each other, Lukas clears his throat before speaking up.

"Alright every one we are currently in the southeast region of Viridian Forest, our goal is to head northeast to reach Honey City that borders the forest west from Celadon City. Once there, I want to use the local Fight Club to train all of you until you're ready to take on the Honey City Gym."

While Lukas would have liked to get his first gym badge in Viridian City, he can't, since the gym of Demi Lauren is an elite gym, giving out a badge necessary to compete in the Senior League Championship.

Obviously, Lukas, now being an unofficial Junior trainer, can only participate in the Junior League Championship.

Of course, every trainer that isn't Expert-rank can only participate there for the experience.

"Next, Riolu, with the R. Candy potion, your limit training should be completed so you can break through to the Bronze-rank today."

"RIO!"

"As for you two, you'll both have to increase your physical and/or energy attributes a bit before you can start your limit training. Though, thanks to the potion, your overall speed should be faster than when Riolu went through it."

"Charmander!" "Abra?"

"Oh yes, you don't know what limit training is yet, right?"

Seeing her nod, Lukas gave her a brief explanation.

Basically, most Pokemon that are training seriously will break through when all their stats reach high.

That is then called "normal breakthrough" because no negative side effects are caused.

Should any stat still be at the mid-rank when a Pokemon breaks through it will be a "bad breakthrough" because for every stat at mid-rank a Pokemon will get a negative trait for that stat reducing it by a percentage. This also scales higher the more stats are at mid-rank.

(Example:

Pokemon A: advances to Bronze rank with 5 (high) and 1 (mid) stat in this case strength, it will receive the following trait after advancement: Debuff I (str), reducing the Pokemons strength by 5% permanently.

Pokemon B: advances to Bronze rank with 3 (high) and 3 (mid) stats in this case strength, constitution and agility, it will receive the following trait after advancement: Debuff III (str, con, agi), reducing all three mentioned stats by 15% permanently.)

Since this is about limit training, it is obvious that there is another type of breakthrough.

In fact there are two namely the "good breakthrough" that you get, if all stats are at min. high, for every peak ranked stat.

Instead of the negative trait "Debuff" for every peak-rank stat, you get the "Buff" trait, which functions the same way as its opposite. (2 peak stats(str, con)= Buff II (str, con), increasing both stats by 10% permanently.)

In the Alliance a good breakthrough is already seen as the limit by many and as far as he knows only Lukas thanks to his two abilities deduced that there is another type.

According to research papers left behind by ancient professors that he pieced together all Pokemons who after a "good breakthrough" displayed exceptional results in all 6 stat categories either received a new individual talent, genetic altercation or other all in all beneficial traits.

Lukas dubbed it "perfect breakthrough" when a Pokemon advances with all 6 stats at the peak-rank.

To reach this last breakthrough is the goal of limit training.

Lukas is sure that the advantage of it will put him ahead of other trainers at his level, even if advancing will take a bit longer that way.

Making sure Abra understood his explanation and the importance behind it, Lukas turns to Riolu and hands him one of the 6 R.C. Potions.

Riolu upon receiving the vial, doesn't hesitate and opens it up before promptly drinking the entire content in one big gulp.

At first, nothing happens, at least until Riolu releases a small bit of uncontrollable energy.

Seeing that, Lukas isn't surprised since this was supposed to happen, in fact had Riolu taken the whole Rare Candy the amount of released and thereby wasted energy would have been much more.

Half a minute later, accompanied by Riolu releasing a deep breath, the energy abates.

Lukas next uses his ability to check, and indeed all three remaining stats of Riolu rose to the peak-rank as well.

Luckily, raising three stats is the limit of a Rare Candy at Iron-Rank anyway, so nothing was wasted.

After asking whether he is ready for advancement, Lukas takes his bag, searches for a bit and finally takes out an item he prepared extra for this moment.

Pulling it out of his bag, the item in question looks like a metal spike, it is in fact the chest spike from a Silver ranked Lucario.

Of course, there is no way Lukas could afford a Silver-ranked item like that, since they usually go for more than 250,000 PD.

This item right here was a gift from his 3rd cousin.

Taking the spike from Lukas, Riolu gives one last determined nod before he and the item he's holding light up in a bright blue light.

Some may at first confuse this for evolution, but although a Pokemon also lights up when evolving, it does so in a bright white light with different colors mixed in.

Riolus light show takes about one minute until it slowly fades.

"RIOOOLU!"

Having finally advanced to Bronze-Rank, Riolu gives an excited and jubilant cry before jumping around and boxing the air, seemingly trying to gauge its new prowess.

Suddenly, Riolu takes a stance, which Lukas knows all too well from a certain anime, and after gathering energy between his hands shoots out a light blue sphere.

*Boom*

Seeing the damage the move caused to an unfortunate nearby tree and furthermore recognizing it, Lukas already high mood increases even further.

"You learned Aura Sphere Riolu?"

"Rio!"

"Haha, that's great."

Congratulating Riolu together with his other two Pokemon Lukas realizes he hasn't looked at Riolus updated summary yet. 'Lets see...'
