Chapter 5: To Middle School Pt.1

Haruto and I were outside the school gates.

"Before we go, use some of your points into a stat."

"Right... Hmm, I guess agility would be optimal. The same goes for stamina."

Haruto took a moment before finally deciding.

"I will invest in both agility and stamina."

It must have worked since Haruto's body twitched a bit.

"Wow. My body feels lighter."

Haruto gave a light smile before getting into my eyes.

"Alright, let's go."

Both of us dashed in a specific direction with our new speed.

There were only 25 minutes left until the monster's spawn, and due to our target's location, it seemed like we would have to get this done fast so that we don't get attacked by these monsters.

Hopefully, the students over there were reasonable.

In a particular school field, more than a hundred students were on their knees, while many others were standing over those students with smiles and sometimes laughter.

There was one that stood out from the rest.

They were taller and had a bigger build than the others.

One of the students that were standing walked over to that person and spoke to them.

"Ken, who is our next target?"

The one named Ken turned his head to the others and formed a giant grin.

"Hahahaha! Our next target!? Well, it's our good friend 'Ros'!"

On our way to 'To Middle School', Haruto asked an unexpected question.

"Hey Kai."

"Yeah?"

"What do you think will be the future of this world?"

Huh? Why is he asking something like that?

I took a moment of thinking before speaking.

"Haruto, as of right now, the only thing I'm worried about is if my aunt is all right. But to answer your question... skills, monsters, Supreme Beings, and everything else I've seen have always been from a comic or novel."

"In those stories, there will always be something that stands in the way of all the main characters' goals. Some might die, and others live. But what about the other characters of them? Even if you had the most information in the world, something is bound to change."

I did not know why I said that last phrase. Perhaps it was due to a title that I had.

'Regressor'.

Of course, there were other titles that had equal meaning to this one, but the thought of dying and reliving a life where your friends have no idea what was going to happen in the future placed a shiver down my spine.

Even if I get stronger in my next life, leaving my original friends for a new one is... unforgivable.

"That is why... we have to prevent those events from ever happening, and reach an end where nobody is sad, angry, or dead."

"Hmph, it seems that the title of yours, 'Protagonist', wasn't just a simple text in the system."

Haruto smiled as he agreed with what I saying.

"If that is what you want... then I will help you on our journey."

"Thank you."

And I don't ever want to regress in this story!

Honestly, I don't know how many points I used, since all I thought about was raising my stats to the highest, it could be, but there seems to be a limit as of right now.

I didn't have time to worry about that, though. Since we were already at our destination.

"Kai, we are here."

The entrance of 'To Middle School' was empty. Even when looking inside the building from here, I didn't spot a single person.

"Haruto, let's be careful."

He nodded.

We began to walk towards the school building.
