Vice shook his head in disbelief. "But...his only son." He went silent for a moment, and then widened his eyes, before looking in Davi's direction and closing his mouth with an audible click.

He hoped Melissa understood what he was getting at.

"No, no, I wondered about it for a long time, but I'm sure he didn't have any bastards. It wasn't his style." She shrugged. "Maybe it would be better for everyone if he did, but, Rodrigo is traditional, in a way I don't think anyone has been for at least 50 years."

That sounded positively ominous. But Vice believed her, he could still feel the touch of Rodrigo's fingers on his skin, as he examined him like an expensive dog.
