Chapter 88: Spring

Naruto basically spent the entirety of the following month with Akira, he read over a thousand 'books' and learned many things about the previous summoners and the other summoning clans in general, the Leviathan clan was quite different than the Toad clan for example, whereas the toads had 2 elders, a boss, and the great toad sage, meanwhile the Leviathan clan had the strongest member at the top, Ryujin as the boss, and 4 other elders who assumed a leadership position, there were many kinds of leviathans as every 5 decades new ones would be born.

Those types included messenger, shield, attack, spying, and even jutsu-focused Leviathans, messenger and spying types were usually very small in size, usually, between 1 and 2.5 meters in size, the other types didn't have specific sizes as they ranged anywhere from 10 to somewhere around 500 meters large, the 500-meter large one being Ryujin, Naruto also read some more about the battles they had been part of but there were only a few mentions of the leviathans fighting outside of Uzugakure and the summoning realms, one of which was against Isobu the three-tailed beast, which was most likely why Yagura had told him to visit the ancient ruins of Uzugakure.

Another thing that he got to know was that Samehada was forged by Ryujin using her scales as its outer layer and her chakra as the basis, it was then gifted to the first Uzumaki leader and then it was later on stolen from an Uzumaki clan member, a few decades later Mizugakure found Samehada in some random rouge ninjas hands and promptly declared Samehada as one of their treasured swords, that was also when the 7 swordsmen of the mist came into existence, the other 6 swords had actually been forged by someone in Mizu and it would've originally been the 6 swordsmen of the mist but through Samehada it became the 7 swordsmen of the mist, although it was now doomed to be what it was originally meant to be, the 6 swordsmen of the mist, as Naruto didn't plan on giving Mizugakure his sword.

"Sigh, Akira-sensei, do you know when the eggs are hatching?" Naruto asked while sighing boredly, he was spending all his time reading the books of Akira but there weren't many left, at most they would last for another week before he would need to find something else to do.

"Hmm, I'd say there are a few days left at most, I know that you would like to get your personal summon soon but you have to be patient, rushing won't help anyone." Akira replied to Naruto, slightly smirking at him.

Naruto sighed once more and continued reading, a few more days passed until he sensed a large chakra signature approaching him, it was Ryujin.

Naruto looked excitedly at Akira who simply nodded at him, Naruto then promptly bolted through the giant doors that had automatically opened for him.

Naruto then quickly shunshined to the entrance of the giant cave and found Ryujing waiting for him.

"Ryujin-san, I assume it is time for the eggs to hatch?" Naruto asked Ryujin.

"Ah Naruto-san, I was about to head down and get you but you saved me the trouble, but indeed it is time for you to get your personal summon." Ryujin replied.

Naruto then jumped on Ryujins back, who then started flying towards her cave, the hatchery was located deep inside her cave, deep into the ground where a giant chamber stored every egg that was laid by the Leviathans.

They arrived after a few minutes and Naruto could see over 50 eggs, all a bunch of different colors and sizes, the largest one was a red one that had a bunch of black lines running over it giving it a strange appearance.

"Alright Naruto, I want you to close your eyes and let your control over your chakra go, let it spread through the room, let it interact with the eggs, you will know what to do after that." Ryujin smiled at Naruto and left the cave, leaving him alone with the eggs.

Naruto slowly closed his eyes and gradually let go of his chakra, gently spreading it through the room allowing it to interact with the eggs.

It was a weird feeling, Naruto could feel the leviathans inside the eggs reply to his chakra, some replied in a lazy manner, others replied like excitable puppies, but none gave him the feeling that he was looking for, it was as if he instinctively knew that they were not the ones for him.

There were only two more eggs left that he had yet to interact with, the giant red one and another one that was actually the smallest egg of them.

Naruto allowed his chakra to flow to the giant red one first, it replied similarly to many of the other ones, like a puppy that saw a butterfly for the first time, sadly it didn't give him the feeling that he was looking for.

With hope filling his being Naruto directed his chakra to the final egg.

It was quite small, only half a meter in size, all the other eggs were at least one meter large.

But there was something different about this egg, it was a pristine white, almost holy looking, Naruto allowed his chakra to flow and it naturally guided itself to the small leviathan inside of it.

Naruto felt a gentle feeling run through his body, as if he had found something that truly resonated with him, he then realized, this was the leviathan that would become his personal summon, his partner for the rest of his life.

The egg vibrated, a small crack forming on it, slowly but surely Naruto fed the small being inside of it more and more chakra, he could feel the drain on his reserves, the little beast was taking in over 40% of his chakra and it was still absorbing more.

Then, a small pure white head popped out of the egg, its pure white scales gave off a white aura which lit up the dark cave, the leviathan slowly crawled out the egg, instinctively moving through the chakra in the air, Naruto had read that leviathans didn't fly but they swam through the chakra in the air, although some used wings to propel themselves.

But Naruto didn't let himself be distracted.

He opened his eyes and gasped, what he was seeing was something of true beauty, the only thing comparable to it was his own mother.

A small leviathan swam through the air towards Naruto, it had two small wings on it's back, and four small fins on its lower body, it's back was lined with sharp spikes and its face was protected by spikes similar to those of Ryujin.

The little leviathan swam up to Naruto it's head turning to the side with interest "Kyuu?" it made a cute noise, not knowing how to speak just yet.

[Congratulations, the host has successfully bonded with a summon, would you like to name her? Y/N]

Naruto read the notification while rubbing the top of the little leviathan's head, its spikes not hard enough to protect itself yet.

Naruto clicked yes, a name already present in his mind.

"Haru." The name flowed out of Naruto's mouth, the leviathan- no Haru twirled in the air happily hearing her new name, seemingly happy with the choice.

Naruto felt like it was the most fitting name for her, she was a new beginning, a new life on earth, just like in each spring where new flowers bloomed she would bring spring to the world allowing peace to blossom.
