Chapter 27: Moonlight Massacre

Tekku chose this observation spot with a simple purpose in mind: from this spot, he could use his Earth Style: Throbbing Pulse of the World to sense a specific location in the village. The cliff from where Shisui jumped to his death, as this would tell him exactly when the massacre would happen.

Today, he finally felt Itachi's chakra sitting there, right on the edge of that cliff. For six hours, the 12-year-old Uchiha sat there, thinking and contemplating while staring into the distance. And Tekku was secretly with him, keeping an eye on him from the shadows at a safe distance with his sensing technique. All this was only possible because he was aware of the rough timeline.

Feeling Itachi sitting there made him sad. What exactly was going through his head? How did someone feel when they were about to kill their whole family? Tekku had no idea. Even though he would do everything to survive in this world, he was still human, and sadness overtook him. Itachi was one of his favorite characters in his past life when he read that fictional work called Naruto. But now, witnessing this event as a real human in his new reality made him feel all kinds of things.

But a cold voice in the back of his mind always made sure he wouldn't do something stupid. It would happen either way! There is nothing you can do to change it! You are too weak! But you can use this to become stronger in the future! Always reasoning with him to go on, to survive. And both the average student and small kid parts of him knew that it was right.

In the Clan compound, he could only feel Uchihas. No outsider was present, and Tekku knew this was Danzo's and his Root's handiwork. This evening, some contractors were coming in to build new facilities for the headquarters of the Military Police Force. That's why all the members of the Police Force were early at home. Of course, this was a fake order created by Danzo, but Tekku overheard some Police Force members talking about it.

But now, every Uchiha was in the compound, every Uchiha besides Sasuke. It was strange since Sasuke wasn't the only Academy student from the Uchiha Clan. Until Tekku remembered, didn't he train with an Academy teacher, Shurikenjutsu or something? What a coincidence! Probably also Danzo's handiwork. Someone being able to manipulate events so convincingly from the shadows was scary. Tekku would never make the mistake of underestimating Danzo and letting his guard down. Even if he knew that he tried to stab a Susanoo with a kunai in the future during his fight with Sasuke.

Finally, he felt Itachi move, jumping towards the Uchiha Compound. "It was starting!" realized Tekku. His first target was a chakra signature Tekku was familiar with since he befriended that person through Hana: Izumi Uchiha, a genin who graduated in the same year as him, who was in the same class as Hana and Itachi. First, Itachi lured Izumi out of her house, leaving her mother alone. Itachi moved instantly, knocking her out with genjutsu as his chakra didn't even touch her before Izumi returned.

It was in this moment that the feeling of Itachi's chakra changed. The change originated from his eyes, becoming much colder and stronger. A large amount of Itachi's chakra was consumed by this. "The Mangekyo Sharingan," realized Tekku as he felt that change. It lasted only for one moment, and Izumi was gone. Her chakra signature disappeared. Death.

For one moment, Itachi stopped laying Izumi onto the ground before he turned to her mother. Her chakra signature vanished next. And Itachi stepped out of their house. Tekku felt sorrow but hardened his feelings. It was happening now. Izumi was the first Uchiha to die today, but many would follow.

Outside of the house, another chakra signature appeared before he felt it touching the ground. "Obito Uchiha is finally here. Hopefully, they will do this like in the original timeline," he thought as he felt both soon-to-be last Uchihas besides Sasuke talk.

After a few minutes of talking, Obito's chakra vanished from that spot, instantly appearing on the west side of the Clan compound, starting with his bloody mission. Killing one Uchiha Clan member after the other. Meanwhile, Itachi started doing the same from the east. One chakra signature after the other disappeared. And Tekku felt every last bit of it while keeping an eye on both of them. He could feel some Root Anbu keeping watch from outside the compound, but they weren't expecting anyone from the outside. No, they were making sure that nobody escaped.

Stretching his senses to their limit in an attempt to feel a specific signature, but it was in vain. No matter how he tried, he wasn't able to feel the unique signature of Zetsu. It seemed the mastermind of the Shinobi world could hide his chakra signature perfectly. It seemed like he was unable to complete one of his goals for tonight: getting a feel of Zetsu's signature. But it only told him that normal chakra-sensing techniques weren't enough. He would need a trump card.

But it didn't matter. Feeling that Itachi and Obito had progressed far enough, Tekku jumped from his hiding spot in the trees, landing on the ground while keeping his chakra suppressed with seals. The Root agents stationed around the compound never expected someone to be aware of what was going to happen and didn't check the surroundings for anyone hidden. So they never spotted him.

"Earth Style: Hiding like a Mole technique," muttered Tekku after forming the needed hand signs and disappeared into the earth. Moving through the ground towards the largest collection of chakra signatures he felt vanishing at the same time.

He felt that Itachi was a true genius on a completely different level. Not because of his techniques or his Mangekyou Sharingan. No, simply because of his powerful combat awareness. Disposing of the Uchiha Clan while perfectly rationing his chakra, only using the Mangekyou Sharingan while fighting the strongest of the Uchiha.

And this was exactly a fact that Tekku was abusing. He wanted to collect not only some Sharingans, but whole bodies of Uchiha Clan members. Not random Clan members, but the strongest ones. So every time Itachi used his Mangekyou Sharingan, Tekku would remember that and move through the ground towards the specific building, collecting all the bodies there. He collected the bodies of many of the top members of the Clan before he felt Itachi move towards his parents' house. As Sasuke's chakra appeared in the vicinity, he knew his time was up, and the Hokage's Anbu would soon arrive while Itachi would escape the village.

Knowing he couldn't collect the bodies of Itachi's parents since either Itachi or later Sasuke would be there until the Anbu arrived, Tekku made his way towards the east side of the compound. Although he couldn't get Fugaku's Mangekyou Sharingan, if he even had it, he would at least get the bodies of Izumi and her mother. They could become useful in the future.

Moving through the ground, he arrived at their house and saw the fallen trashcan that Itachi probably used to lure Izumi out. He stepped inside, finding the lifeless form of Izumi. Unlike at the other places, there wasn't a single stain of blood on her. She died from Itachi's Tsukuyomi, peacefully having lived her whole life out with him in the illusion.

After hesitating for a moment, he picked up her body and sealed it in one of his Corpse Storage Seals before doing the same with her mother. Not wasting any time, he walked out of the house and moved into the ground, leaving the compound unseen. Soon, the Anbu, the Hokage, and Danzo would be here, and he wasn't confident in being able to hide from all of them. At the same time, another young boy, a 12-year-old Anbu Captain, left the house of his parents where he had just killed them as he stared at the beautiful moon, cursing it from his heart.
