A day had passed since the last reveal of Mizuki and his subsequent questioning.

It was a new day, Mizukage had woken up, understanding Yagura was manipulated, rebel army did not denounce him immediately, so Mie wasn't the Mizukage just yet.

Mizuki too woke up in his temporary home, as he stretched, today was the day, they will interrogate Yagura.

Mizuki would just get the results, he cannot participate in the interrogation, now that his identity as Konoha's next Hokage was revealed.

* Knock knock *

But it seemed his plans to relax were thrown out of the window.

' Hmm? Mei? '

Thought Mizuki as he walked upto the door and opened it.

" Anata! "

Mei jumped on him, as she hugged him tightly.

Mizuki raised his eyebrows at that, but hugged her back.

" Anata! It's been decided, I am coming with you! "

Mizuki laughed as he shook his head.

Mei was just upto her antics again.

" Hai hai Mei san, you can come with me, now tell me how is it that you visited me this time of the day. "

Mei smiled as she looked up.

" Mizukage sama is calling you. He has something to say. "

This got Mizuki's mind spinning, Mei called Yagura Mizukage sama. That could only mean one thing.

Yagura was back in power.

Now how this happened, Mizuki needed to know, this was different from canon, there Yagura had been broken out of genjutsu but decided to pass on after fathering a child.

It seems he has something else in mind, something has changed due to Mizuki being present.

" I see, let's go, why keep Mizukage sama waiting. "

Giving Mizuki a smile, Mei rushed with him towards the Mizukage office.

* Swish *

Flickering infront of the office, Mei nodded to Mizuki then proceeded to lead him in.

* Knock knock *

" Come in.. "

A tired voice called from within the office.

Wearing a sad look due to the health of the Mizukage, Mei entered the office and Mizuki followed along.

Looking up from a letter on his table, Yagura with dark circles around his eyes saw Mizuki, pursing his lips, he spoke in a tired but determined voice.

" You are Konoha's Spectre..? I thank you for freeing me. "

Yagura got up as he bowed to Mizuki.

Mizuki smiled as he simply let the man do as he wanted, he wasn't about to be a fool and try to get him up or something, when a kage does something, you let him do the thing.

Yagura stiffly straightened himself as he walked upto Mizuki.

Looking up due to his size restriction, he asked Mizuki in a clam tone.

" Spectre, do you speak the truth when you say Third Hokage is under the same genjutsu as I was..? "

Mizuki looked at Yagura as he internally frowned, something was up with the way Yagura brought up this question. Something was wrong here, but what..?

Deciding to think as he spoke, Mizuki nodded.

" It is my sinking suspicion. I have no proof just yet. If I am correct in my understanding, as Mizukage sama's bloodthirsty nature was unnaturally amplified so is Hokage's sama's peaceful nature. "

Yagura looked down, as he let out a sigh.

" I see. "

Putting his hands behind his back, Yagura spoke distantly.

" From first hand experience, I can tell you, when you are under that genjutsu, your amplified emotion overrides your logic, as time goes by, this phenomenon only increases."

Looking back at Mizuki again, he smirked as he spoke.

" I can confirm for you that you speak the truth, Third Hokage is under a genjutsu, I can tell. "

Mizuki frowned, his feelings of something was wrong intensified.

Yagura let out a chuckle as he walked back to his desk and picked up the letter he was reading.

" Do you know what this is Spectre? "

Mizuki shook his head as he was trying to understand the source of his unease.

" This, is a letter form Konoha. "

Shaking it infront of them both, Yagura spoke of it's contents.

" It tells of a statement, the one named Spectre is a traitor, he wants to initiate war, Konoha pleads Mist to kill the spectre or send him to them as they will take care of him, for the war crime he has committed. "

Looking at the frowning Mizuki, Yagura spoke with calmness.

" What do you think..? "

Mizuki didn't reply, he was thinking how this happened, this wasn't the Hokage's words, so it was Danzo, now Danzo can't do this alone, this meant Hokage betrayed him.

' I see, for peace he decided to sacrifice me..? '

Yagura smiled looking at Mizuki's expression.

" So you understand the implications. Now tell me Spectre, what is it you think I should do..? "

Mizuki didn't speak immediately, neither did Mei.

Mei didn't speak as she was allowed here to watch, she was openly being nurtured as the next Mizukage by Yagura, she only needed to listen right now, and Mizuki didn't speak as he knew Yagura already had something in mind.

He was only checking if Mizuki was worth the trouble.

So with a smile, Mizuki spoke freely.

" Do what is required Mizukage sama, if Mist helps Konoha, Konoha will be grateful. "

Yagura smirked, this was what he wanted, a promise from the next Hokage, this man, was most certainly the next Hokage, Mizukage had no doubt.

A promise from him, meant a promise from Konoha.

" I see, if that is so, Mist shall help Konoha. Third Hokage is under genjutsu this letter carries no meaning. "

Crushing the letter with a water ball jutsu, Mizukage let the dregs fall down as an anbu flickered and took them away.

" Now Spectre, is there anything you want to add to this? It's your village after all. "

Mizuki smiled, Yagura wanted his stance on the matter.

So nodding his head, Mizuki gave Mist the opportunity they wanted.

" There is a Chunin exam about to happen, I in my authority can invite Mist to attend. "

" Excellent. "

Yagura spoke as he tapped his desk, Mizuki has given them a good reason to penetrate Konoha, this will be their ticket inside.

" I see, you can go now, Spectre, I look forward to seeing you take charge. "

Nodding to Yagura, Mizuki left the office as Mei stayed.

Watching Mizuki leave, Mei looked at his back, as she turned towards Yagura again.

Who was panting on his desk, as his hands were trembling.

Going ahead and picking him up Mei supported Yagura as she brought him a glass of water.

Looking on with worry, Mei spoke to Yagura.

" Mizukage sama, please don't push yourself, you have just recovered from physical trauma and years of spiritual trauma have left it's mark on you, you need to rest! "

To Mei's words Yagura just laughed as he coughed in between.

Taking deep breaths to handle his breathlessness, Yagura gulped the glass of water as he spoke with a tired voice.

" It's funny, anyone in your position would want me out as soon as possible and take office. And look at you, still worried about the Mizukage. "

Mei shook her head.

" I only wanted the Mist to survive, this isn't your fault Mizukage sama. "

Yagura gave a wry smile, he knew, how bad his reputation has gotten.

Truthfully, he himself wanted to leave his post when he was broken out of genjutsu and reality set in.

He would have given Mei office and maybe father a child with his official wife, after that he would have perished, to atone for the sins of blood mist era, that era should end with him.

' That was the plan, but Spectre, his information changed things. '

Yagura couldn't end himself to atone anymore, because not only was Mizuki a person of significant threat to Mist, with only him as his opponent, but also because Mist isn't the only victim.

This changes things completely, if Mist is not the only one being manipulated, the first Ninja village is being manipulated too, then it won't be the Ninja villages who are weak, but the enemy being too strong.

One kage being controlled and two kages being controlled are completely different things with very different implications.

Taking a deep breath, to calm his shaking hands, Yagura said to Mei.

" Haah.. I know you mean well, just like the Spectre, you both act against the Kage of your village only for the betterment of the village, not for the position of Kage. "

Looking towards Mei, Yagura smiled

" Mist is proud to have you as it's successor. "

Looking at his shaking hands, Yagura closed his fist.

" I cannot last long, the years have taken it's toll on me, it's up you in the future, I will support Mist for as long as I can, but please, keep in mind, you are of as much importance to Mist as me right now. Understand? "

Mei nodded with a heavy heart, yes, this was their Mizukage sama, this is the Mist she wanted to protect.

As Mie left the office, she was smiling wryly.

' How ironic, we couldn't wait of Yagura to die, now we want him to live forever. '

People like her who forgave Yagura or people who didn't forgive him, everyone currently wanted him to live.

Because of Mizuki's existence.

He was too much pressure, he was too strong, nobody but Yagura could even hope to stop him.

That coupled with Mist having a chance to cleanse their name by pointing towards Konoha and telling the same fate was their too, this created a scenario where everyone wanted Yagura to continue his reign.

Doesn't matter your opinion on him, options were limited, he was the only one worthy and strong enough to keep Mist safe.

' It's funny, how tide changes, one second everyone was calling for Yagura's reign to be overthrown, the next they think of him as their sole protector. '

But so was the life of Ninja's.

All Mei could do, was try her best to protect her homeland and hopefully marry Mizuki afterwards.

' Two kages being married.. this shouldn't be a problem right..? Ugh, politics. '

Whatever, she will now go to Mizuki, it matters not what the future holds, currently, she can go lie down in his arms, that much is enough for her.
