ch. 9 Battle For The Mind

This sentence seems to be said to Itachi

'While we are uchiha, we're Konoha's Uchiha, they are one entity...' Itachi was lost in thought, enamored by the idea.

While Itachi was stunned, Chiba suddenly raised his head and flicked Itachi's forehead in full view.

"What are you doing Chiba!?" Itachi whisper yelled as he rubbed his forehead.

A smile appeared on Sarutobi Hiruzen's face as he had seen the look in Itachi's eyes and knew that he could get the son of the Uchiha patriarch under his control.

At that moment, Sarutobi Hiruzen seemed to see a familiar figure in Itachi. The other Uchiha who didn't favor their clan but rather the village, the descendants of Uchiha Kagami, Uchiha Shisui!

'This is a good start!' hiruzen thought to himself.

Perceiving the change in Itachi, Chiba let out a sigh of despair.

'Maybe this is just a case of nature vs nurture. It could be that Itachi's wasnt entirely brainwashed into favoring the village above all but also naturally felt this way....At this rate, I'll have to kill my best friend....No! I Refuse to let this happen!'

"Master hokage, may i ask a question?" Chiba said, stepping towards the Hokage with his cane in hand, appearing more fragile than usual.

He leaned on his cane and quietly stood before the Hokage, the difference in height forming a sharp contrast between each other.

"Of course child, what do you wish to say?" Sarutobi Hiruzen said, a grandfatherly smile plastered upon his face.

"If Konoha is just one big family, why do you allow the main branch of the Hyuga clan to enslave their branch family? They use curse marks to control the branch familys actions and kill them in an instant if they disobey. If the children of other clans are also Konoha's children, how could Konoha allow their family to be enslaved and suffer like this?" Chiba spoke in an inquisitive and innocent voice, not one of accusation.

The smile in Hiruzens face twitched, forcing his smile to not faulter.

"The caged bird mark is for the hyugas benefit, it destroys their eyes after death, making the hyugas not a target on the battlefield for those who wish to steal their eyes. It just so happens that this seal also gives the main family those controls." Hiruzen said, getting nods from the gullible children who listened except for the hyuga children who felt slight anger at the hokages dismissal.

" If that's the case, then why don't we Uchiha not use such a seal to prevent theft? It's seems to be th-" Chiba was cut off as Hiruzen spoke.

"Child, you can come to my office to ask any question, but I must return must return to my office to lead the war as quick as possible." Hiruzen said, giving a slight glare at Chiba even though he still retained his grandfatherly smile.

Chiba gained a rather disappointed face as he nodded at the Hokage, who continued in with his speech. Chiba was forcing himself not to smile as he knew he achieved his goal as Itachi stared at him.

Itachi knew his best friend, he is usually silent but when he speaks it often for a reason.

As they were walking back to where they previously stood, Itachi couldn't hold it in any longer and had to ask.

"Chiba-san, did you… just want to tell me something?" Itachi said in curiosity

"Look around." Chiba said, as he continued walking

Itachi immediately stopped in his tracks and looked at their surroundings. The gazes that he got for being a Uchiha had not diminished because of Hokage's words, but actually increased! He heard the children from other clans and civilians whispering about them.

"Even when they are born blind, the Uchiha still get special attention. Tsk"

"The Uchiha have always received the higher ranked classes and resources. Even blind they still get recognized by the Hokage."

Among the crowd, Itachi heard the jealous and hateful words.

"Itachi, do you know? Even if Konoha was one big family, which it's not, not all family members are treated equally or fairly. Like i said, looked at the Hyuga branch family and I dare you to be so shameless enough to call that fair or just!" Chiba said said he arrived at his spot, Itachi right behind him.

"There are too many unjust and vile deeds that Konoha does within it's villages to dare call itself a family. Remember Itachi, pruning the dying leafs off a tree won't fix the problem, you must start at the rotten roots!" After saying that, Chiba stopped speaking and allowed Itachi to think about what he had said.

Chiba knew the Uchiha had their problems, they were prideful and arrogant, if it involved the people they loved or cared about then all logical thinking goes out the window. The Uchiha had their many flaws, but they aren't evil and deserving of a genocide!

The longer they get discriminatated against, the more hateful they become, knowing that their children and nephews are going to be born into a lower position of society with no future.

Deep underground the villages of Konoha, there existed tunnels and rooms that housed and trained the root ninja, the Shinobi that were tricked and brainwashed into being sacrificial pawns for the village.

Sitting infront of a desk, Danzo was looking at the files before him. A picture of Itachi was on one file and Chiba on another, faced with two special Uchihas, Danzo was certain he could atleast get one.

Uchiha Shisui who he liked last time, was still in Anbu after all, so this time Danzo wants to get one no matter what. His roots need a pair of Sharingan, in order to learn the unique jutsu from the people he seemed a threat, before killing them.

Whether it is to him or to the person in front of him, they both had an interested..

"Weren't you looking into the Uchiha? I have some information here!" In his cold eye, there was a look of expectation in Danzo.

Orochimaru walked out of the darkness and into the light infront of Danzos desk.

"Danzo, you ssstill have an obsession with Sharingan?" Orochimaru said, his snake eyes staring into Danzos one eye.

"No one would reject that kind of power, would they?"

That's right, given the chose between having a sharingan and not, who would refuse them.

Both of them are people who covet Uchiha's power, but for different reasons.

"That's right, but the only one that I want this time is Uchiha Itachi." Orochimaru said.

"That's the child of the patriarch of the Uchiha clan. Don't think you can attack him casually."

"Even if I don't go after this Itachi, he'll end up joining the root like shisui. Your root can't get ahold of him."

"I'm not talking about Uchiha Itachi! I'm talking about the more intriguing Uchiha, Chiba Uchiha."

Orochimaru paused, a little surprised.

"That kid… isn't he blind?" Orochimaru said in doubt.

"Its because he can't see that hes worth studying."

Walking into the ninja academy on the first day, Chiba was getting stared at by everyone.

Everyone already knew about the blind Uchiha but the kindness from Hokage pushed him to the forefront of everyone's mind.

Sitting in his sit next to Chiba, itachi stared at the surrounding eyes silently. Sure enought as Chiba said, the children stared at the Uchiha with jealously or anger

'Can Konoha and Uchiha really be unified? Is Konoha just Konoha, and Uchiha only Uchiha?'

Itachi did not understand, the hokage's brought them Infront of everyone to tell them to treat us as equals and they we are on big family, but he only made the situation worse. A question appeared in Itachi's mind.

'Could the Hokage known that this is what would've happened when he he picked us from the crowd and brought before them?'

Opening the textbook distributed by the Ninja School. Itachi suddenly remembered that Chiba couldn't see it, and scooted closer to Chiba.

"Chiba-san, let me read it for you…" Itachi said as he opened the book for him

"No need, I know what's written on it." Chiba knew the past and future greater than anybody in the world thanks to watching the show. He didn't care about knowing which random Shinobi created the water walking technique or the wind slash jutsu. And he certainly didn't care for knowing the propaganda they peddle in the books.

The first class was called [Konoha History] and the first book is called [Chronicles of Konoha]!

Opening Chapter 1: Establishing Konoha

The first chapter wrote about how the senju clan wanted to stop warring with the Uchiha, and so they put for the idea to unite and become the Konoha village.

Everything about Uchiha was written in a couple of sentences, basically summing up that the Uchiha merely went along with the senju.

This was Hiruzens and Danzos handy work, they are trying to erase the uchihas significance from history!
