40 Chapter 40: Tsunade the new kage

"Today we're here to witness the granddaughter of the first Hokage, Niece of the second Hokage, student of the third Hokage, one of the three sannin becoming the fifth Hokage. Everyone, give it up for Tsunade Senjuu." Oden said, but he looked like he couldn't be bothered.

But Oden was excited to finally end his career as the acting Hokage.

The longer he kept the hat, the more worried he got that the people would refuse to let him go.

As Oden stood on a platform, where he had Tsunade and Jiraiya on his right Hinata on his left, trying to keep a stoic face, but it was obvious that she was nervous.

Hiruzen was behind Oden with the advisors beside him.

Oden looked at all the people that had come to see the inauguration of the fifth Hokage.

Everyone looked excited and was cheering.

"Tsunade Senju, Do you swear to protect Konoha with your all?" Oden asked.

"Yes, I swear by my family name!" Tsunade said as she stepped forward

Oden put the Hokage Hat and cape on her and everyone started cheering.

"Then from now on you're the pillar of protection of the leaf." Oden said as he stepped Backward, giving her the scene.

Hiruzen lightly tapped on his arm and hinted to him that they should sneak away as Tsunade tells her speech.

Looking around he saw that everyone was focusing on her and wouldn't notice if he disappeared.

Oden signaled to Hinata that she should follow without making any Commotion and she nodded.

They all sneakingly stepped back behind the advisors and then when no one was looking, they escaped.

"Old man, shouldn't you be present in these matters?" Oden asked as they walked back through the empty streets.

"Hmm maybe, shouldn't you as well?" Hiruzen countered with a smirk.

"I'm newly wed, I should spend time with my wife." Oden said as he hugged Hinata toward himself while they walked.

Hinata stared down as she got shy when her husband showed their closeness in front of others.

"Then, can this old man invite you for some food?" Hiruzen asked, wanting to spend time with the lad he had taken a liking to.

"Sorry old man, but we're eating in the Hyuga compound today, but if you were feeling bored you could always make my grandpa company as he likes to fish and play shogi." Oden said.

Hiruzen's eyes twitched, when he was Hokage... He got lots of complaints about a certain old grandpa that was always bothering people.

"On second thought, I think I had some unfinished clan business," Hiruzen said before hurrying away.

Oden didn't care that Hiruzen left them as he continued walking with his wife.

"Hinata, let's keep walking before we visit your father." Oden said as he took her hand.

"Okay.." She said as she held his hand and followed him.

After an hour of walking they finally arrived at the Hyuga compound, and at the gates, stood a one-armed guard.

When the guard noticed Oden and Hinata be a.ply bowed and let them inside without trouble.

Since Hinata had married Oden, people had started treating her completely differently, especially in the Hyuga compound.

"Welcome back!" Hiaashi said as he invited his daughter and son-in-law, inside his mansion.

When they arrived at the dining table Hiashi called for Hanabi and Neji.

Both of which arrived with different expressions.

Hanabi looked like she had swallowed a bitter pill, and Neji looked like his stash had been found.

Oden simply smiles when he sees their reaction to seeing him again.

"Ah, little sister-in-law, shouldn't you greet your elder brother and sister with respect?" He said as he saw that she kept silent.

"..." She ignored him.

"Hanabi!" Hiashi said.

"Welcome, elder brother, welcome elder sister." She properly greeted the one with the most status first, even though Hinata was her biological sister.

"You must have missed me dearly since last time. It's good that you didn't die out of misery." Oden said with a tone that sounded serious. But inside he was snickering.

Before little Hanabi could exode in anger, Oden turned his sights to Neji, giving him the look that said 'Come on, greet your older bro.'

"Welcome... Back..." Neji forced himself to say, looking like he didn't want to meet Oden again.

Oden's lips gained the smallest hint of a smirk.

Hiashi saw how Oden teased the two and felt like the grandson and grandfather pair of the Zaraki clan were a bit too similar.

"Knock Knock!" all of them stopped as they heard so a very loud knock on the door.

"HEY BRAT, I KNOW YOU'RE HOME, STOP HIDING AND FACE ME AT SHOGI, I'LL GIVE YOU A HANDICAP THIS TIME. AS THE CLAN HEAD OF HYUGA DON'T YOU HAVE ANY SHAME??! COME OUT BEFORE I SEND MY GRANDSON AT YOU!" An old man's voice was heard.

Oden instantly lost his footing and luckily Hinata caught him before he could fall.

Everyone turned their sight to Oden.

"Ah right, I invited my grandfather as well... I should probably go and receive him." Oden lied through his teeth. He felt like hiding his face for a few days.

Hiashi simply nodded, pretending to believe him.

Oden turned around and went to open the door.

When he opened the door he found his old and short grandpa standing there looking angry.

When Akai noticed Oden, he suddenly lost the colour on his face.

"What are you doing here?" Akai nervously asked his grandson in surprise.

"No, what are YOU doing here..." Oden asked with a slight threat in his voice.

"Erm... I was close by and heard that you were here so I thought I would say hi." Akai said, lying through his teeth.

Both stared at each other before Oden sighed and let him inside.

"Don't make more trouble or else." Oden warned.

"Hmph, in my time, we used to respect our elders." Akai whispered in a grump.

"In your time, you had elders worthy of respect." Oden answered.

"Tsk." Akai was pissed that his plans had all fallen because of his grandson.
