Although the battle resulted in numerous casualties on the side of the Sand Shinobi, Aizen did not linger in the aftermath for long.
Surprisingly, the battle concluded much quicker than anticipated, catching even Aizen off guard with Obito's straightforward release of the Three Tails from Yagura's body.
Fortunately, most of the surviving wounded sustained minor injuries that did not hinder their journey. Sadly, many of the seriously injured perished in action. However, the overall losses for the Sand Shinobi remained within an acceptable range.
After a week of training in Kirigakure, which was under the control of Terumi Mei, Aizen took charge of leading the army back to their village. As they departed, Aizen requested the resignation of Terumi Mei and the other current Mist Shinobi executives, signifying his intention to leave Mist Shinobi.
During the journey, Terumi Mei couldn't help but wonder about Aizen's true feelings for her. The itchiness of curiosity drove her almost to the point of madness. She attempted to hint at her desires multiple times, hoping to gain insight into Aizen's emotions.
However, no matter how Terumi Mei hinted, Aizen simply responded with a smile. This indifferent attitude towards everyone only fueled Terumi Mei's passion further. She couldn't help but feel that Aizen's affection was solely directed towards herself, a sentiment shared by others who believed that he only showed kindness to the person he loved.
After successfully driving Aizen out of the Land of Water, Terumi Mei anxiously awaited the answer she desperately sought. Standing on the shore, she watched as the Sand Shinobi's army retreated, but her mind remained unsettled. Ao, who was concerned for her well-being, received another intense glare from Terumi Mei.
Days turned into weeks, and the news of Yagura's death, the infamous mastermind behind the "Blood Mist Village," spread like wildfire. Alongside this shocking revelation came the announcement of Terumi Mei's appointment as the new Mizukage. These developments sent shockwaves throughout the peaceful Ninja World, putting all major nations on high alert.
As the newly appointed Mizukage, Terumi Mei faced numerous challenges. With her own shadow under control, she refrained from divulging any information about the Akatsuki organization. It was an arduous task, as she needed to establish her authority and consolidate her power, especially considering her young age of less than 25 years.
However, despite being geographically separated by the sea from the Ninja Continent, the Land of Water's actions still had a significant impact on one particular village — Konoha. The potential threat of Mist Shinobi crossing the sea and landing in the Land of Fire made the village and its ally, the Wind Kingdom, particularly wary.
In the midst of these events, rumors began to circulate about a certain individual named Namikaze Minato. This name, reminiscent of the Third Ninja War, started to reach the ears of senior leaders in major countries.
Aizen, the name that Ohnoki, the Fourth Raikage, and others had heard in passing. What they knew was that Aizen became the principal figure in command of the Sand Shinobi after the retirement of the Fourth Kazekage, Rasa. Essentially, he was the second-in-command of the Sand Shinobi.
Initially, Aizen was not taken seriously by these prominent figures and shadows. However, when news spread that he had defeated the Three Tails, it caused a stir among high-level ninja villages and even the shadows themselves. The rarity of Kage-level individuals was already well-known, let alone those who could defeat a tailed beast.
Based on the knowledge of other ninja, Rasa was not considered capable of defeating a tailed beast. His success in subduing Shukaku multiple times was attributed to his mastery of the Iron Sand technique. Therefore, Aizen's ability to defeat the Three Tails undoubtedly placed him above Rasa in terms of power.
Third Tsuchikage, Ohnoki, remained silent but made a mental note of Aizen's name. As a series of events unfolded, the Rock Shinobi observed as bystanders, unaffected by the situation.
On the other hand, the Fourth Raikage, Ay, displayed great interest in Aizen. He expressed his desire to fight him if given the opportunity.
Meanwhile, after learning that Terumi Mei had successfully reclaimed Kirigakure from Yagura, Sarutobi Hiruzen dispatched Nara Shikahisa and others as the Konoha envoy to Kirigakure.
I hope that the Land of Fire and the Land of Water will form an alliance, but Terumi Mei repeatedly declined the proposal. Her reasoning was that the two countries were too far apart and there was no need for an alliance.
Upon learning this, Sarutobi Hiruzen managed to maintain a sense of calm, while Utatane Koharu and Mitokado Homura became angry. They couldn't comprehend how the Land of Fire and the Land of Water were considered too far apart for an alliance, yet the Sand Shinobi, who were even farther away, weren't being considered for an alliance.
"In light of Fifth Mizukage's repeated refusals to join Konoha, are Sand Shinobi and Mist Shinobi planning something?" Utatane Koharu asked with a frown, voicing the concerns shared by Konoha's senior officials and the high-levels of other ninja villages.
Sarutobi Hiruzen pondered for a moment, then replied, "Perhaps we are worrying too much. Sand Shinobi is known to be the poorest village among the five major countries. Their assistance to the Fifth Mizukage was likely driven by their need for money and resources. After all, Rasa's character..."
Sarutobi Hiruzen's words were not explicit, but Utatane Koharu and Mitokado Homura grasped the underlying meaning. They shared a disdainful view of Rasa, considering him a cautious and timid figure due to his own lack of strength. No one believed that someone like Rasa would dare to take any action against Konoha, the number one village among the Five Great Nations.
"You might be right. We should give it more thought," sighed Mitokado Homura.
Considering that Mist Shinobi were unwilling to form an alliance, it would be inappropriate for Konoha to force them into an alliance against their will. The consultants contemplated this situation as they prepared to leave the office.
However, just as they were about to depart, two Konoha Chunin burst into the Hokage's office in a state of panic and anger.
"Something terrible has happened! Hokage-sama! Naruto has defaced the face sculptures of the Hokage-sama!" they exclaimed.
"And this time, he used paint again!"
Upon hearing the recurring news, Sarutobi Hiruzen let out a deep sigh as he took a heavy puff from his pipe, rendered speechless by the situation.
Meanwhile, Aizen had successfully led his army back to Sunagakure, and Kirigakure had a new shadow in charge, giving the appearance of calm being restored. However, only Aizen himself knew the truth.
Unbeknownst to everyone else, the Shinobi world was on the verge of veering off into an unpredictable and tumultuous direction.
