Kinsley always wins

MONDAY. 8:43 AM.

About a second before the whistle sounds, I lift up my stick and hit him on the shoulder twice and he falls to the ground.

There are no rules, right? Good, once again I can make my own rules. Everyone looks surprised by my action which gives me an advantage. I quickly run to the player with the ball, steal it from him and begin running towards their goalie. By the time they realize what I'm actually doing, I'm already at the goalie and for a moment he looks like he's the only one with a heart because he goes easy on me when I flashed him a smile. And I score.

The field came alive with people's screams. My team mates scream the loudest and run up to me, other players on the bleachers all cheer and I giggled. It's actually not hard to play. I'm glad I decided to do this, I've never done something which causes a large group of people to celebrate. And I feel very good about that.

"Not bad, mushroom." Lennon says, patting my head like I'm a puppy and I laugh.

"Okay, I think I like you now." Ty says and I laugh more at him.

Then Adrian walks closer to me with his eyes bright with amazement and surprise, "That was truly amazing. I had no idea you'd do that."

I swear, my smile got 10 centimeters wider. It's finally working. Who knew I just had to play Lacrosse to have Adrian's attention.

I spot the opposing players with sour looks. I then frown at the player, who I had hit with my stick.

"I'd give you the middle finger if I was allowed to." I yell angrily at him. He only rolled his eyes and continue walking away with his hand on his injured shoulder. Oh, I really hope it's injured. He deserves it.

I then spot Jake 2 meters away from me and I can't help but smile victoriously. I slowly walk confidently towards him as his green eyes stay locked on my face, holding an emotion I can't read. When I reach him, I go on my tip toes, positioning my lips by his ear—just to annoy him.

"See that? I'm awesome." I whisper in his ear with a huge smile on my face. I am Kinsley Bardot, I can handle anything; he should know that.

A small smirk forms on his face and he looks to me. I gasp at the intensity in his eyes when they fall to my lips, subconsciously, mine fall to his and for the first time, I feel the world fade away—which should only happen in books, not in real life. The sounds of the boys cheering can not be heard anymore, the only thing I can hear right now is my heart beat, beating faster than normal. I begin to take details of his face; he really is pale, I wonder if he's born that way. My eyes gently move to his hair, the sun reflecting beautifully on him, complimenting the color of his hair and daring me to put my fingers through his wavy curls. His eyelashes casting shadows on his face, I move my eyes to his lips just in time to see him lick them.

Then, it's like the angel of common sense knocks some sense into me and I bounce away from him.

What in the planet of fairies just happened?!

I don't wait for his reaction.

"Well. T-that's it. Just wanted t-to say I'm awesome. Bye."

I walked faster than I've ever walked in my entire life just to get away from him. My heart hasn't stopped beating so fast, I feel chills moving through my body and I feel a sudden rush of Adrenalin; I feel hot, like in a pot getting boiled alive.

"What's wrong with me?" I ask myself, patting my cheeks to feel them very hot.

The whistle blows and the game starts.

What happened with Jake really messed up my mind. I kept on staring at him every now and then while he just continued playing like nothing happened at all, without even throwing a glance my way as he put his whole focus in the game.

I, on the other hand, don't. And this time, it hurt as duck.

Someone runs into me –I don't blame him, I was holding the ball for a really long time— and I tumble to the ground. I scream out loud when I fall hard on my ankle, I hear a 'crack' sound and the next thing I feel is pure pain in my left ankle. I shut my eyes tightly as I grab it, tears filling my eyes. The pain's so bad to the extent my head begins to hurt. But thankfully as the second passes by, the pain starts to subside.

I hear someone chuckle. "Girls are so weak." Ralph smirks at me.

Ralph.

Another type of Ty.

The same personality but Ralph's more aggressive.

My mind comes to dwell on his statement, 'Girls are so weak.' I glare at him. 'What I would do to his girlfriend, Lara, he can't even imagine.' I think to myself. He only smirks and walks off.

I hear coach blow his annoying whistle, then the sound of people rushing towards me thinking I'm badly injured comes next. Its pain isn't so bad anymore, honestly. It's one of those pain one gets that feels so unbearable for the first five seconds but later on, it doesn't hurt that much. But of course, coach will feel threatened, thinking a student got hurt during his watch.

But among all the people I thought will run to me first when I get hurt, I'm surprised he's the one who reached me first—after he specifically said he won't come to help.

He drops down on his knees, panting hard with worry deep in his eyes. "Where is it?" He begins to look round my body in search of damage while I just sit there, staring at him.

"You sounded like you got hurt really bad, you grabbed your ankle, is it okay?" He reaches for my left leg as uncontrolled words spill out of his mouth. "Is it the left leg? Are you really okay? I told you, you shouldn't have played." Then he looks up at me. "Why won't you just listen to me?" His tone gets angry.

My eyes slowly form a deadly glare. He said he wouldn't come to help, yet he did.

Jake did.

He ran faster than anyone else on the field, like he had known me for a long time and that I mattered. But he's partially the reason I'm on the ground now; he keeps on doing things that confuse me too much and I don't like it when I get confused. I simply don't like him.

I swat his hand away from my once-hurt ankle. "I'm fine." I spit.

That's when everyone reaches me and Adrian falls down at the other side, concern written all over his facial features.

"Kinsley, that looked like a bad fall, are you okay?" Adrian asks.

"Bardot. You good?" Coach stands in front of me.

I take a while to think about my next response.

"Ralph! What was that? You're benched for the next game." Coach hollers at Ralph.

"You said there were no rules." Ralph defends, somewhere in this mini crowd surrounding me.

"You went too far." Coach curtly says.

"Kinsley, are you okay? Are you hurt?" Adrian asks again.

I look around for a while still thinking carefully over my response. I see Lennon standing behind a squatted Jake and I notice Jake's head facing down. Then I look back at Adrian and for a split second, my brain smiles.

"Ow!" I yell and grab my left ankle. "It hurts really badly. I've never felt so much pain in my entire life. Adrian, I feel so hurt right now." I continue to wince in pain.

It's very simple—Adrian's team captain and it's his responsibility to assist injured players. I'm not injured but it won't hurt to act like I am.

"I thought you said you're fine." Jake raises his head and I glare at him to shut up.

"Ow, my ankle hurts real bad." I wince once again, making sure I put as much pain as possible into my voice.

"Okay, I'll take you to the camp infirmary." Adrian puts my arm around his neck, puts a hand around my waist and helps me up.

This is the closest I've ever been to him- skin to skin. He grunts a little as he pulls me up, which makes him look more manly.

I hear someone scoff and of course, it's Jake. He stands in front of me, staring only at me like it's an abomination to look at Adrian even if he's right beside me. Jake continues to stare; he cocks his head to the left causing his hair to move then he grinds his jaws against each other slowly; intimidating. Without saying a word, he turns and walks off.

Confused, I turn to Adrian to see him staring hard at Jake's retreating back.

"Let's go." His voice sounds hoarse, probably because I'm putting all my weight on him but if I get to hold Adrian or the other way around, I'll let it happen at its maximum.

We begin walking out of the Lacrosse section towards the camp tents, when suddenly I hear a loud noise behind me and we both turn around.

Does she really have to do all these things just for Adrian?
