"Isn't that the heir to CM enterprise?"
"What's he doing here?"
"I heard some people outside say he was working in here, that's why I came in."
"Waahhh, he's so handsome!"
"This is the first time I've seen him in person,"
"All my dresses are from CM."
"Do you think he'll notice me?"
"The other one is sooo pretty too."
"I heard he's a boy."
"Ehh? He's prettier than me!"
"I'm so happy I decided to come here today!"
"The Lord has blessed my eyes."
The high-pitched voices of the girl's in the cafe were loud enough for everyone inside to hear every word they said.
Despite the fact that it was well past morning time, the cafe was still bustling with people. Most of them seemed to have no specific reason to be there other than hoping to catch a glimpse of the young master.
"Aiden please can we get a chocolate cake out on table seven." Kai said, rushing to and fro to meet with the requests of the customers. He quickly gathered the fresh batch of drinks aunt Lyn brewed and arranged them on a tray. Aiden grumbled internally but still went ahead to do what he was told to.
He was really pent up from having to smile all day and make conversations with the customers. Answering the trivial questions they asked every time he approached their table to drinks or dessert... all for spending time with Kai. This was really his revenge!
"Aunt Lyn, doesn't Donovan usually come in the morning?" Kai questioned when he returned from serving the customers,
"You're right, I haven't seen him either since." She admitted. "I see you two have gotten close?"
"No, Ava just told me he comes in every morning."
"Well, I'm sure he's just busy."
Aiden, returning with the empty tray in his hand, heaved an exasperated. At this point, he would gladly choose the bunch of paperwork and meetings to this torture of a job. How do people do this every day?!
"I am really sorry dear, you're working so hard." Aunt Lyn's voice softened with sympathy as she reached out and patted him on the shoulder, offering him a warm smile.
"It's his fault there are so many people here, so he has to take care of it." Kai stated casually, earning himself a glare from the young master.
He then went on to arrange the drinks aunt Lyn just prepared on two different trays and handed one to Aiden with a cunning smile.
"Thank you for coming to work with me." He said with an undertone that didn't go unnoticed by Aiden.
That little minx!
He took the tray, and they both went to serve the drinks to the assigned tables.
"Here are your drinks." Kai said upon reaching a table occupied by four teenagers. He gracefully set down the drinks and desserts in front of each person and offered them his signature smile and asked, as per cafe policy,
"Is there anything else you'd like?"
"I'd like to have you." A teenage male in an orange shirt said with a hint of jest and a sly smirk playing on his lips,
Such a terrible pick up line.
"I'm sorry, but I don't come on the menu."
"Your phone number then?"
"It seems you're confused, but I'm a boy."
"Ehh? Really?" The boy and the others at the table seemed genuinely surprised at that information.
"Well, my friend here is gay though. Maybe you two can hook up."
A vein popped on Kai's forehead, and he clenched his jaw while still trying to maintain his professional smile. How disrespectful of them. If not for them being customers, he would have snapped and done something really stupid.
"If there is nothing more, I'll leave."
"Hey, I'm not done talking." The boy said, reaching out and grabbing onto Kai's wrist to prevent him from walking away.
Before Kai could even react to this, Aiden stepped in and grabbed the boys wrist, gripping it tightly,
"What the hell, man?" the boy fumed,
"This is a civilised cafe, so please refrain from behaving improperly with out staffs and using vulgar language." Aiden said with a pissed off smile, which caused the other to flinch, and he quickly let go of Kai's wrist.
"What ever man." He shrugged and took a sip from his drink.
Aiden turned to Kai and rose a brow as if waiting for him to say something.
"A thank you would be nice."
"I could've handled it." Kai pouted, and Aiden scoffed in response
"How? By scratching his arm off?"
"Yes, I would have settled with that idea, too."
"How adorable." Aiden ruffled Kai's hair, causing a wave of gasps from the surrounding customers. Kai was quick to smack his hand away when he saw the stares directed at them.
"Oww, that hurt." Aiden whined playfully and caressed the back of his hand.
"You're dragging too much attention. Let's get back to work." Kai said firmly and went back to the counter. Aiden, sporting a mischievous smile, couldn't help but tease Kai further. He rushed after the merman and flung his arm around his neck, pulling him in closer,
"Stop playing around, Aiden." Kai warned, but the young master wasn't even listening to what he had to say.
"Aunt Lyn, we're gonna take a break!" He didn't wait for the elderly lady to reply and just pulled Kai along with him to the break room.
Aunt Lyn saw this, and her face flushed beet red.
"Youngsters." She heard her husband say from behind her.
"Now, now, Juan, they've been working really hard since this morning. They deserve a break."
"Aunty." Donovan's voice interrupted them, and Aunt Lyn turned to see him approaching the counter in a fine beige coloured suit and overcoat.
"Donny!" Aunt Lyn exclaimed, genuinely pleased by his arrival. "How wonderful of you to drop by, we were thinking of you not too long ago."
"'We'?" He rose a brow
"Oh, Kai asked of you since you didn't come this morning."
"How very sweet of him to ask of me." Donny beamed. He glanced around the cafe, searching for Kai. "Where is he anyway?"
"He's in the break room. He brought a friend to help out." She suddenly gasped and her hand instinctively reached her cheek when a realisation dawned on her, "Oh dear, they must be starving since we've been so busy since morning, I didn't get to give them desserts." She quickly arranged some delicacies on a tray for the two of them, but then, her intentions were halted when she remembered they had gone into the break room together.
"I'll go give it to them." Donovan offered and took the tray from the elderly lady before she could protest.
"No, Donny, just tell Kai to come get it. Don't go disturbing them when they're trying to get some rest."
"It's fine, Aunty. I want to see Kai, too. I'm sure they won't mind."
"No, Donovan..." she called, but Donny had ready left with the tray.
.
As soon as Aiden and Kai walked into the break room, Kai swatted his arm away and created a safe distance between the two of them.
"I told you to stop playing around. There are still customers out there, I want to help out." Kai scolded,
"Well, now that we're here, you might as well get some rest." Aiden shrugged and took a seat on the couch.
"Ehhh... this feels nice." He glanced up at Kai, who still stood and patted the empty spot on the couch beside him.
"No need to be so uptight,"
Kai heaved a sigh and took a seat on the couch beside him. Aiden was right. It felt really nice. He was really tired from having to stand and go to and fro ever since morning. Of course, being able to sit on a soft couch would feel like heaven.
Kai shut his lids and nestled himself in the comfyness of the couch.
"You're still angry with me, aren't you?" Aiden suddenly asked, and kai rose a brow
"What are you going on about now?"
"This is torture. You brought me here so I can work my butt off to get back at me." Kai scoffed,
"If I was angry, I wouldn't have made you breakfast."
"I don't believe you."
"Well, that's your problem." Aidens' next words caused a turmoil to the peace Kai just managed to feel,
"Kiss me." He flung his eyes open and glanced at Aiden, who stared back at him with a straight face and he flushed.
"What? Are you out of your mind? We're at work."
"It's just a quick kiss just to show me you're not angry." He leaned closer, and Kai quickly placed his hand over Aidens' mouth to stop him from advancing,
"Take my word for it."
"Then give me a reward. I've been really helpful today, so I'd like a reward." His sentences sounded muffled,
"I'll give you a reward when we get home."
"I want it now. Come on, just kiss me."
"No."
Aiden gently held Kais wrist and grazed his warm wet tongue on his fingertips, sending a shock through the merman,
"Kiss me." He said again, the vibration of his voice causing goosebumps to rise on Kais skin,
"Aiden, stop." It came out weaker than expected, and he cursed himself internally for falling for Aidens teases.
"Kiss me," He let go of Kais wrist and leaned forward. This time, Kai didn't stop him or move away. He parted his lips, waiting, as Aiden came down on him. And just when they were mere centimetres away, they heard the door click open.
Faster than sound, Kai pushed Aiden away and quickly stood up before the person could open the door. His face flushed red, and his heart racing.
"Donovan." He said with a smile when the man walked in,
"Kai," he smiled back. "Aunty wanted me to give you –" Donovan paused and rose a brow when he saw how flushed red Kai was,
"Are you okay? You look red."
"Oh no, it's nothing, I'm fine... just a little hot." He fumbled with the long tubular neck of his top since he was indeed feeling a bit hot.
Kai didn't fumble too much, but Donovan was quick to notice the red dot on his neck, and his eyes narrowed behind the lenses of the glass he wore,
"Anyway, aunt wanted you two to have this since you haven't eaten anything."
Kai glanced down at the tray in his hand and saw that she had selected the dulce de leche. A wave of joy washed over him, and his eyes welled up with tears. "Awwn, aunt Lyn!"
He picked the fork from the tray and stabbed it into vanilla cake. Without bothering to find a seat, he took a bite out of it, making sure to savour the creamy treat.
Donovan smiled at how cute he looked, munching on the cake with his cheeks puffed.
"Slow down so you won't choke." He said, and kai nodded.
Donovan's roaming gaze fell on kais wrist beneath the long sleeve of his turtle neck. Though the mark was already faint and fading, Donovan could still make out the contrast to his usual pale skin.
"What happened to your wrist?" He questioned and noticed the boy flinch.
Kai instinctively pulled the sleeve of his turtle neck and smiled nervously, "I just scratched on it too much." He replied. Donovan glanced over Kai's shoulder at the young master slouched on the couch, who had been staring daggers at him the entire time. He sensed a bad vibe coming from him, and he was smart enough to know why.
"There are a lot of people out there, so I'm gonna help you guys out today. I'll be in your care." He bowed, and Kai smiled.
It was an impromptu decision, but either way, no harm done
"Great. I'm getting tired anyway."
"You've worked hard." Donovan ruffled Kai's hair. This action took Kai by surprise and he placed his hand on his head where Donovan touched.
"Aren't you going to introduce us?" Kai shrieked silently when he felt Aiden suddenly slip his arms around his waist from behind. Even Donny was taken aback but shrugged it off.
"Aiden, this is Donovan. He's a friend of Aunt Lyn's son. Donovan, Aiden." Kai said awkwardly.
"Ohh, Aiden Clein. I've heard about you, nice to meet you." He stretched out his hand for a hand shake but was left hanging. Donny cleared his throat and gingerly slid his hand back into his pocket.
"Aunty said to let you two rest so rest well." He said and kai nodded.
"We'll be out soon."
