Chapter 25: Abducted

"Who is ‘we’?” I ask Jaggar, trying to pretend there isn’t a gun pointed at me. I stand still and let him enter the cell with me.

“Ah, nice try. You’ll find out when he’s ready,” Jaggar chuckles and he sets the tray down on a little stool inside the cage. He then backs out of the cage, keeping his eyes on me. He locks the cell once again before putting the gun away.

He heads toward the stairs and I start to panic. As much as I hate Jaggar, I don’t want to be alone down here. I especially don’t want to be alone if someone else, someone worse, decides to come down.

“Wait, where are you going?” I can hear the panic in my voice and I feel embarrassed. Jaggar again laughs at my expense.

“I have to go keep up appearances, don’t I?” Jaggar turns around, cockier now. He seems to have found his purpose and feels little empathy for me now. “Play the part of the concerned or grieving ex. I think I can pull it off.”
