Of my many years of reading, Shao is definitely not a common surname, at least not in novels. Usually it’d be Ye, Lin, or Su. I hope that this novel would be as rare as the mc’s surname and not as generic as the other pokem- *cough* the other pet taming novels.

Typical Pet story. Guy crosses over to a pet world with a cheat that can see a character sheet of the desired pet. Guy has a mysterious family background from what I get. Guy takes no initiative to see his predecessors memories and understand what's going on around him. Guy doesn't really do much at all really. Typical pet novel, not very satisfying. If you want something better go read Astral Pet Store or whatever that other one was that got voted last week.
Irritating. MC has emotional problems and from what I’ve read so far, he seems like he’s not really in control of his own life. He’s being placed in a passive position where he isn’t the one taking the initiative but something happens and which forces his hand. I don’t want to read about a person like this, who has no drive and is left with a trauma they can’t get rid of. There are better novels in this week’s trial read. I hope they get picked instead of this.
So I mtled this to chapter 100. it focuses on the pet aspects and they are slowly growing more personality and strength. as of now there is no pet abuse, no lack of Love towards his pet. he is a nice guy with anti social behavior and the book does a good job describing that. he does not act over the top, say one thing and do another or cause issues. not your normal Chinese mc. of course humans are the main source of problems and bad guys but he does slowly make friends and there are goid people. Mom is still alive and doing good, dad ran during battle not sure where he went. its a slow read with less angst.
Honestly, I felt like I was reading the beginning of kids TV show. Emoticons which absolutely destroy any sense of enthrallment in the book. A guy who doesnt seem to have a personality. Just 1 want so far. Definitely not a intelligent MC if that's what you like. A creature who has more "personality", but because it is just a "cute personality" it feels awkward. This book feels like a wishfuliment of a guys wanting an armadillo lizard and then just thought to add fantasy to it. And foreshadowing of power ups based on emotions. If you want to find a good book, keep searching.
Suddenly 20 years ago all creatures beside human started mutating, China was the only country who was prepared and responded quickly so they had no problems unlike the rest of the world, where they were dying and running away from their countries for shelter. China is the only country in the world who can make contract with the mutated beasts and when they couldn't control the situation and had to recrute more people to fight the swarm of insects they decided that they are going to share the method to make contract since it would be impossible to control its spreading afterwards. After china's benevolence there was finally stability in the world and China is the only country who help some weak countries. When other countries denounced China for keeping secret how to make contracts for many years, well some people just hate you, whatever you do they hate you, if you eat they hate you if you drink they hate you (this is how it was written). China is just minding its own business, dealing with its internal problems but the rest of the world do nothing beside bothering China. The evil people till now were Chinese who went to study abroad or do business outside China and came back. This is the situation in the first 40 chapters and the Mc is still in a small city who knows where and hadn't any international contact.
Read raw too 500-600ish and drop strory is good and play with reader emotion but then it sudden went down hill -some "virus" broke up every country in the world affect by it I let you guess which country can "contain" that virus lol -and then tournament arc ofc "bald eagle" country gonna arrogance and kill people in tourny ofc MC gonna revenge right lol it so sad that first 1-300 chapter story is good but get ruin by some stupid nationalism

Mediocre, but not catastrophic. If there had not been so many pet beast novels recently, I might have enjoyed it more. That said it is the usual transmigrator MC with Data Vision super powers, which allows him to see a pets stats, attributes etc. Not as broken as some others because there is no evolution guide included, but if the MC had any sense he could become rich by reselling pets. Sadly this novel is seemingly heading in a more combat focused direction, which I feel is not a good thing. It bends the characters of the MC and his pet in a direction which is unsuitable to really make use of the special world building features of the novel. MC is kind of dull, but might have hidden depts, there are cases of foreshadowing, which I really like. Again 20 Chapters is too short.
