Chapter 228

After a while, slowly but surely they all started to fall asleep. This was the opportunity I had been waiting for but I had to wait till everyone and I mean, everyone was asleep. I could not let any of them foil my plans most especially the one that can communicate with me, he kept throwing side glances at me throughout his conversations with the rest and whenever our eyes met, I had to quickly avert mine. I knew that it made me seem like someone that was plotting or hatching a plan, but there was no way that I could continue to stare at him, when he had such a piercing gaze like he was staring directly into my soul and was able to uncover all my hidden and buried secrets. He refused to fall asleep, he was the only one left, he stood up and added some sticks to the fire to keep it burning and make sure we were protected from any wild animals that were planning to come our way. I laid down on my straw and pretended to be asleep, I knew there was no way he would fall asleep, if he knew I was still awake.

I slowed my breathing down and relaxed my breathing, I did this for over thirty minutes, I did the counting in my head, so there was every possibility that I was wrong, but it seemed like sufficient time for anyone to fall asleep but one can never be too careful, so I stayed still for some more minutes. When there was no further noise coming from behind me and all I could hear was their snores, I deemed it safe for my plan to go into motion. It was certain that any sudden movement would make the straw I sleeping on to make noise and this could wake those with sensitive hearing up, I slowly and carefully crawled away from it into the ground. I was so happy because the first phase was completed.

The second phase was where my plans were still shaky with regards to execution, I did not know where I was, neither did I know the direction I would take that would lead me to where Naki was, there was also every probability that in the dark like this, I would encounter more dangerous animals. All these thoughts made me stay still on the ground that I was lying down without making any further movement. I really had to think my actions through this time around, because the last time I went against logic and decided to risk it all, I came to a very close encounter with a snake than I ever wished to in my life and I was lucky to have made it alive, I certainly do not want such to repeat itself again. One reason why I kept wanting to leave was because I do not know the intention of these men that I was with especially with no female amongst them.
