The next day, the students were awoken by a sudden message from the school. They all rushed to the school's information centre and waited for the school authorities to come and meet them. It was a sudden call and so none of the students was able to change from their nightwear.
The entire information centre was filled with a large number of students all whispering, hissing, and muttering among themselves. No one knew why they were suddenly called and nothing seemed off. But they were still at a loss for words concerning last night's events, it was an unbelievable thing that Max did, it shocked the entire students and thus the scenes of his actions were still fresh in their memories.
Just as the students were busy with the talks about last night, the Dean walked into the place with some teachers and two school cleaners who were carrying a covered body. The students all looked confused yet, no one dared to say a word for fear of gaining the Dean's wrath. They silently watched as the angry man walked to the front of the place and then cleared his throat.
"Sadly, we've lost a student!" The man announced causing the whole place to turn noisy from the muttering voices of the confused and shocked students. "Open it!" He said to the cleaners who nodded and opened the body.
"Kelvin!"
"Holy shit! He is dead?"
"What?"
"How the hell did this happen?"
"I was shocked and confused as you are right now when I heard the news," the man said shutting the students all up. "According to the reports, he was bitten by death by an unknown creature. This explains the bite marks, scratches and the excess loss of blood that led to his tragic death," the Dean explained as he glanced at the horrible looking body of Kelvin. His skin had become white like that of a ghost, with bite marks and deep scratches all over his body. His mouth was torn apart, with his eyes gouged out from their sockets. It looked so scary and terrible that the students dared not take a closer look at it. Max was one of the students that were at the front and so he fixed his eyes on the body.
His brows knitted as he kept staring at the body, he as well, was confused and shocked but it didn't make him any less sorry for Kelvin. He deserved death, although the death was a bit too brutal.
"Listen up, everyone! There will be a curfew placed from 9:00 till dawn, and it'll begin today. We have to ensure safety measures in this school and as such, securities will be planted around the school. If you notice any unusual movements around you, be quick to report to any of the school management or the teachers so that something like this won't have to repeat itself. You can go back to your dorms and prepare for your classes."
The students nodded and began to leave the place one after the other, some students refused to go alone for fear of being the next victim.
Back in the dorms, the room was quiet as a boneyard, no one said a word to themselves since they had returned from the information centre. The boys were enraged and sad at the same time, they could not hide the look of shock and disbelief as they stared at the space. No one wanted to accept the fact that their friend and roommate is gone. Gone to never return!
"We should have insisted and followed after him last night," Matt voiced out in regret and heaved a sigh of sadness. The sigh was followed by a long moment of silence as no one had any other thing to say. They were all regretting why they didn't insist on following Kelvin to the infirmary. If they had, who knows maybe, just maybe, he could still be alive.
Another deep sigh was issued followed by Nat who suddenly stood up, causing Matt and Harry to stare at him in confusion. "I'll be right back!" He said and began to walk towards the door.
"And where do you think you are going?" Harry asked, standing up and walking towards the door to block it. His action surprised Matt and Nat.
"To see that little devil, I know he did this to Kelvin. If not him, who else would do it? He killed Kelvin because he could not do it in the presence of everyone," Nat said angrily as he tried to push Harry out of the way. "Get out of my way! He must explain to me how he killed Kelvin in that manner!"
"Can you just hear yourself? What makes you think that Max did it? Does he look like some creature to you or a blood-sucking demon? You are just blinded by anger and that is why you behaving rashly," Harry said while standing firmly against the door. If one should ask, Max could have been the only suspect considering the fight between them the other night but seeing how Kelvin was brutally killed, there was no way fingers could be pointed at him. And so he would not let Nat make the mistake of angering Max again. "We all need to calm down, Kelvin is gone and so it is. We don't have to make the same mistakes he made, the only thing we ought to do now is to be careful and watchful at the same time."
Nat let out a sigh and walked back to his bed. He felt helpless and hopeless at the same time. It was because of him that Kelvin died and he could get himself to let it go and pretend as nothing had happened. "We should prepare and leave for class or we'll be late," he said and went into the bathroom.
--------------
In the class, everyone kept whispering to themselves about the death of Kelvin. It was still hard to believe especially how brutally killed he was. No one wanted to experience such, not when they haven't achieved anything yet.
"Hey, where were you last night?" Max who had been quiet since the whole thing began suddenly asked Zheren after they had entered the class.
Zheren halted on his steps and glanced at Max, he had been expecting him to ask him that and so it didn't shock or confuse him in any way. "I went to the infirmary!"
