Ozar Brownbett

Chapter 14

we finally get back to the motel and boy does Mr Ozar have alot to complain about, I know we just escaped a crime bosses clutches together but this man is grumpy. everyone gathers around to make sure I'm alright and they want to know what happened the previous night and while I'm explaining it to them Mr Ozar starts yapping about who we are and why we are in his motel, the village chief tells him we rented rooms in the motel and this man roach asks who gave us the keys to the rooms. after a while he starts complaining about how rescuing him was a mistake and that the crime family wouldn't let it slip.

according to him the boss is one of the worst criminals in the whole agi subsection, from the " Yokko Crime Family ". they are said to have a hand in each and every ill business that goes on in the agi and they are known for making use of roachfolk when conducting Thier operations. Ozar says it would only be a matter of time before they found him with Thier vast network of spies and rats and that escaping would only lead them to his son who he was protecting in the first place and who he was ready to die for just so they wouldn't find him. I tell him that it was a stupid decision since he would be leaving his son behind in a harsh environment to fend for himself, Ozar replies by saying it would be a better life for his son than being dead. as soon as he completes the sentence my skin starts to crawl and I instantly get goosebumps, yet somehow I still understand and fully respect his resolve. it's something only a loving parent could do, or guardian, cause some parents are trash.

now I know why he's grumpy, he just wants to protect his son even if it costs him his life, especially.

then I get the bright idea that we should attack them head on before they have time to prepare and find us, cept then cuts me off mid sentence, which is rude. he says that it's a very terrible idea, Mr Ozar and the village chief agree with him. cept says we shouldn't get involved any more than we already are with them since it was never our initial reason for coming to the capital, he reminds me that we're here to make a report to the council concerning the Wakaani sightings in human territory and dark magic. I still try to be stubborn and persistent especially because I can't stand the fact that I left those girls to be sold like property and bought but we aren't superheroes that have come to save the agi, it being a condemned part of the capital. if even the king couldn't care less about the garbage in his backyard then why should we think we are it's saviours, that would only make us seem pompous. after a while of going back and forth on the topic everyone finally agrees that it doesn't have anything to do with us and that we should mind our business, I'm pissed at everyone but even I have to admit the best way to help those girls and many others like them is to bring it to the King's attention. Ozar is thinking about what to do, he seems to be considering moving out of the capital for the sake of Azzar but he doesn't know where to go. the village chief then offers him sanctuary in our village, he's obviously reluctant at first asking if they would be accepted in our village considering the fact that apart from kingdom laws many humans and villages aren't welcoming to roachfolk. the chief convinces him that our village isn't like the others and isn't racist and that him and his son would be comfortable, and I know he's trying to help but should he really be speaking on behalf of the villagers, I think he's putting too much confidence in the village. the village chief also suggests that he could wait till we finish our business in the capital and he could follow us to the village, but he insists that it would take too long and that the crime family could get them if they wait any longer so it would be better if they were to leave the capital first thing the next morning. I ask about his motel but he says that it's not as important as keeping his son safe and he's especially grateful to me for giving him the opportunity to protect his son. he tells us that they were the reason azzar's mother, his wife, isn't around anymore and that it's all his fault. he explains to us that a few years ago he needed to earn money for them and he somehow ended up meeting with the Yokko family crime boss at the time, who agreed to help him with a loan. he accepted it and went on to buy the space for the motel, he had dreamt that the motel would be a turning point for him and that it would open many doors financially for him but he was wrong. the first mistake he made was believing his motel would thrive in the agi and the other mistake was the fact that he didn't consider the crime families motives, they had planned to collect monthly payments from him and they also expected some form of annual revenue for protection. aside the families motives the agi was not a suitable environment for such a business to thrive and was frequented by robbers and even at one point became a spot for hookers and exotic material addicts. over time as the family kept collecting the dues, it started to become more and more difficult to keep business afloat. eventually he could no longer pay up and they decided to collect Thier dues through any means they could, they collected Thier dues through his wife. I'd tell you what he said but it's too heartbreaking for me to say, it's just too sad to repeat.
