Leo's Doubts

"A lawyer, huh? So tell me, why would you come so far from your home just to go to a bar?" Rachel asked after spending close to fifteen minutes in the taxi, and they were yet to reach Leo's apartment.

She couldn't understand why someone would go so far just for this.

"Work took me there. Finished early, had nothing better to do, so I decided to give it a try." Leo answered honestly.

Only after hearing his explanation did Rachel understand. Her look changed to that of thoughtfulness. She leaned on the other door of the cab and gave Leo a good look.

"So are you a good guy or a bad guy?" Rachel asked with a serious look.

"You mean my personality? Hmm..." Leo responded absent-mindedly as he fell into deep thought.

Right now he was undoubtedly on the wrong path but before this, he wasn't sure who he was. Back then Leo wasn't into these things, not necessarily because he didn't want to but because he couldn't. Or at least he saw no point in doing so. At that time, Leo would have considered himself good, but now...

'You really can't tell who a person is, until he is in a position of power.' Leo mumbled in his mind.

"I'm somewhere in the middle." Leo responded firmly, leaving Rachel with a confused look on her face.

"That's not possible…" Rachel said with a frown.

"You can either be good or bad," She staunchly replied.

"I disagree. I'm a man who does what he thinks is right. I act based on my personal principles regardless of who I'm dealing with. To those who benefit from my lifestyle, I am a good person. To others, I'm a bad person. You can never be completely good in the eyes of everyone in the world, so I do what's right by me." Leo responded with a calm and soothing tone.

Rachel listened to him and frowned. She wanted to argue, but she didn't know how to.

Swish.

Leo leaned forward as his face quickly closed the gap between the two. However, he made sure to not come too close and maintained a reasonable gap, at least by his judgement. His eyes carried a mixture of emotions as he peered into the eyes of the lady before speaking.

"If I fought the man for you and ended up killing him just to protect you, his family will consider me evil. However, would you consider me evil too?" Leo asked with his dreamy eyes, causing Rachel to turn red instantly.

Rachel then turned her face and avoided eye contact while trying to steady her breathing.

"I- I can't possibly consider you a bad person." Rachel said slowly only to see a warm smile bloom on Leo's face as he gently held her hand.

"Thank you." Leo muttered in a low and alluring tone.

The aged driver watched as the young devil controlled the mood of the discussion flawlessly through the mirror, and he couldn't help but silently pray for the lady.

'This guy is definitely a demon spawn. No, he is the devil.' The driver concluded after giving Leo another look through the mirror only to meet Leo's cold gaze.

Leo and Rachel spoke merrily while walking up the staircase. By the time they reached the top, Leo was about to open his door only to see Maria stepping out of her home.

Fuck!

Only now did Leo remember he just sent her away this morning. Her eyes still looked swollen from all the crying she may have been doing. Seeing Leo and another lady, Maria froze on the spot and was speechless.

"Do you know her?" Rachel mumbled as she noticed the weird gaze from the lady.

"Yes, she's my next-door neighbor." Leo answered indifferently as he opened the door and walked in as if nothing happened.

Rachel followed him in after which Leo locked the door as soon as she walked in.

"Are you sure? She looked kinda heartbroken over you." Rachel said with a raised eyebrow.

"Impossible, she already has someone. That is unless he broke up with her." Leo shrugged his shoulder in response as he took off his coat and walked in the direction of the stairs.

"There are snacks and whatever you need in the kitchen. I'm going up to change since it's uncomfortable in these." Leo said while climbing the stairs.

"Is that okay? Like, I'm a stranger here." Rachel looked flustered, but Leo only shot her a sweet smile and stopped before speaking.

"Hahaha, I trust you." Leo responded before he kept walking up.

With his back behind her, Leo wore an accomplished look on his face as if he could see Rachel blushing.

---

Bang!

Leo slammed the door behind him and his face turned cold as he walked toward the mirror and stood in front of him. His short discussion with Rachel left him thinking about the path the system was leading him to.

Is this really what he wants?

Leo stood with a calm look on his face as he turned to meet the gaze of the enemy. The reflection in the mirror revealed a side of him he has never explored before. His discussion with Rachel left him wondering if this is truly who he is, or is this a path set out for him by the system?

[What is evil?]

What?

Leo looked flustered as he saw the message. Even if he shut his eyes he could still see the message and what was more terrifying was that he didn't have an answer.

[How sure are you that this person who is making you rethink your life decisions will be doing the same if she had this opportunity you have been given?]

Seeing this, Leo frowned deeply as he began to ponder.

[You cannot tell who a person truly is until they are in a position of advantage, or have you forgotten that?]

Hearing this all forms of confusion in Leo's mind were cleared and peace had returned to his face.

The same way a wealthy man doesn't take financial advice from a poor man was the same way he couldn't let people judge himself to be evil. In the same way, a god does not take to heart the opinions of his worshipers should be the same way a demon lord candidate like himself shouldn't make a decision based on the advice of a mere twenty-year-old.

[Good. That's how it works. Might make right]

A mechanical voice rang in Leo's mind, but he didn't seem to mind. Leo stood looking at himself in the mirror but unknown to him, his shadow had completely covered the room.

Within the darkness of his shadow, a towering figure stood behind him with a pair of blood-red eyes, gazing down at the mortals looking in the mirror.

The movement had only begun, there was no room for doubt.
