Chapter Nine

Yasuharu's POV

It's been a few days since my father came to visit my brother and his fiance. I still don't know the short alpha's name, and he doesn't seem too keen on telling me it, but why would I need to know it anyway? I can't exactly say it.

It's been quiet in the house, not a relaxing quiet, an irritating quiet that occurs whenever Damien goes to work and leaves this Penny dude to look after me. Each day it becomes more boring and I feel a larger bridge come between me and Damien's lover, perhaps he's just trying to bottle up his feelings about having to stay home from the day they get married. Maybe he doesn't want to give birth to a family? Only he really knows.

I get up out of my bed with my legs trembling the slightest bit, and move over to the wardrobe to get dressed before he notices I'm awake and stops doing what he wants to do. I pull on a black shirt and trousers, pulling socks on lazily and making my way out of the room and down the corridor to the kitchen. Damien had insisted on making me move to a room downstairs so I didn't have to go up two flights of stairs to get to my old room. I walk into the kitchen and meet eyes with Damien, a shiver running up my spine because I wasn't expecting him to be home.

"Yasu, you should have asked someone to help you out of bed." He got up and walked over, watching me take a step back and staying where he was. I felt a sharp sense of irritation crawl up my spine and jab me in the back of the head, and he clearly noticed because he sighed and looked away. "I know you want to be able to do things on your own, but a small incident could open up your neck wound." He stepped over, pulling me into a gentle hug and smiling down at me.

I understood that the smallest of things could injure me, I'm aware I've always been fragile. He should have learnt by now I don't need babying whenever something happens. I feel him pull away and start to go and grab him, but pause when I see he's got his attention on the front door. I shift, leaning over to a side and stare at the door, blinking in silence.

"Damien, why are you staring." scan over the male, not yet recognising him until I glance upwards to my older brother and see the smile creep onto his face and plaster it with happiness. Penny.

"How was work?" I moved away in confusion, did Penny go instead of Damien? I think about it in my head for a few minutes, and end up confusing myself, and come to the conclusion that Damien wanted Penny to spend some time in his work before he has to stay home until the kids are old enough, or until I can at least look after them, maybe?

"It's weird being in after so long, but it was nice to do something meaningful." Damien pulled away from me and walked over, kissing him on the forehead silently.

"Looking after Yasu is already meaningful, and so will looking after the kids." I watch as Penny moves away and looks to a side, then looks up to meet my eyes and stays silent.

"Can we talk about this later?" He moves his eyes away and meets Damien's gaze and smiles when he nods and hugs him. I shift awkwardly, feeling hungry, but how am I meant to tell them that?
