TRUTH BE TOLD

I was in extreme pain but I did not let out a single sound because I knew that the doctor was still outside, probably trying to hear what was going on inside. I listened for his footsteps and heard him head to the door and say something to the people outside and immediately there were more than a pair of food steps entering the room. I'm sure everyone came in because they were worried. I tried to make my wings go back the way I had all this time but it did not work and instead they grew larger in the size and flapped on their own making a loud sound and there impact with the shower head made it bend.

"Are you alright in there Dee?!" I heard Rose ask and my wings gave out a faint blue glow as if responding to her; something I've never seen in my entire life.

"I'm fine!" I half screamed so that they would leave leave me alone,"I just need a few minutes and I'll be out!"

"Do you really expect us to leave when you are acting strange and after being asleep for a whole week. I'm coming in." Sam said calmly and I heard someone crush into the door.

I started to panic knowing that the door would not last long under a lot of force and there were a lot of people to break it down. "Please listen to me! I'm fine! Don't come in!"

"I think we should leave." I heard Ray say.

He's probably the only one who realized what was happening to me inside.

"No! What's wrong kiddo? We need to see if he's fine." Sam demanded relentlessly.

There is no way I can avoid this. If my wings won't go back in and I don't come out and they find out about what I am from a different source they will think I used them.

"Ray, it's okay. Mom and dad can remain but the rest of you should leave." I said because it was the best option available.

If they thought of me as a threat and I would leave but hiding this kind of thing from them was wrong when they had accepted into their own family wholeheartedly and without question. I heard some whispers that I did not pay attention to because of the pain I was experiencing and the next thing I heard were some retreating footsteps and the door shutting.

"We are alone now. Tell us what's wrong." I heard Sam say,"Come out from their kiddo."

He spoke softly, no dictatorship in his tone of voice like he was giving me a choice. I screamed when I felt my back heat up and my spine stated to ache. The two people standing outside started to bang on the door and Sam asked me what was wrong and I heard Bella start crying. For someone who looked tough she really did cry a lot. I moved my hand towards the door and unlocked it then opened it to go out still in pain. The pain however quickly faded as soon as I went outside as if what I need was to see them.

"What the hell!" Sam exclaimed moving himself and Bella away from the door.

I saw the fear in their eyes grow as the sight of me with wings and probably with shimmering skin slowly sunk in to their brains "I can explain." I said gasping for air.

Sam walked towards me and I opened up my arms expecting a hug but instead received a jaw cracking punch on my left cheek. He grabbed my shirt and pushed me to the wall while yelling at Bella to leave. I did not retaliate and noticed that Bella had collapsed. Sam noticed too and run back to his wife, picked her up and then he run from the room. I quickly followed him downstairs and was greeted by the screams of the children who were laying their eyes on my true self for the first time.

"She's dying!" I shouted so Sam could stop running away with Bella.

Her heart beat was very faint and I could see how she was still half awake and barely breathing. He was heading towards the door so I shot a small stream of fire to melt the locks inside so it wouldn't open up. He finally stopped as his children run towards him in fear. Ray, Rose and Rilili came to stand beside me like they were going to fight on my behalf and it put some hope in my heart.

"Please she is going to die let me help her." I said calmly,"I will leave after that, please."

"If you care so much then open up the damn door so we can take her to the hospital!" Sam yelled.

"Dad please listen to him." Ray pleaded walking towards his family,"Mom's dying."

"Are you working with that thing?!" Sam shouted and Bella started convulsing in his arms.

He started panicking and was going to run to the kitchen to take Bella out but I flew towards him and took her. I flew to the stair case and lay her down there. Her eyes shot open and she grabbed my shirt weakly. I placed my hand on her forehead, transferring some of my self-regeneration ability to her and then her eyes closed again.

"Get away from my wife!" Sam yelled pushing me away from Bella but she held on to my shirt and this time her grip on me was strong. I used my own hand and removed her hand from me and then I stood up as my wings retracted.

I said goodbye to everyone and walked out through the back door where I was followed by Ray, Rose and Rilili.

"You can come to my place." Rose suggested panicking.

"Your father didn't like me. I don't need more people finding out about me." I answered as I continued walking.

"Are you going to go with a ripped shirt dude?" Ray said and I stopped walking,"Take mine. Let me go pack you a bag at least."

"Nothing here belongs to me. Tell them I'm grateful." I said smiling at the three of them.

"Come on Dee. My parents wouldn't stop talking about how well mannered you were and my brother likes you." Rilili said holding onto my arm.

Before I could respond the door opened and Sam walked out with a gun. It was not the same as the one the man had used on me in the alley and this one actually looked frightening.

"Get inside and don't cause a scene. Mr Phil is a police officer with a bunch of scientists for friends. I don't need my son dying."

I glanced over at Phil's house and then looked back at Sam who was very serious as he pointed the gun at me. From how he was standing I could tell he was trying to hide it from anyone who would be looking from Phil's house but it also meant he couldn't fire without hurting himself because of the recoil. I walked back into the house and found Bella sitting on one of the bar stools in the kitchen surrounded by her children. She smiled up at me but I couldn't move my facial muscles to smile I this situation as I felt the cold barrel of the gun on my skin where my wing had made a hole.

"Where you going to leave your family Dee?" Bella asked.

"My family referred to me as 'it' and we're running from me. What else did you expect?"

"We get scared of Sam sometimes and we run from him too. I call him it as well."

"Do you usually use guns to get what you want done?" I asked and she looked sad.

Sam lowered the gun and walked in front of me with an expression of shame.

"No we don't. It's just an old military habit that you'll have to live with if you're my kid."

"I can't stay here. I can't stay on earth either." I said shaking my head,"I'm sorry I troubled you."

"What happens when I'm asked what happened to my eighteen years old adopted son whom I made fake papers for? Like it or not you have already left an imprint on us that will put us in harm's way even when you leave."

He was saying some sensible things. But they were at the risk of facing none humans if I stayed. My uncle has no compassion; he killed his brother and he can certainly kill a species weaker than him. I sighed but said nothing to Sam because he wouldn't listen to me even if I rolled around in mud.

"You should freshen up. You have a week's worth of filth on you kiddo." he said and I walked to the door.

I decided to go back and hugged everyone especially Bella because she seemed the most affected.

"I love you mom." I said and when she said it back, using my own full name, I burst into tears.

The true love of a mother.

"I love you Vermont Delsaloriota McGuire."

"And I love you kiddo McGuire." Sam said joining the hug and then I smelled Rose close to me as well because she had also joined and in time everyone was hugging like they had not pointed a gun at me.

I'll do everything I can to protect them; anything and everything.
