-----So I was struggling with the editing for a while. Sorry about that-----
After the USJ incident the teachers were rushing around. As it turns out however, Principal Nezu extended the weekend for the first years. Apparently both hero courses were given three days off extending into the weekend. So I now had five days to do whatever I wanted.
Sadly my freedom didn't last long as Rumi decided we would go camping. More accurately she was dragging meaning to her own camping trip. Apparently some tourists spotted something out in the woods. When some locals started seeing it too, it turned from tourist's playing a prank to a possible animal with quirk.
I placed the last bag into the trunk of the car. "Is that everything?"
Rumi walked over and threw a suitcase into the back. "Do you have your hero costume?"
I nodded, "Good, also put this into your pockets."
She held out some papers and I raised an eyebrow. Rumi explained, "It is a temporary hero license. You will be acting as an intern basically. Though sadly it will prevent me from taking you for an actual internship later."
Internships… I wondered how those were determined. I knew they were after the UA Festival, but… would that be canceled? I mean we are being given a 3 day break. I gave a shrug and asked, "Why does it prevent you from taking me on an internship?"
Rumi laughed, "Bureaucracy. Simply put, the HPSC likes to hire dick suckers."
"Huh? What do you mean?" I couldn't help but be confused."
Rumi shrugged, "Let's just say one of the committee members has it out for me. Resulting in cases where they block some of my actions. By the way, it shouldn't be a problem, but when the time finally comes for you to get your hero license be wary. I doubt a fuss would be made for you, but you never know."
I got in the passenger seat as Rumi got into the driver's side. I looked at her, "I feel like there's a story here."
She laughed, "Mostly, old childhood rivalry. The difference was I made it through the hero program she didn't. Wasn't until later I found out she joined the HPSC and since then…"
I nodded, "That hardly explains the name calling."
Rumi laughed, "Once upon a time she commanded the bathroom stalls. Stole my boyfriend, and tried to one up me every chance in highschool. The boys loved her though. According to my ex, she was like a vacuum."
I couldn't help being more curious. "Okay, now I have to know her quirk."
Rumi laughed, "Her quirk was digestion manipulation. In my opinion it was a pretty good quirk. It gave perfect manipulation of her mouth, throat, and stomach. That kind of quirk is pretty useful in everyday life. Despite all this, she was the super jealous type.
Rumi paused and shook her head, "Not like it matters anymore. Now she just makes paper work harder for me now."
I shrugged, I couldn't really say much about that. So I changed the subject, "Are we also gonna do some training? I would like to work on my energy absorption."
Rumi nodded, "You recently evolved to absorb sound waves right? How is that?"
As we were driving I sucked up all the sound in the car and the silence was deafening. Rumi ears went straight up. When I stopped she scolded me, "Do that again and I'll kick you in the groin. That made my ears pop."
I shuddered a little from her threat and nodded. "A world without sound makes me unnerved anyway. Since I essentially absorb the waves I don't hear anything anymore, but I can well… Feel the sound and the directions I am taking them from. Which is why I want to train with it."
Rumi nodded, "You already have super hearing, but you won't hear everything. Training that will be good for your overall growth."
The drive was a couple of hours long, but we arrived quickly enough. "Is this where you normally do hero work?"
Rumi shook her head, "Somewhat close, My agency is connected to a ranger lodge. One of the rangers has a low-range teleportation quirk. So I actually normally drive over to their home and they take me to the agency. They live in one of the villages nearby and that cuts the trip travel time in half. The catch is they can only teleport one person across a distance of 5-6 kilometers."
I nodded, "They work as a ranger?"
Rumi nodded, "Yeah the tourists essentially told them, and they told me." Rumi anticipated my question and answered before I asked. "With heroes in the area the rangers mostly clean up trails, put up signs, and sort through the nonsense people see or hear."
I asked, "And you are taking me on a snipe hunt?"
She laughed, "It's not some wild goose chase sadly. Several animal corpses were found picked clean. Normally that isn't too weird, but the gnaw marks on the bones were bigger than the average carnivores in the area."
Rumi took one last turn and we arrived. We arrived directly at a forested trail. Rumi smiled, "Let's get to it."
