[MIYOGA POV]
That day you knocked on my door...
[Twenty Two years ago]
I heard three loud bangs on the front door of my house. I thought it was maybe those fifth graders knocking on the neighborhood doors playing pranks again but no. When I opened the door I saw a pink haired boy with gray eyes.
"Yes?," I asked.
" Hello!," he greeted. " I'm Benji Hoga, short for Benjirou!"
I stared at him. " Why are you standing in front of my house?"
" Uhhh, well I'm new to this neighborhood-I moved here way down from southern japan. I'm your new neighbor!"
Neighbor...this kid was gonna be the new entertainment for the sixth graders!
" You look like a nice person." Hoga complimented. " What's your name?"
" Minato Miyoga," I replied.
" Nice to meet you," Hoga held out his hand. " Let's be friends, Minato!"
I took his hand. His hand was warm, like the sun's light shining onto your back. I felt a warm feeling in my chest. My first friend. That day you knocked on my door Benjirou Hoga. I knew it was a start to something new.
[PRESENT DAY]
"You spaced out again," Fuyuko told me. " You aren't going to get anything out of him if you're in the clouds, Hades."
" I wasn't spaced out," I said. " He's not going to talk if you're in here, it'll be better if you left us alone."
" Suit yourself." Fuyuko left the room.
I stared at Benji between the glass. He looked up at me with his cold gray eyes. " Black Devil...is that what they call you now, Minato?"
" If you have any information on Tadashi Todoroki then spit it out, I can't be here all day," I started to explain the main problem. " You were caught when the attack with Ryu happened. Somehow one of my student suddenly went missing that day. A couple of year ago you were already known to be working for the League of Villains. So tell me, do you know anything about that kid's disappearance?"
Benji started to spin around in the chair he was held down to. " I gave up on the League a long time ago. I probably wouldn't know anything if Shigaraki had planned something. I fI did you would be the last person I would tell."
I gritted my teeth and tightened my fist on the table I sat at.
" What made you change?," I questioned. " What happened to the nervous southern boy I knew?"
"Changing was the correct choice," he assured. " Witnessing war in my first year of UA taught me that heroes and Villains don't matter. Nothing matters, people don't deserve titles like that. From then on I left to go my own way!"
" You're being corrupted. Your being enslaved by a shitty wannabe leader," I sneered.
" I'm not a slave," Benji growled. " You just don't see the concept. Don't speak to me if you have nothing good to tell me." He turned his back to me.
I felt anger overflowing in me. He was acting like a fucking child. It's been twelve years since I saw the real Benjirou Hoga.
" You ok, Miyoga?," Fuyuko walked back into the room. " Water's coming out of your eye."
" I'm fine," I lied. " D-Dust just flew in my eyes."
" Well if you got nothing out of him then you mine as well leave to the next suspect."
I stood up from the chair and began to make my way out of the room.
" Hey, Minato," Benji called. " Benji called.
I turned to him.
" Just hold on...a little longer for me." He looked up at me with bright eyes rather than dim.
*FLASHBACK*
Benji sat in the middle of me and Akihiko in the W.H.A program jet. He put his arms around both our shoulders.
" You don't have to worry guys," he said. " No matter what happens we won't be apart. If something bad happens and I'm not there. Just hold on and I'll be there in a flash."
*PRESENT DAY*
I took one last glimpse of his face and walked out the room.
" Did your client give any information?," I questioned Fuyuko. " No new tracks on the Todoroki?"
" We've got nothing," she admitted. " What's you and the Hoga. You act like you know him from somewhere."
" He was a classmate of mine in UA. That's all," I said. " Tadashi is a good kid. Not very smart but he can find his ways out of problems. If something happens to him he'll save himself before we can save him."
" Your good teacher."
" Tadashi, we'll be there soon," I thought to myself.
*FLASHBACK*
( Listen to "End of Prologue" by Yutaka Yamada
I saw even more buildings collapse due to the destruction villains were creating.
" I need back up!," I called on my communicator.
I heard a response but there was just static noises.
" Damnit," I mumbled.
It was up to me to see if there were any people left in need of help. I knew this was stupid but I ran to the nearest building that looked on the edge of collapsing. I had to make my moves carefully. It looked as if one pen drop could make this whole building. Suddenly I heard the noise of a little boy crying.
" Hey!," I called. " Where are you? Can you speak?!"
" I-I'm stuck!," the boy's voice cried out.
I walked towards the noise and found a red haired boy on the ground with his left foot stuck under some rocks. I moved all the rubble and picked the crying boy up.
" It'll be okay," whispered in his ear. " A hero's here to help."
Just then, I felt the ground under my feet start to shake. Before I could react the roof of the building started to collapse. I clutched the kid in my hand as I felt something heavy on my back. I knew I probably blacked out after that but when I opened my eyes I saw...Benji on top of me with a big piece of concrete on his back with the medal piercing his torso. I stared at him with shock, my teary eyes questioning how he got here so fast. He stared into my eyes and uttered the last words I heard from him.
" I'm here now..."
What like an hour later, heroes had removed the rubble and Beji's body fell limp on me.
Benji was confirmed dead a day later but that wasn't the case three years later. He showed up in my first year of pro hero life.
" How's pro hero life treating you, Minato?," were the first words he said to me.
*PRESENT DAY*
Why the hell were these memories coming back to me NOW?! More tears started to stream down my face while I uselessly tried to wipe them off of my face.
