It had been a month since Tadashi had been confirmed missing. Without him the class was more quiet than usual. Hijiri hasn't even fussed about a single thing. I could hear Sachi crying every night but I wasn't sad. Not one bit, because I knew he would come back safely. I layed on my bed in my room staring up at the ceiling. My heart has been jumpy lately. Ever since Nori slapped me in the hospital I felt hot around her.
I stood up and looked at my face in the mirror. I had a scar across my nose that I kept covered with a bandage. Almost the whole day I was supposed to keep gauze on my arms from shoulder to fingers and if not gauze then arm compressions. My eyes stayed the same way they were in the hospital except the sclera had faded back to white. I wondered if my new appearance changed the way my friends...no, Nori, thought about me.
What I really thought about was Ryu and the issues in my family. I felt the urge to knock on Mr. Miyoga's door. It was only six o' clock PM so he should be wide awake. I knocked on his office door.
" What?," he asked as he creaked open his door.
" Uhh, I just wanted to go talk to my parents about something," I said. " Is it ok if I go? I'll be back before ten o' clock."
" Specifically for you you're not allowed to go alone," he informed. " But, if it's that important then I'll take you."
" Thanks!," I said.
Mr. Miyoga was walking me home and decided to start a conversation.
" How're you feeling?," he questioned. " I know a lot's been in your head lately so now's the right time to talk."
" To be honest...I've been thinking alot about Ryu," I admitted. " I can tell that I'm alot like him in a way that just doesn't make sense to me. H-He used that drug on me and suddenly this quirk of mine showed up. I could tell that that was less than half of what I'm able to do." I began to grow more quiet. " Though, I don't think this quirk is safe enough for the world. What if I use it and end up hurting an innocent person?"
Mr. Miyoga sighed. " You know, I have a brother. When he was in elementary school and I was in middle school he would get judged for having such a freaky and scary quirk. When he ate living things strength would build up in his body. Yeah...the nature of his quirk affected the way he looked at any living being, even humans. He would sometimes lose control. You can think of him like a vampire. He said that he hated his quirk and it would do no good with being a hero. He said he wished he never had it, then he said he wished he was never born. Later on he thought differently, I helped him learn how to control his feelings when his quirks nature tried to take over. Look at him now. He's a pro hero and runs his own training camp throughout the year!"
" Are you saying that you can help me control the quirk and my feelings?," I perked.
" Uhm I didn't specifically say I could teach you that but I didn't really have the same problem when using my quirk. I just wanted to be alone at night when I was younger. My brother is taking some time off of teaching. Even if he is a bit freaky sometimes he is an amazing teacher." Mr. Miyoga laughed. " I wouldn't say better than me though."
" Thanks Mr. Miyoga."
" No Problem, kid." He ruffled my hair.
I saw three figures walking alongside the sidewalk in front of me.
" Mom, Dad, Asahi!," I called.
Asahi turned around, let go of my mothers hand and ran after me. " Daiki!," he called out my name in delight.
" Daiki? What are y-." There was a loud bang sound and my father's face filled with shock.
I was too shocked and slow to react. A bullet had hit him in the right side of his chest and he fell back. BANG! There was another gunshot and this time I tried to run. I saw everything in slow motion and I was an inch away and a second too late. I felt the side of the bullet sting my skin as it just barely touched me. I saw in horror as the bullet hit my mother straight in the chest making her fall back. I looked to where I saw the bullet coming from and there was a figure with a mask and hand-gun in his right hand.
I expected myself to move but I didn't. Mr. Miyoga was silent and still. I dropped to my knees and stared at my parents' limp bodies. I could see my dad's eyes flinching but my mom didn't make any sudden movements. I saw the blue in my dad's eyes start to grow pale until they were glassy. No last words came out of his mouth. A stream of endless tears came out of my eyes. My mouth was open to scream out but no sound came.
"Shit!Shit!Shit!," I repeatedly said.
I broke out into an angry sob. The truth was I knew this would happen but I didn't think too hard about it. Now it happened. More cold-blooded than it should've happened. Damn! I gripped the hair on my head.
" W-we need assistance immediately...," I heard Mr. Miyoga say. " Two people have been shot."
I heard Asahi start to cry a storm.
[ Two Hours Later]
I arrived back at the dorms with Asahi and Mr. Miyoga.
" You got back, Daiki!," Yuu said. " Where were you?"
" Hi," I said quietly.
" You good man?," Kenji questioned.
" Everyone go to bed," Mr. Miyoga ordered. " You should be asleep."
" It's only eight thirty," Yuu pointed at the time.
" Fine, just keep it down. And don't cuss up a storm please, Sato."
Mr. Miyoga left.
" M-Mama and P-papa are going to be ok, r-right?," Asahi sniffed as he tugged at my shirt.
I dropped onto my knees and put my hand on my head. My eyes started to get blurry from the tears that formed.
I saw my classmates run up to me. Akito bent down in front of me.
" What's wrong?," he asked.
" I-I c-couldn't do anything," I croaked. " I just...st-stood there and watched them die in front of me!"
" S-so it was true...?," Hijiri mumbled.
" So that's what this is about...D-Daiki if you want to talk about it we're here," Nori comforted. " And look, Tadashi's back!"
I saw Tadashi stand up from his seat on the couch. " What's wrong with Daiki?"
I stood up and walked towards him. I stared into his eyes for a while and did something that I should've avoided doing at the moment. I slapped him on the face.
" Ow-I-what type of greeting is that?!," he exclaimed.
" T-that's for d-disappearing like t-that!," I broke down into a sob and hugged him.
[ Two Hours Later]
Trying to fall asleep seemed impossible at this point. Everytime I did fall asleep I saw the same vision of my parents dying and woke up with heavy breathing. My eyes were bloodshot red and puffy from crying. I felt someone knock on my door and when I opened it Nori hugged me. Once she let go my body felt light.
" Daiki...I just want to let you know that I'll always be there whenever you need me," she told me.
I stayed quiet for a bit but then something came to my mind. I realized that if I kept hiding it I would have even more to cope with. If I let this out I would probably feel much better.
I closed my room door.
" You remember when you told me that the person you liked had black hair with another color in it and blue eyes?," I questioned, my voice still sounding different from crying.
" What about it?," she asked.
" Well...I've been starting to get ideas of who it was," I informed. " Though you never described their personality. All you said was that he was a loyal friend."
" And he is, even though he's been having problems lately I can tell he's trying his best to stay happy."
" So it's Tadashi...you just meant to say he has dark gray eyes instead of blue, right?," I lightly joked. " If it's not him then I don't know who it is!"
" You see," Nori pointed out. " Right now you're doing your best to stay happy. That's the amazing thing about you. You're joyful, creative, strong, and sometimes funny even if your jokes are always cheesy."
" Hey!" I rubbed the back of my head in shame. " They're not that bad. The chicken one was actually funny!"
" It really wasn't; that's why I laughed."
" You know what's funny," I mentioned.
" What?," Nori questioned.
" Right now you named so many positive things about myself that I've never thought about. You also just confessed without even realising you did...at least it seems like you haven't realised it yet. Though, I have a question. Why is your last name Uraraka if your dad is Deku? His name is Izuku Midoriya. Not like I have a problem with that or anything. I'm just curious."
" I-...my dad did it so villains wouldn't suspect that his kids were actually his kids, if that sums everything," Nori replied.
" Well Nori Uraraka. I'm not saying this by accident." I sighed and took a deep breath. " You are also an amazing friend. I wish I could've told you this sooner but I feel like if I don't get to tell you later." I saw Nori start to lightly blush.
I shut my eyes tight. " IreallydolikeyouNori! Not just as a friend. More than that, way more than that!"
I felt my heart start to race.
Nori was silent. I turned around and covered my face in embarrassment.
" I'm sorry," I said, my voice muffled in my bed sheets. " I'm such an idiot. To possibly think that things would go smoothly if I hurried up with it. Idiot! Idiot! Idiot!" I removed my face and looked into Nori's eyes.
" Where were we?," I asked as if I said absolutely nothing under my covers.
Nori laughed and so did I. I stared into her green eyes. They were extra pretty tonight...without thinking I kissed her. After maybe thirty seconds I broke the kiss and looked back at her. Her face almost looked like a tomato.
" I...I thought I would be the one getting this flustered," I said.
" Shut up!," she snapped.
I laughed. " Just to be clear, does this mean that you like me too?"
Nori hesitated but without looking at me she said, " I guess so."
" E-even if I've dealt with so many upsetting things lately and I've even w-witnessed death today I plan on keeping my smile no matter what. I can't lose my spirit. If I lose my spirit I'll never be able to defeat villains because they'll still have there's I can't lose my will for living before they do," I spoke. " If I do I can end up just like my brother...maybe even worse. But even if I do I'll be moving even if all my bones are broken!"
" You're like a combination of every person in this class," Nori muttered. " It can be annoying sometimes but that's still what I absolutely love about you."
" I love you too...," I whispered.
I felt much better that night especially after letting the truth out. Mr. Miyoga sadly broke the news to me that my parents had passed and my brother was still in a coma so nobody in my family would be able to take care of Asahi in Japan. The good news was that Asahi would be staying in the dorms with me! Life can get hard sometimes. When you get scared and your life starts to slowly go downhill you start to lose your will for living. That's when you let all your negative feelings lose. After letting all of those hideous thoughts out you start to feel distant from others. Once you let your positive feelings out it doesn't matter if you were already a non-social person or if you were a nice, jolly kid like me. You'll start to feel like you belong so I say that you take this advice to heart. Never forget that It's ok to be afraid. Everyone is afraid in life. That shows how much of a strong person you really are!
This might not have been the best way to break the news but I tried my best soooooooooo...Adios and see you soon!
