Chapter 11 A foreign girl

Several days later, Yato took Rex to park near their home. According to Yato, Rex should interact with kids his age.

Rex wanted to refuse since instead of playing with kids, he could read some books but he also wanted to walk outside of his house in the open air. But he knew that Yato's real purpose was something else.

"I have got a bad feeling, dad."

"Nah, you are just nervous. After all, it is your first time outside of the house. I am positive that you will make lots of friends." Yato said with his thumbs up.

They then entered the park. Rex saw many children playing with each other while their moms were chatting between themselves. He knew that this quarter of the area was for rich people. Most of the heroes or retired heroes live here.

"It is so refreshing…" Rex spoke unconsciously.

"Right? Just look at those mo- kids happily playing. Go and try to talk to them. I am near so don't need to worry." Yato said not looking at Rex but busty mothers and ran away.

Rex sighed. He knew that Yato won't ever cheat with his mom since it will be Yato's last day if that will happen.

Rex saw an empty bench away from kids and sat there to rest. He just wanted to enjoy this warm weather alone.

He then felt a pinch on his cheek. He opened his eyes and saw a blond girl poking his cheek and looking at her curiously.

When Rex looked at the girl, she panicked a little and said, "Gomenna sign (I am sorry)" the Girl said with broken Japanese.

"Oh, it's okay. I can understand English." Rex said with a smile. He may didn't get any knowledge but he can speak English well now. Most of the books he read in his home were in English so he understands well.

Girl's eyes shined and spoke, "Really? My name is Melissa Shield. Nice to meet you."

"Rex Kinzoku. Nice to meet you too." Rex said with a smile.

He knew very well who this girl was. She was the daughter of David Shield, professor, and mentor of his brother. Yato and Ryu talked a lot about him and his daughter, especially Yato, and Rex could tell who was this blond girl in front of him. He also knew that David was going to visit Japan a few days ago and Rex's meeting with his daughter couldn't be a coincidence.

"Kinzoku, why are you sleeping here? Are you lost?" Melissa asked innocently.

"Nope. I just like this weather and call me Rex."

"Then Rex, call me Melissa. Japan's weather is really warm and cozy."

"You are from the US?"

"Hoo! How did you know?"

"From your language and accent," Rex said and Melissa nodded with pink cheeks. Rex knew that North Americans have a similar accent. Besides, Rex knew that she was from US California.

They then started to talk about heroes in each other's' country. They even forget to ask for each other's quirk.

"Yato-san, is this a good idea?" David asked Yato putting down binoculars.

"Yes, don't sweat. My kid is strong." Yato said looking at his kid and Melissa happily talking with each other.

"Yato-san, we can forget about that bet," David said looking a little apologetic.

"It's fine, David. I am a man of my word and will never back down. Besides they are only kids, we will tell them when they grew up."

David looked down then said, "My daughter-"

"-is quirkless. I know that." Yato said looking at David. "Whether she has a quirk or not, Rex won't discriminate. Look, David, my older son is quirkless too and both brothers get along well these past few days. Besides, my boys have a thing for blonde girls." Yato said and David nodded with a smile. Yato then took binoculars again and said, "Look, it is time for Rex to show manly strength and protect the girl!"

David smiled and decided to look. He was also curious how was Res was going to deal with bullied kids.

"So you are a fan of All Might?" Rex asked.

"Yesh. I saw him on live TV. He came and smashed rockets with one punch. I have met him a few days ago. He was so big!" Melissa was in fangirl mode and praising All Might.

She also told Rex that when she was 4 years old, All Might came to the US and dealt with some villains in front of her eyes. He also came across another interesting information that David Shield was All Might's former sidekick when All Might was in the US. All Might's many attack names were after many American states with his one of best punch California Smash was named after the state where David and Melissa lived. He knew that All Might has a good background with the US since All Might made his career as a hero there. So her father knew Japanese and also taught some words to her daughter too so that she could understand All Might.

However, Rex was not interested in either of All Might's feats. He found those attacks very childish. Famous heroes like to call names of their attacks but there is no way a sane fighter would call his move to let the opponent know and react in time. Sure All Might was a famous hero and close to Bisha, former 2nd rank hero but after Bisha bashed at him, their relationship was somewhat odd. Even in casual hero discussion, Bisha tries to ignore topics related to All Might or her master.

"So who is your favorite hero?" Melissa asked.

"I don't know much about heroes. For me, my parents are my only heroes." Rex said. Bisha who resigned her Hero position for Rex and Yato who was also supporting him, they were the only one who Rex could consider heroes. There were only a handful of people Rex liked and his parents were two of them.

"So you were talking about All Might?" Their conversation was interrupted by a boy of an average height of 9 years old followed by other two boys of the same age. He was a litter bigger than the other two boys. "Wanna join us? Based on your cool quirk, we will give you a chance to play with us." The boy said arrogantly lighting his hands. The other two boys also showed their quirks.

Melissa looked down and said, "I-I am Quirkless." She said looking down.

Boys first looked at her briefly before bursting into laughter. Melissa was started with tears forming in her eyes.

"Hahaha, you are quirkless and you are talking about All Might!"

"Pfff yeah, and what's with her language? Is she an alien?

"Totally worthless!"

Taunted by boys, Melissa was in tears but it didn't stop bullies from taunting her even more. Rex didn't speak this entire time. He was just looking at this drama with half-open eyes.

'Seriously? Is this cliché really happening to me? Wuxia kids messing with a pretty girl for petty reasons. What is wrong with their brains anyway? Did quirks take away their brains in exchange?' Rex thought. He has read some isekai comics with many being Chinese.

"What is your quirk robot boy?" The boy then asked Rex. Rex still had metallic hands which were also covering his neck and forehead.

"I will tell you what my quirk is," Rex said. He stood up from the bench and walked towards the boss of the gang. Rex was only 104 cm while the boss kid was almost 140 cm.

Rex took a battle instance and gave a light jab to the boss kid making the kid bent on his knees. The other two boys were also startled and took a step back.

Rex then grabbed his jaw and spoke looking straight into his eyes, "My quirk is called 'Teaching a lesson'. I can beat kids like you who like to bully others for petty reasons related to quirks. I don't care what you worthless worms think about others but right now you are going to apologize to her." Rex said with a little bit of pressure putting at kids.

"Rex…" Melissa was happy that someone is standing for a quirkless person like her.

Rex then put some nanites in his throat and said in a heavy voice, "I can't hear you guys. I sAiD ApOlOgIsE tO HeR NOW!!"

'A 'D rank' ability? Noice.'

"Eeek I-I am sorry… I am SORRY…" All the boys were scared and hurriedly apologized to Melissa and ran away crying.

If he was really a kid mentally, he would have already run away from bullies. There was no way he would get his ass kicked from those bullies who were twice as big as him but now he has the strength to stand for others so he wouldn't mind putting a show. He wouldn't care less if it was someone else who always gets bullied and didn't even try to defend but Melissa was a foreigner and a pretty girl too, there is no way he will be sending Melissa away that Japan is a country where people gets discriminated and no one stands for them.

Rex then waved his hand to one side where Yato and David were spying for them. He had already spotted them when he was talking to Melissa but now he wanted to go home.

Rex felt a soft pinch on his sleeve and saw Melissa smiling with teary eyes. "T-thank you, Rex…"

Rex smiled and wiped her tears. "No problem. Aren't these friends for?" Rex decided to use a little bit of Naruto lines he knew.

"We are f-friends…?"

"Yeah, why do you think we are here chatting for? Sure we are friends from now. Let's go before their moms get here." Rex held Melissa's hands and run away.

Melissa nodded and decided to go with Rex. All the time she was looking at the back of Rex with her rosy cheeks. Rex was the first person at her age who didn't look down on her for her lack of quirk. She felt a warm feeling in her heart which she only felt for her father and All Might.
