My Family's Wanwan Is A Top Star Director

~Excerpt~ She looked at him. Her gaze was resolute. "Let's date, Tinghao." The office was quiet. A cold breeze blew into the room and it sent shivers down Fu Tinghao's spine. He reached out to button the top buttons back. He couldn't believe his ears. For a moment, he feared he had heard the wrong thing. He lifted his head and he looked at her. She was looking at him quietly as though waiting for him to speak. He couldn't help but shake his head and laughed dryly. But, there was a lack of humor in his voice.  "Tang Wan, it's not April Fools Day. Can you stop pulling my leg?"[1] Tang Wan was speechless. She looked carefully at him and realized that he didn't seem to be kidding. He really didn't believe her words.  She pursed her lips and repeated, "I mean it. Let's date." Then, she stressed, as though to make her words more believable. "I love you." Fu Tinghao was stunned. He stared at her in a daze. It was then he felt the urgency in her words. He could sense the sincerity in those words. She said she loved him. He was unable to react, trying to comprehend her words. He felt a surge of happiness invade him. It was as though he was in the clouds. But on the surface, he was calm and his head was lowered. After some time, he looked up at her and gave a small chuckle, "Tang Wan, why do you like playing around like this? Just yesterday, you said you couldn't love anyone. I already accepted my fate that my love will forever be one-sided. But now, you are telling me you love me?" Tang Wan lowered her head as embarrassment sunk in. He was right. She had been unresponsive to his advances for a long time. And suddenly, she confessed to him. Anyone would feel doubtful. She opened her mouth to talk but he didn't let her… He cut in. "I don't love you anymore though." Tang Wan looked at him. He was staring at her seriously. His eyes were fixated on her and he seemed to be deadly serious. Of course, she had no idea he was only playing hard to get. Her heart skipped a beat. As his words sunk in, she felt a surge of panic. Her chest tightened as though there was a hand squeezing it. It was extremely uncomfortable.  Was this how he felt all this while? No, she could not accept this outcome. "Fu Tinghao…" He looked at her. "I can't accept your love." Then, he picked up the light switch remote and clicked on it. The light immediately came on and the surroundings brightened.  He then turned to the documents on the desk. He picked the blue fountain pen in the pen holder and stated, "I got to work." He lowered his head and began to write seriously. He didn't look at her anymore. Tang Wan was unable to move as she looked at that handsome face. She felt a strong sense of panic she had not felt in a long time. She didn't know what suddenly got into her. But, she rushed towards him and grabbed him by the collar. Then, she grabbed his chin and lifted his face up to look at her. She could vaguely see traces of emotions in his eyes too. But, she couldn't dwell on that anymore. She lowered her lips to his. She kissed him.  *** Tang Wan, the beautiful daughter of the Tang family suddenly went insane after her parents deaths. What Have You Two Done?

About an hour later, the family of three sat down around the dining table. There were several dishes and side dishes lined on the table, taking over half of the table.

Yan Shu was sitting at the head of the table while Zi Mei and Yan Jing sit at both sides of the table. Two maids stood by the side serving the food.

The scene looked quite harmonious and peaceful. But, Yan Jing was facing an inner turmoil.

He was scared of causing a rift between his parents by asking too much. After all, he knew his mother would have to take the blame if his father were to get angry.

But, he feared that Tang Wan had been hurt in some way.

So whilst the maid served the food, he was lost in thought. After the maid finished serving, Yan Shu and Zi Mei began to eat.

But, Yan Jing didn't immediately pick up his cutlery. He was still deliberating on what to do.

When Zi Mei noticed this, she lifted her hand and poked him with a finger. Yan Jing jolted lightly and looked at her, before realizing that he was lost in thought and immediately picked up his cutlery.

He relaxed and tried to act casually lest they noticed he had suspected something. But regardless of how he tried to pretend, he was still worried.

He couldn't even eat well and this showed in how slow he was picking food. It was so obvious that even Yan Shu finally caught up to him.

Realizing what was troubling him, Yan Shu was immediately furious. He slammed his fork on the table.

"What exactly are you thinking of? If you're going to eat, then eat. If you're not, then scram!"

He yelled, scaring everyone into silence. Even the servants working around the house hurriedly retreated into the background to avoid being noticed.

His voice was so loud that it reverberated in the quiet hall. The table shook from the impact of the way he slapped it and the glasses of wine nearly fell.

Yan Jing's grip on his fork shook and he was obviously affected but he didn't cower. He could see that his mother was also calm but she was looking at him with worry in her gaze.

Yan Jing pursed his lips, a thought surfacing in his mind: He had to get to the bottom of the matter.

So, he placed his fork on the table and cleaned his lips. Then, he sat up and looked at Yan Shu.

"I want to see Sister Wan. Where is she?" he said, word for word. His gaze was fixed on Yan Shu's and no matter how dark the latter's gaze was, he didn't cower.

Since he had taken the first step, then, he had to go all the way.

Yan Shu's gaze flickered and his anger level only rose with Yan Jing's calm expression. He hadn't expected his son to go against him because of Tang Wan.

Since he was guilty, he was very sensitive to people's comments about Tang Wan. So no matter who it was, as long as that person mentioned her, he would feel that they were deliberately mocking and going against him.

Anger took over him and he yelled at Yan Jing without a care in the world. "Tang Wan this, Tang Wan that. What has that useless girl done to you? You keep asking about her as though she's your mother."

"But Sister Wan is my cousin." Yan Jing immediately rebutted. "I have every right to be worried about her."

Yan Shu scoffed. He folded his arms obviously pleased with himself. Then, he snorted derisively, "Well, your worry is about to be wasted because she'll never get better again. She'll be mad for the rest of her life."

Yan Jing's mouth fell open. It was as though he couldn't believe such cruel words were coming out of his father's mouth.

From the corner of his eyes, he could see his mother forgetting and panicking. She wanted to interfere but wasn't given the chance to because Yan Jing stood up from the chair and looked at Yan Shu.

"What do you mean by that? Didn't you say she's already receiving treatment?"

Then, he looked at Zi Mei. "Mom, you told me to finish my exams first before I come to check on her. You promised you were going to take care of her!"

Zi Mei was immediately confronted by his stare on her and she sat rooted on her seat, unable to say a word. She couldn't bear to make him even angry than he was.

This was Zi Mei's weakness. No matter how scheming or cruel she was, her greatest weakness was her son. And the only pure feelings she had was the motherly affection towards him.

So, she couldn't bear to see the disappointed gaze that he directed at her.

When Yan Jing saw how quiet she was, he knew it was a tacit agreement. He knew she would have refuted him if he was wrong.

At that moment, a huge wave of disappointment crashed into him and he felt a pang of sorrow in him.

But how much his disappointment was, was how strengthened he was. So, he didn't step back and continued his interrogation.

At that moment, he wasn't just a teenager. He was a young man stepping into the world of adults.

His gaze was sharp and his words were straightforward. "What have you two done?"
