"Paul if you love me to that extent then please come back home. Just do this for me, for once son. I am very sorry for sending you away in another country for the sake of education, Please son I am begging you," she was almost crying.
"Mum you don't have to beg me because I will always listen and do what you want me to do, but...
"So are you coming back? I knew that you will always listen to me my son. I am very happy," Mrs Wechuli said with happiness not knowing that she had cut her son off before he finishes talking.
"Mum, I was not done talking. What I mean is, what you are asking me to do now is impossible. You will have to agree with me mum, I am not done with my course and I won't drop out of college just because I want to please you. So it's either you wait for my remaining four years to be done or you take Ivana to take over that position for time being," Paul said with finality.
"No Paul please, you know very well that Mr Mukhongo was the chairman, he is Ivana's uncle so Ivana is not suitable for me," she said
"Mum I am not understanding you, what does them being relative have to do with the chairmanship of the company?" Paul asked.
"Because Mr Mukhongo can use her to get back to me you know! Oh shit!" She exclaimed after realizing that she had said something she was not supposed to have said.
"Why? I thought your were good friends what happened? Is there something that happened between you two? Tell me the truth mum," Paul's asked with his heart plumbing faster.
"No, son the thing is Mr Mukhongo was arrested today with the police for the murder of his wife. So I am thinking that he might drag me into his predicament that's why I don't want to be involved in anything to do with him," She exclaimed.
"What? is he just being accused or it's something that he did?" Paul asked.
"I really don't know, we were in the company busy with our daily duties when the police came for him. So I have no idea if he did that or not," she replied.
"He is your friend if I remember correctly he is close to you and you are very close to him more than you are to me," Paul chuckled nervously for what he had said . He knew that his mother might understand him wrongly and think otherwise. "Mum what I mean is, you are good friends and good friends should know what it's going on in other friends life."
"Hahaaa, she chuckled nervously too, she was scared that maybe Paul have already known about their affair. "You are right son, we are good friends but you know he doesn't like disclosure to me. Since the death of his wife Elizabeth he have been distancing himself from me," Mrs Wechuli explained.
"You should have enquired about him maybe he had developed into depression that's why he distanced,"He chuckled. Anyway mum I don't want to get involved in your friendship that much. I have to go and read, I have an examination tomorrow," Paul said.
"All the best son,but you don't have to write that examination. It's useless it not going to help you son," she said.
"Who said so mum?, I am not coming it's upto you mum to run the company the way you want. I will be back when I am done with my course."
Mrs Wechuli was surprised that Paul didn't agree to what she had said. She was quite for a moment waiting for Paul to add on something but he didn't. So she decided to end up the call with a long face.
She have failed to convince her son, she was dispointed in herself. She was worried that everything she was struggling for him will just go to waste. She wished that Paul was a lady because ladies were easy to be manipulated.
She walked to where her wine was, poured herself a good quantity and started to drink to reduce the stress.
After Mrs Wechuli have hunged up Paul didn't know what to do next, he left the bedroom and went to check on Mike who was still studying. He have been on call with his mother for almost an hour.
"Hey mehn you are still studying?" Paul asked.
"No I am eating! Hahaaa what are you seeing that I am doing," Mike replied jokingly. He turned and looked at Paul as he asked, "Was Something wrong or you slept after talking to your mum?"
"You won't believe what mum was suggesting that I should do. Imagine she wants me to drop out of school and go take over the chairman ship position in the company,"Paul replied.
"What? Why? Like what happened for the seat to be vacant?" Mike enquired giving him his full attention.
"I don't know the full story yet, mum just told me that the chairman have been arrested today with the police," he said.
"What was your reply? You can go home atleast. You were worried about the exam now your have an escape," Mike said
"Are you serious right now? I won't drop out of school for the position I have no idea about. Infact she was the one who suggested that I come here to study Film so that I will be fit to run the company when she leaves it in my hands."
"Woow for the first time, you reasoned on your own. I guess being away from your mother will help you stop being a Mama's boy."
"You are crazy I am not a Mama's boy, so stop reffering to me as one," Paul groused.
