CHAPTER 153:ARENT YOU THE OWNER
Paul left Mike's place as he drove to his Logistics Company. When he arrived the workers were standing outside in small groups probably gossiping. He knew right away that the employees have already gotten the notice of the logistic company being on sale.
He stepped out of the car and walked hurriedly in his office. He had his own private elevator so it was not hard for him. When he arrived in the office he found his mother seated and confirming with the Auditor in general of the company's finances.
"Mum, what happened why are the employees in the small kamkunjis outside?" He asked as he walked into the office.
"Son, you already here?thank you so much I was started overwhelmed with the employees questions."
"Have you produced the notice to show them that the company is going to be under new management in two weeks time?"
"No I just called a meeting that lasted less than ten minutes. I already told them they need to start applying for jobs at other companies"Mrs Wechuli said.
"Hey will you please excuse us for some thirty minutes. I want to talk to my son privately" Mrs Wechuli said to the auditor general who was still sitting in office with numerous financial statements. He left with his laptop.
"Mum in business we don't do like that, when you want to sale the company you communicate through notice one month prior to it's sale. If you have told them a word of mouth then that's the reason why the employees are standing in groups probably discussing how they will sue us!" Paul enlighten her with a vexed tone.
"They won't do that you hear me, it's my company and i.do.with it whatever I want."Mrs Wechuli said arrogantly.
"I am afraid mu, it doest work like that because you will be breaching the contract between the employees and the employer. Don't be surprised if they sue you, you will be required to compensate them if that happens. Don't be surprised when you remain with nothing after selling it." Paul notified her.
Mrs wechuli was tranquil as for a short moment before she sighed experatedly then asked,"What do we do now? I really want this money to develop Luhyahood dream company"
"I will call another meeting and try explaining to them that they will stay in the company until the end of this month. I think with that their will be no breaching of contract." Paul said as he walked outside looking for his secretary.
Unfortunately the secretary was no where to be seen. He dialed his number an fortunately for him, he picked up.
"Hello boss.
"Kindly will you assemble all the employees in the boardroom. I want to have a short meeting with you in the next five minutes."
"Right away boss."
The secretary managed to assemble the employees although with difficult. Some were complaining how the owner of the company have been exploiting them. How their contract have been breached. This is all bevause of Mrs Wechuli's arrogance.
So after five minutes Paul walked into the board room. The employees were already seated but still clomouring about the whole thing of the company being under new management.
"Good afternoon,"Paul greeted them although he was scared but he managed to be Courageous.
"Good afternoon boss" Some of the employees answered him.
Paul cleared his throat then said, "I am really sorry how my mother talked to you guys in the morning. Forgive her because she doesn't understand business like I do. Actually I am not ready to breach contract with you people. You will still work here until the end of this month. I think that's when you will be required to leave the company. You will be paid the whole salary. Is that okay with you?" Paul explained to them in details.
One of the employees raised her hand and asked, "Boss I want to ask you, can't we stay and work under the new management?"
"I don't think if that will be possible, you will have to apply for the job position you want again"
"Sir why all over sudden you want to sell the company? Is there something you are not telling us?" She asked from behind the room.
That voice was so familiar to his eyes. He was even wondering where she was, but when she asked the question without raising her hand. Paul knew exactly that she is the one. Slyvia is the one who have asked that question.
"Okay slyvia you are a new employee here, but it's fine. Some three months ago the company was not doing well. Some traders have started trusting other Logistics Company more than us. So since that time we never regained our position in the market. That's why the owner wants to sell it" Paul explained to everyone in the room vividly.
"Aren't you the owner boss?"Slyvia asked again.
"Mmh,hahaaa, Paul chuckled nervously before saying. "I am not the owner slyvia I was only an employee here as your boss not the owner. The owner is Mrs Wechuli Carol"
"That's makes you your owner because she is your mother." Slyvia added again making the room so silent as the employees turned and looked at her while others looked at Paul.
Paul was abit embarassed as he looked down and away. He was embarassed because he thought that the employees will see him as a liar.
"I think Miss Slyvia this is becoming abit personal. But as I said I don't want to waste your time guys. You will be paid full salary at the end of this month, then after that you can start applying for jobs in other companies. Thank you for your cooperation" Paul said as he walked out of the boardroom.
He took his private elevator back to his office. He found his mother still in the office. He told his mother what he had told the employees to avoid them sueing her for the breach of contract.
"What have you done, Paul? If we pay them their salary at the end of this month. Then I will be left with less money, that can't help me. I had told them that their will be no salary for this month and the early they leave the company the better."
"Trust me mum, with that be sure of being taken to court for breach of contract"
