Wasn't the empress's name too similar to Tina's? She couldn't be related to the ruler, could she?
Alex's real name was also strange, but it now made more sense. Val'Terian - Valther was an alliteration of the elven name. He was curious about why they didn't use it, but Alex had a suspicion about denying their families. Get away from their influence in his previous life.
With time, Alex was becoming increasingly accustomed to being called Valther, and Val'Terian was an excellent improvement.
When someone called Valther, he didn't think strange anymore, and when asked his name, he would shoot Valther without overthinking it. Still, he had been Alex for two decades, and ignoring that was impossible.
