Chapter 43: I did nothing

He looked up at her with his dry face.

" Why did you sleep here ?" He asked in a soft murmur.

Myra knew that he is angry because of this.

" I am sorry if it annoys you. I had to take care of the whole night so…."

" You don't have to take care of me." Leo stopped her talking midway.

" Leo, You are so ill. This is not time to talk about this…I know you think I am pretending again" she said because she was used to his words.

" It's not about that. I caused you into this trouble so I must protect you. " He said surprising her by a positive response for the first time.

" If you are going to take care of me, Then take care of yourself too." He concluded.

This put a smile on Myra's face and she said. " I am so glad you are awake. Now I will go and get your medicine." She said and left the small room.

Leo remained there lying on the bed because he didn't have the energy to even get up.

"Greetings Doctor" She said with a smile.

" Good morning, How is he ?" Kevin asked.

" he's awake now. But he can't get up .." Said Myra.

Kevin sighed and said. " It won't be easy for him."

They were still like that when Micheal and Agnes came.

" Good morning" They all said

" Good morning." Myra responded.

" We came to check on the patient. How is he ?" Agnes asked cheerfully.

" He's now conscious." Said Myra.

" That's good to hear, Can we go and check on him ?" Micheal asked.

Myra looked at Kevin for approval.

" Of course." Kevin said and they went to the room where Leo lied. Myra walked after them and stood behind.

" Hello…" Agnes said politely and when Leo heard he turned slowly to face them.

" You are…?" He asked trying to get up but Micheal went and pulled him back to the bed.

" You don't have to get up. We are the ones who found you at the shore yesterday." Micheal spoke.

" Ohh, Thank you all." Said Leo.

" We actually to pick you up. Doctor Kevin said he wouldn't keep you for long." Said Agnes.

" But he can't even walk. How shall we take him ?" Micheal asked.

" Doctor Kevin will give us one more day. He promised to give him better treatment first." Spoke Myra.

Agnes smiled and looked at Leo.

" Actuall we didn't get a chance to observe the two of you since it was dark. You are a beautiful couple…" Agnes spoke making both Leo and Myra to swallow hard.

" Indeed, Are you two married or still in courtship ?" Micheal made the things worse.

" We are not married. We are actually…" Myra was still raking when Leo stopped her.

" Just engaged…" He completed the sentence for her.

Myra was surprised by his words but she kept quite and joined the lie.

" Yeah, We just got engaged." She said.

" Then what happened ? How did you two end up here ?" Agnes inquired.

" We ran into some bad guys." Myra answered.

" Leo, You should be great full to have such a beautiful and caring wife. She was so worried yesterday and she kept on calling for help even when she wasn't seeing anyone. If it wasn't for her I don't know what would have happened to you" Agnes said.

Myra kept silent and looked down as Agnes said this.

" Good enough we found you there in time. I and Micheal have to go to the market. We shall come to check on you later in the evening.." Agnes said as they got up to leave.

" Thank you for the visit." Myra said to them as she escorted them to the door.

After that she went to him and said.

" Doctor Kevin said wev' can leave once your treatment kit is sent ." She said and turned to leave when Leo spoke.

" Myra…" He called her name and she turned to look at him. His voice was still soft and weak.

" Thank you for saving my life" Myra thought she was wrong about what she just heard. Leo had never thanked her for anything since day first nor had he talked to her politely.

" I did nothing…" She said genuinely. " You have saved my life very many times. I couldn't let you die just like that." After saying this she left the room.

Myra made herself busy with helping Kevin and the other few patients until the items they had sent for came and Leo had his final treatment. It was after that in the evening when Myra went to check on him.

Monday W6

He had slept off again and it took him the whole night until he woke up the following day.

When he opened his eyes he felt much better and he didn't feel the pain from his wound again.

He tried to get and this time round he was able to sit on the bed. He felt stronger even though his face was still dry and pale. Slowly he put on the slippers and walked out of the room carefully.

Kevin was just from the opposite room when he found Leo at the door way.

" You are finally out ?" Kevin asked.

" mm..I am feeling much better " Leo answered.

" That's good to hear. Once your wife returns you will both have leave." Kevin informed him.

" I know. I actually came to thank you for everything." Said Leo politely.

Kevin smiled and touched his shoulder. " You don't have to thank me. You must be hungry, How about you come and join us for breakfast?" Kevin changed the topic.

" Mmm.." Leo nodded and went to Kevin's main room where they sat down.

Leo looked around and didn't see Myra.

" Where is Myra ?" He asked Kevin.

" She went to the market with the other girls.." Said Kevin.

" Isn't the market far from here ?" Leo asked.

" Not really. Are you worried about her ?" Kevin asked.

" I am just not secure if the men stopped looking for her. In case she gets into them she will be in trouble." Leo said.

" You don't have to worry about that. This Island only has one inlet and outlet. We could probably know new comers here." Kevin said.

" That's a relief." Leo sighed as he begun to eat.
