Chapter six

Its Nick's funeral today, Erica is standing far behind the crowd still unable to comprehend everything that is happening around her. The priest is presenting a sermon on how God takes whom he favors first, it's supposed to encourage them I think but she is far from being encouraged. She missed class for one week crying and praying for Nick, she was unable to divert her attention from the fact that he was murdered by someone. Who would do this? Nick was a generous, friendly and down to earth person who would want to kill? She senses the sermon is about to end and the burial service is about to begin and she gets closer to bid her last farewell to her lover and best friend. When she starts to think this is actually it, tears started to form in her eyes and she feels as though her heart is going 6 feet underneath with Nick. She can't control her tears now, nick has been her everything when she thinks about all the memories they shared she feels as though there is no life for her after this. She feels broken and the one person who can mend her is there in a casket unable to move, breathe or live. She is aching all over and crying for the beautiful she lost without knowing. She regrets not coming to terms with him that night they fought she wished she at least said she loved him, kissed him or hugged him. Oh if she knew he was leaving her this soon the things she would have done, but it's already too late. He is gone. Erica is now on her knees muttering Nick's name and saying sorry. She wanted to scream her lungs out but her voice is failing her. Instead she cries nonstop.

After the funeral was over and she visited Nick's house and his parents which was extremely hard for her to see such strong parents this broken, they were unable to say anything to anyone but when they saw her they broke down. Especially his mom she couldn't hold back her tears. She knew about Erica and loved her too. They embraced and cried and talked for a bit. After that she met his brother, she was surprised to see he was a decent man when he tries. Now she is walking to her own house, it's not that far from Nick's. She is wondering how she can continue living after all this. She knows her parents were waiting for the funeral to take place until they could convince her to move on and live her life. She heard them once talking about a therapist that could help her move on. But Erica doesn't need any of that; she just wants Nick back which is totally impossible now. What can she do to ease her guilt, what is there to do to bring back her life on track. How can she move on without him? While contemplating that she arrives at home. As she expected her parents are waiting for her in the dining room in the table ready to talk to her but she surprises them by uttering what they did not expect. She told them that she has set her life on finding Nick's murderer and there is nothing they could do to convince her otherwise.
