Chapter Five
"Darren? Darren? Hello?" Charlotte keeps saying in to the phone but there is no answer, what has happened? Oh he must be passed out after drinking so much. No surprise there when did he ever care, it's my fault to expect decent response from him. He must have called back drunk. Benjamin was out to get some coffee when he comes back she decided not to tell him what happened and just kept on silently crying and that her son would soon get out of the surgery safe and sound.

After 10 hours of surgery, Nick is out of surgery barely alive and his parents heard the news as soon as he got out. They were just happy that he is hanging on and made it out alive. The doctors informed that there is nothing to be sure about but it's a good sign there weren't any complications in surgery. He was then transferred to the ICU to keep a close eye on him with a promise to his parents if he makes it in the following 2-3 days he will be transferred to the ward. Charlotte couldn't keep her tears from falling down and her husband is holding her tight in his arms whispering everything will be okay, but in his thought he was wandering if it actually will be?

Benjamin dials his older son's phone number hiding in the hospital bathroom to keep his wife from hearing him talk to Darren. He doesn't want to cause her any pain than what she already is feeling. It rings once, twice still no answer. Benjamin thinks it's too early to call him anyway maybe I will call him later and when he is about to hang up he hears a voice from the other end. His friend Cole picks it up and informs Benjamin that Darren was in a car accident, although he is fine now he sustained a mild concussion and is in the hospital it's been a few hours and he is to wake up after a bit. Benjamin is shocked his two sons injured in one day? Is this a coincidence? What is going on? How is he going to tell his wife that their other son was in a car accident and is hurt? She will definitely not be able to handle it. He will have to call Darren after a bit and talk to him and tell him about Nick and he might have to go and get Darren. He checks his watch it's already 5 AM in the morning he might have spent too much time in this toilet and he decides to go back to his wife. He finds charlotte crying on the floor and he runs towards her and picks her up from the floor and before he can ask her what's wrong he notices all the commotion in the ICU the nurses and doctors are all running towards one person, Nick, and the machine next to him keeps on making a high pitched constant sound that is deafening to Nick's parents. They can sense Nick is leaving them but they don't want to see what's happening but they can't look away. They see their beloved son struggling to live the doctors trying to save and it's all so painful to witness. Finally when he announced dead, charlotte lets out a scream and Benjamin is crying alongside her hugging each other trying to wash away all the hurt.
Nick's doctor approach them and delivers the hard truth that Nick is no longer alive that he sustained a post operative Myocardial infarction and it was hard pulling him back with all the injuries he sustained and the surgery he went through. Charlotte has no tears left to cry but she keeps on tugging her chest and saying Nick's name over and over again as if trying to wake him up from a deep sleep.
The doctor leaves and its Benjamin and charlotte all alone now with all the sadness lurking over their heads, Benjamin keeps hugging his wife and is at loss of words and doesn't know what to do to bring their dear loving kid Nick. He just cries with Charlotte in his arms.

When Darren wakes up the sharp pain in his head is still there, all he could think is Nick his brother and that he should be there with him by his side whatever it takes. He gets out of the hospital bed and starts changing his cloth, when Cole walks in he finds Darren ready to leave. "What the hell man, how did you wreck your car like that by yourself? You scared us man" but Darren's thought is with nick and he makes a move to the door, but Cole stops him "What the hell man? Where do you think you are going? The doctors haven't yet discharged you yet." Fuck the doctors he thought and quickly walks to the door without saying anything to his friend. He hails a cab and tells the driver the address of the hospital Nick is staying at and tells him to go fast. He has no time to waste his brother is out there fighting for his life and who knows that guy might come after his parents , the more reason he needs to get there fast.
As soon as he gets to the hospital he gets of the cab and quickly makes a way to the reception and asks where Nick is staying and they tell him the floor and he makes a run for it. But when he got there he sees his parents, him mom has dead look in her eyes and his father is hugging her and crying. He is senses that he is too late and falls on his knees and cries for the first time in years.
