Commendable Milestone - The Priest of the House of Black and White!!!

For a moment, the Ollivanders shop regained its ever-present silence as if the riled-up dust was settling down.

Harry looked at the dark green-eyed girl, her golden-white hair flowing down to her waist. With every passing moment, he felt as if he had returned to the cupboard under the stairs in Dudley's house.

From the things he had heard, and had been forced to listen, it was natural for him to feel so… unnerved in her presence.

It was like introducing a child to the sky, and then also telling him that he would never reach it.

Harry gulped.

Darcie had changed a lot since the accident on her 6th birthday. But her taciturn self persisted throughout the years, enhancing even more because of her ever-growing fame. Only her very close friends enjoyed a casual talk with her now.

Harry Potter wasn't one of those friends, unfortunately.

"Old Ollivander not here?" Hagrid had to speak up again, despite clearly not wanting to. "We need a wand…"

Darcie smiled.

And, at last, the silence shattered.

"He's coming," Darcie told them. "Please sit. I always wanted to meet Mr. Potter, The-Boy-Who-Lived…"

Something in the way the girl said that made the hair on the back of Harry's neck stand up.

"Oh, 'f course!" Hagrid beamed, not picking up on the strangeness between Harry and Darcie. "Yeh two will be in the same year, eh! Pro… bably in the same house?"

Hagrid's probably was so weak that even Harry looked over his shoulder to see if the giant wasn't suffering from some hidden injury.

On the other side, Darcie stayed quiet, refusing to comment on this topic.

Although it was the Ministry that had put Darcie into Hogwarts' 3rd year, to prevent an upheaval in the magical community, Professor Snape had told her to not discuss this matter with anyone.

It was obvious that it was the wish of Albus Dumbledore.

"Do you… work here?" Harry asked, not sure if the children in the wizarding community were allowed to work at such a young age.

"No." Darcie flatly responded.

Harry gulped again.

Suddenly, the sound of rushing footsteps echoed behind Darcie.

Mr. Ollivander noticed the customer and his eyes lit up. "Ah yes," he said. "Yes, yes. I thought I'd be seeing you soon. Harry Potter. You have your mother's eyes. It seems only yesterday she was in here herself, buying her first wand. Ten and a quarter inches long, swishy, made of willow. Nice wand for charm work."

"I will leave you gentlemen alone," Darcie said, going back to the workshop.

"Ah!" Mr. Ollivander smiled. "Did the two of you acquaint yourselves with each other?"

Darcie paused in the middle of the corridor and looked over her shoulder. In the darkness, her poisonous green eyes seemed to shimmer. "Enough for one day," she told Mr. Ollivander before looking at Harry. "See you at Hogwarts… Mr. Potter."

Mr. Ollivander saw the brilliant girl disappearing into the darkness and his lips twitched.

Harry let out a breath, his body relaxing as if an entire sky-worth of burden had slipped off his shoulders.

"Don't mind her," Ollivander told the young Harry. "She can be a bit too much if you don't know her. But I must say… Darcie can…"

Harry had enough of it. Darcie this… Darcie that… Was this Diagon Alley or Darcie Alley?! "Mr. Ollivander," he said, interrupting, "… I am here for my wand."

"Oh, yes, yes," the old wizard nodded his head several times. "Where were we? Yes. Your mother…"

Mr. Ollivander moved closer to Harry. Harry wished he would blink. Those silvery eyes were a bit creepy.

"Your father, on the other hand, favored a mahogany wand. Eleven inches. Pliable. A little more power and excellent for transfiguration. Well, I say your father favored it — it's really the wand that chooses the wizard, of course."

Mr. Ollivander had come so close that he and Harry were almost nose to nose. Harry could see himself reflected in those misty eyes.

"And that's where…" Mr. Ollivander touched the lightning scar on Harry's forehead with a long, white finger.

Mr. Ollivander continued as if the dull-gray notification hadn't shown in his old eyes at all.

"I'm sorry to say I sold the wand that did it," he said softly. "Thirteen-and-a-half inches. Yew. Powerful wand, very powerful, and in the wrong hands…well, if I'd known what that wand was going out into the world to do.…"

He shook his head. "Well, now — Mr. Potter. Let me see." He pulled a long tape measure with silver markings out of his pocket. "Which is your wand arm?"

"Er — well, I'm right-handed," said Harry.

"Hold out your arm. That's it."

Mr. Ollivander, of course, introduced Harry to the basics of the wand, telling them about the cores as he took several measures here and there.

Harry suddenly realized that the tape measure, which was measuring between his nostrils, was doing this on its own.

Mr. Ollivander flitted around the shelves, taking down boxes. "That will do," he said, and the tape measure crumpled into a heap on the floor. "Right then, Mr. Potter. Try this one. Beechwood and Dragon Heartstring. Nine inches. Nice and flexible. just take it and give it a wave."

Harry took the wand and (feeling foolish) waved it around a bit, but the old wizard snatched it out of his hand almost at once.

"Maple and phoenix feather. Seven inches. Quite whippy. Try —"

Harry tried — but he had hardly raised the wand when it, too, got snatched out of his hands.

"No, no — here, ebony and unicorn hair, eight and a half inches, springy. Go on, go on, try it out."

Harry tried. And tried. He had no idea what Mr. Ollivander was waiting for.

The pile of tried wands was mounting higher and higher on the spindly chair, but the more wands Mr. Ollivander pulled from the shelves, the happier he seemed to become.

"Tricky customer, eh? Not to worry, we'll find the perfect match here somewhere — I wonder, now — yes, why not — unusual combination — holly and phoenix feather, eleven inches, nice and supple."

Harry took the wand. He felt a sudden warmth in his fingers. He raised the wand above his head, brought it swishing down through the dusty air and a stream of red and gold sparks shot from the end like a firework, throwing dancing spots of light on to the walls.

Hagrid whooped and clapped and Mr. Ollivander cried, "Oh, bravo! Yes, indeed, oh, very good. Well, well, well…how curious…how very curious…"

He put Harry's wand back into its box and wrapped it in brown paper, still muttering, "Curious…curious… "

"Sorry," said Harry, "but what's curious?"

Mr. Ollivander fixed Harry with his pale stare.

"I remember every wand I've ever sold, Mr. Potter. Every single wand. It so happens that the phoenix whose tail feather is in your wand, gave another feather — just one other. It is very curious indeed that you should be destined for this wand when its brother — why, its brother gave you that scar."

Harry swallowed.

"Yes, thirteen-and-a-half inches. Yew. Curious indeed how these things happen. The wand chooses the wizard, remember…I think we must expect great things from you, Mr. Potter….After all, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named did great things — terrible, yes, but great."

Harry shivered. He wasn't sure he liked Mr. Ollivander too much.

He paid seven gold Galleons for his wand, and Mr. Ollivander bowed them from his shop.

The moment Harry and Hagrid walked out of the Ollivanders, the old wizard's eyes again lit up with the same dull-gray color of notification.

Mr. Ollivander's smiling gaze followed Harry and Hagrid duo as they disappeared into the Diagon Alley.

Slowly, he began stepping back, his body disappearing into the darkness.

From the other side of the corridor, Black walked out of the same darkness and walked to the little bedroom where Ollivander stayed.

Darcie was waiting for him there.

"Did he wake up?" Black asked, playing the part for Darcie's humor.

Darcie rolled her eyes. "After drinking the Sleeping Draught I brewed? Are you kidding me?"

"So… Nothing is impossible, huh?" Black said, smiling. "Can you do it alone?"

Darcie looked at the snoring Ollivander, taking out her Willow Wand, green lightning arcs crackling around it. Before walking in, she looked over her shoulder and said, "Mr. Black, please don't insult me with such statements."

Standing outside the room as Darcie worked upon Ollivander's memory, Black's lips twitched wryly.
