Chapter 94: Setting Out to Slay Demons

After settling the young girl, Tamayo removed her white lab coat-like robe and walked to another room.

"Please, this way!" Tamayo courteously invited Jon.

Jon followed Tamayo into the room. Perhaps due to the lighting, the room had a warmer tone, giving Jon a cozy feeling.

The floor was covered with straw mats, and Tamayo and Yushiro sat kneeling on the floor, a custom of their country where conversations were held sitting on the ground.

However, Jon was not accustomed to this posture, so he simply sat down on his buttocks. Yushiro was quite displeased with this, but Tamayo didn't mind.

"Let's continue our previous discussion." Tamayo said softly, "My basement holds many people who have just been turned into demons by Muzan. They haven't eaten humans yet, so if Muzan dies, these people will become innocent victims!"

"So, I want to develop a drug that can turn demons back into humans. I believe the day when Kibutsuji Muzan is killed will come sooner or later, and I don't want more innocent people to be sacrificed then."

"So, I hope you don't misunderstand. I'm not planning to protect demons. I just want to help those who have been turned into demons by Kibutsuji for no reason and haven't committed any sins yet! For this, we have a request for you!"

"To make the cure, we need to investigate more demon blood. We have two requests. First, please collect blood from the demons with the more blood from Kibutsuji Muzan. The second thing..."

Tamayo paused, deep in thought, then said, "I hope you can accompany us to Hachijo Town."

Jon was taken aback, then asked, "Why should I go there?"

Tamayo replied, "I went there before to find an ingredient, but I was attacked by another demon. That demon's eyes were marked with numbers, so it's certain that it's one of the Twelve Demon Moons!"

Hearing about the Twelve Demon Moons, Jon suddenly became interested, a smirk playing on his lips. He then said eagerly, "Alright, when do we set off?"

Tamayo was somewhat surprised by Jon's reaction, then asked, "Jon-san, may I ask why you are so determined to kill demons?"

"There's no special reason why I'm obsessed with killing demons. It's simply because I want to," Jon stated, his voice echoing in the silence of the room.

Jon's words hung in the air, a chilling declaration that left Tamayo in a state of surprise. His nonchalant demeanor, his casual admission of his obsession with killing demons, it was all so alien to her. She had always known that Jon was different, but this was beyond her wildest imagination.

"Is that so?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper, her eyes searching his for any sign of deceit. "You kill not out of necessity, not out of revenge, but out of... desire?"

Jon nodded, his gaze never leaving hers. "That's right," he confirmed, his voice steady and unflinching. "Demons have never harmed me. In fact, before I killed my first demon, I had no interaction with them. I kill them simply because I want to. That's also why I didn't join the Demon Slayer Corps. Fundamentally, I'm not one of them."

Tamayo was taken aback by his words. She had always assumed that Jon, like the rest of the Demon Slayer Corps, harbored a deep-seated resentment towards demons. But his words painted a different picture. His motivations were not rooted in personal tragedy or a sense of duty, but in a desire that was almost primal in nature.

"But why?" she asked, her voice filled with confusion. "Why do you want to kill demons?"

Jon's eyes gleamed with a strange light. "Because they are prey," he said simply. "And I am the hunter."

Tamayo felt a chill run down her spine. She had seen that same look in the eyes of demons, a look of hunger and anticipation. It was a look that spoke of a predator stalking its prey, of a hunter closing in for the kill.

"But why didn't you kill that girl?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly. "And why didn't you kill me?"

Jon's gaze softened slightly. "You misunderstand something," he said gently. "I'm not hunting demons, but those souls that are guilty!"

His words echoed in the silence, a stark reminder of the reality of their situation. They were not just dealing with demons, but with souls that had been twisted and corrupted by their own guilt and sins.

"Are you willing to make a deal with the devil to kill Muzan?" Jon asked, his voice low and dangerous. "Although you may not believe it, I am a devil myself. Rather than human flesh, I have a greedy desire for sinful souls, eagerly wanting to punish and judge them, then devour their souls completely."

Tamayo felt another shiver of fear run through her. She had always known from the moment she met Jon that he was different, but this was beyond anything she could have imagined. He was not just a demon slayer, but a devil himself, a creature that fed on the souls of the guilty.

"These sinful souls are delicious food for me," Jon continued, his voice filled with a dark satisfaction. "Muzan's soul, which embodies almost all forms of evil, is cruel, greedy, murderous, psychologically twisted, brutally uncompensated, and rules his subordinates with fear. Such a soul is indeed perfect food for me."

Tamayo felt a wave of revulsion wash over her. The thought of Jon feeding on the souls of the guilty was horrifying, but there was a part of her that couldn't help but feel a sense of relief. If Jon was willing to kill Muzan, then perhaps there was a chance for them after all.

"Haven't you always wanted to send Muzan to hell?" Jon asked, his voice filled with a strange sense of anticipation. "Now there's no need for you to do that, because I will send him there with pleasure."

Although she knew that Jon was a devil, and maybe the next Muzan, but in the end, she had no choice!

"Very well," she said, her voice filled with determination. "I will take my chance!"

Jon and Tamayo left the mansion, while Yushiro stayed behind to watch the house.

After all, the girl who had turned into a demon had just recovered, but she hadn't woken up yet. Anything could happen, so someone had to watch her. Although Yushiro was very reluctant, he didn't dare to defy Tamayo's orders, so he had to stay at home with a sullen face.

As for Tamayo, she needed to go there to collect medicine. She had been attacked by one of the Twelve Demon Moons last time and hadn't been successful in collecting it. This time, she brought Jon along to eliminate the demon and collect the medicine.

"Jon-san, please wait here while I call a car!" Tamayo said softly.

"Are we going by a car? Won't that be slow?" Jon replied.

It was the Taisho era in Japan, and cars had just been introduced to the country. Jon had seen the cars of this world. Apart from looking very old-fashioned, he had only one comment: they were annoyingly slow.

"I'll pay extra to have the driver go faster. We should be able to get there before dawn!" Tamayo replied.

"That's why I said, we should take my car!" Jon said.

"Your... your car?" Tamayo asked in confusion. She didn't know that Jon had a private car.

Jon walked to an open space, put two fingers in his mouth, and whistled.

Immediately, the sound of an engine roared, and a cool black sports car drove from the other side of the street.

And, there was no one in the driver's seat, meaning the sports car drove itself.

Jon then took out a car remote control, pressed a button on it, and the gull-wing doors slowly opened upwards.

Even the composed Tamayo couldn't help but cover her mouth in surprise. The object before her eyes was like a gateway to a new world.

Jon got into the car, then said to the stunned Tamayo, "Please get in."

Tamayo came to her senses, responded, and got into the passenger seat.

"Fasten your seatbelt." Jon closed the door and reminded her.

"Seat what?" Tamayo asked in confusion. Cars of this era obviously didn't have seatbelts.

Jon pulled out the seatbelt to show her, then demonstrated how to wear it. Tamayo followed Jon's movements and fastened her seatbelt.

"What is this for?" Tamayo asked.

"You'll know soon!" Jon said lightly, then started the engine, started the car, and began to accelerate.

Tamayo felt as if her body was about to fly out for a moment. Because Jon drove so fiercely, she felt a bit overwhelmed.

"Jon, actually... there's no need to drive so fast!" Tamayo, struggling against the oncoming wind, said to Jon. The wind was so strong that she could barely open her mouth.

"Ah, sorry." Jon slightly slowed down the car and said, "I'm just used to driving this fast."

Meanwhile, two other people had also arrived at Hachijo Town. Obviously, the news of a demon here was not only known to Tamayo. The Demon Slayer Corps had also found out.

On the quiet, dark path, two figures were walking stealthily.

"It should be here. The place where Kasugai reported to me is here!" Mitsuri said, looking around in the darkness.

At her side was a girl who looked much younger than her, about fourteen years old. In fact, Mitsuri was only a year older than her, but because she had developed so well, she looked much older.

The girl had short black hair with purple tips and wore a haori with a butterfly pattern.

She was Mitsuri's best friend in the Demon Slayer Corps, the future Insect Pillar, Shinobu Kocho. However, the current Shinobu was different from her mainline appearance. The mainline Shinobu was seventeen or eighteen years old and often had a gentle smile on her face. The current Shinobu was somewhat competitive and easily angered, and she rarely smiled.

"Let's move quickly then and kill that demon!" Shinobu said, gripping her short sword.

Mitsuri turned to Shinobu and smiled, "This was originally my solo mission, but you insisted on coming along. Did you have another disagreement with Kanae-san?"

At the mention of this, Shinobu's expression became even more angry, "Hmph, don't mention it! My sister has been feeding me those strange ideas again, and she won't stop talking!"
