Li Xian felt tired after walking for about four hours from early in the morning, seven to eleven in the afternoon. He didn't walk continuously, sensing his legs going a bit crazy. Taking short breaks and returning to Aunty Wang's restaurant to finish his breakfast helped ease the fatigue.
Unbeknownst to him, the amount of food he could eat had increased more than usual. He wanted to continue a bit more but realised that pushing too hard might hinder his ability to go for his daily practice.
As he walked, he contemplated whether to continue practicing the Orion martial techniques. He was already gaining the required experience from the daily missions, and this would continue until the next level.
However, he recalled a note in the technique's introduction, mentioning that the Orion martial technique would serve as the foundation for many other martial techniques. To progress to these extensions, one needed to complete the foundational technique.
With this in mind, Li Xian decided to continue training hard in the Orion martial techniques, even if it meant a slight hindrance to his daily missions.
Upon returning home, Li Xian noticed that Chen Dong and Kang Li had already left for work. After freshening up, he checked his mobile again, hoping for new chat messages. Unfortunately, to his disappointment, there were none.
Li Xian then opened the stats section to review his gains for the day. To his surprise, he had walked twenty kilometers, earning him four points. He decided to add them later, after completing his daily practice session, to assess how his current progress would benefit him.
After preparing his lunch, which he made himself, Li Xian began his research on hotels for his stay in Auckland.
After scouring various websites and comparing prices, his expression couldn't help but darken.
"Even the cheapest one is about two hundred yuan per night. Sigh."
Li Xian sighed with an unappealing smile. The cheapest options didn't include anything extra besides the room.
He also delved into the daily food costs and any potential additional expenses during his stay. After calculating everything, he couldn't help but feel hesitant about going.
A single day's stay might cost him close to 400 yuan, and Li Xian wasn't sure how long he needed to stay. Even if it were just a week, it would amount to around 2800 yuan in expenses, not including the travel cost, which would add another four to five thousand yuan.
If the stay needed an extension until the end of his mission, it could cost him around 25,000 yuan.
With a heavy heart, he checked his bank balance.
'33565.34'
Looking at it, Li Xian couldn't help but feel a pang of despair. If he were to stay there for two months, almost all of his savings would be depleted.
"No! I shouldn't think like this. Even if the entire amount is gone, it's gone. As long as I can gain strength, I'll have a better chance at the mission, and I can earn all this money later."
Li Xian quickly dismissed his irrational feelings and thoughts, realising he was being overly dramatic about money, something that might become trivial to him in the future.
He acknowledged that, although he still needed money at the moment, he should be more determined about what was better for his growth and overall well-being.
Afterward, he continued searching for better prices. To his surprise, he found a hostel that cost only 150 yuan per night. This hostel was located on Howe Street in the Howick suburb of South Auckland.
Li Xian: [ This is Li Xian and I am booking a room in your hostel.]
Without hesitation, he quickly booked it. He even left a message to the owner, as he saw a message option there. Despite his limited proficiency in spoken English, Li Xian found that he could write reasonably well.
Despite not expecting a reply, thinking they wouldn't bother about his message, Li Xian made his way to the park around an hour later, this time for his daily practice of the Orion martial technique. Without much expectation, he assumed his pose and began his practice.
"Come on! I can do this. The target for today is three sets. You can do this, Li Xian."
Encouraging himself before starting the breathing patterns, he made a mistake midway through the set. Surprisingly, instead of feeling unhappy, Li Xian found a bit of joy.
Compared to yesterday's failures, today's mistake seemed negligible. He was confident that he could complete the first set on the next try or the one after.
Another positive aspect was that he found it a bit easier to hold the pose than before. He understood that this improvement was likely due to the increased strength gained from the two points accumulated the day before.
"Let's do it! You can do this."
Encouraging himself once more, Li Xian continued his practice. As expected, he completed the first set without any mistakes. A refreshing feeling washed over him, bringing happiness. But on the second set, he made a mistake again.
"Damn!"
Li Xian cursed but resumed the practice with even more determination, despite the growing protest from the pain sensors in his body.
After considerable effort, Li Xian finished his cultivation for the day, lying on the ground with a satisfied smile.
"Even though I'm done for the entire day, that was pretty good, haha."
Completing three sets, he gained 1.5 exp points from this short session of less than 30 minutes. Reflecting on his daily mission, which took over four hours to earn four points, he realised that this technique was indeed more efficient.
He also felt a bit envious of Luminara and Gromm especially, as according to his calculations, completing the six sets of the first stance would give them the strength of 3 exp points.
The only drawback was that it left the practitioner without enough stamina for further sessions throughout the day.
Just like the previous day, Li Xian stood up and continued his walking journey, even though his legs were begging him for rest.
After walking around 10 more kilometers, Li Xian booked a taxi back to his home. He just prayed that the same taxi driver from before shouldn't come this time, or else it would truly be embarrassing.
Reaching his house, Li Xian couldn't hold on any longer and dropped onto the couch, not even wanting to move to the bedroom. He fell asleep directly, too tired to do anything else.
While he was still sleeping, his mobile went through many notifications. The messages were from the chat group, his buddies, and even the hostel owner whose room he had booked. Unaware of all this, his body was fully engaged in restoring itself from the heavy fatigue.
